i think UK is not Bulgaria or Portugal. They won't vote for someone in another country because he's English

Bulgaria gave 0 to Ivi Adamou who is half Bulgarian, so not a good example I'm afraid  About Portugal, I remember them giving 8 to Giorgos Alkaios, but I don't think they'd give him anything if the song didn't have appeal in them, since they usually enjoy this kind of songs, just because he is half Portuguese.

I don't think the UK will vote for Cascada because of that anyway, but because they are famous and had hits there. For people in the UK as I understood, it's quite unthinkable for someone they've heard of to go to ESC

Actual success in ESC is always a different thing. What I meant is can they promote their song better by having it played more often on radio etc.?

But that's what I meant, Kate Ryan was also established somewhat in central and northern Europe but it didn't help her...

In fact I was thinking of the troll 12 points Bulgaria gave to Germany in 2008... because one of the No Angels is Bulgarian. As for Portugal, they gave 12 points to Belgium on semi final in 2005 because Nuno resende is a French of Portuguese decent...

I didn't know Alkaios was half Portuguese !

That was indeed kinda "troll-ish"

Lucy from No Angels is Bulgarian, but she was also a judge on Bulgarian Idol so she was a celebrity in Bulgaria basically.

Quote from eurovision.tv:

While LaBrassBanda got all the top marks in the radio voting, the jury awarded the Bavarian band only one single point! On the other hand, the favourite of the jury, Blitzkids mvt., got only 1 and 2 points from the radio vote and the televote, respectively.

Actually, Kate Ryan wasn't that less famous than Cascada was... it all depends on what markets you look at.

Also, it's not as if Cascada are famous any longer, it was years since they had a hit.

So Natalie's clothing and dancing is better then? Well taste differs ;)

All I'm saying is pre-fame doesn't really directly translate to success...

No, Cascada is very famous still ! Evacuate the dancefloor was in 2009 and is still aired a lot. Kate Ryan was only known for covers of Mylène Farmer... And she was not known for herself. Cascada is established since a very long time. Plus, now I guess it can be aired on radios in France, which would be a novelty in France !

+ the group performed their song @ idol final and got decent airplay. Still 12 was over the top, ofc.

+1

Last year they had a hit "San Francisco", it was not a very big hit but still a song that was playing all around Europe. I had no idea who Kate Ryan was before ESC.

I learnt it afterwards... But on this night, we were very surprised ! hahaha Our Jean-Paul Gaultier wondered really why Bulgaria was attracted in someone nobody liked ! :D

I beg to differ here. Sending imported entries in foreign languages IMHO is worse than making own albeit crappy efforts.

Well, is Cascada's entry "imported" though? I do get your point though, but sending "crappy" efforts is not good either.

Are you guys serious in thinking that I meant that the United Kingdom would give 12 points to Germany cuz she's the daughter of British parents? Clearly that wont happen lol - Germany will get our douze points cuz Cascada's like well famous!!

You know that Cascada's biggest hits were also covers right (except for Evacuate)... so there's not much difference from Kate there.

Atleast here in Sweden I'd say Kate was almost as "big" as Cascada was in terms of radio plays atleast.

I had no idea who Kate Ryan was before ESC.

She was only known in neighbouring countries... Her Mylène farmer were plaied on teenage radios at the time because it was Mylène Farmer covers... Her biggest hit is still the cover of "Désenchantée". But... she might be at the time one of the few "international" flemish acts, hence a so-called fame...
