Re: FRANCE 2018

what the hell have they done ?

It's an homage to their new lyric video which they released on YouTube today. If you look carefully, you might see some familiar French faces, including Tal (singer), Slimane (who's doing a duet with Emmy Liyana in the final) and Nikos Aliagas (TV presenter)

The translation of the video's description is as follows:

On March 21, 2017, we came across a tweet from a reporter embarked on the Aquarius, the humanitarian boat chartered by SOS Mediterranean. He showed the picture of a little girl named Mercy who had just been born on board. The birth of MERCY gave us so many emotions that we looked for a happy and comforting way to put it in song, then in video.
Because, whether we like it or not, we are all migrants today or yesterday, we went to meet dozens of people of all origins and ages, anonymous and personalities, likely to understand the reasons for the long journey taken by MERCY and his mother. Thus, for four months, armed with an IPhone, one or two lights and Canson paper, we traveled through Paris and some provincial towns, and made 156 portraits. In our own way, as amateurs, but passionate and moved, we made a collection of faces and sincere smiles, and told 156 times the beautiful story of MERCY, this baby of hope.
Provided she and her mom are safe today, no matter where they laid the foundation stone of their new life.

Neither of those names are used much in Portugal, at all actually. Especially Cuxi. That name actually comes from Cape Verde.

OK, but Cape Verde speaks Portuguese as well, so when I see names that look Portuguese to me, it doesn't really matter if it's from the mainland or elsewhere. To me, as an outsider, the name immediately looked Portuguese to me.

When Mercy wins it may just end up being my number one of Eurovision 2018. I can’t stop listening.

I guess I'll jump on the Mercy train, but I have this feeling that we will end up getting another winner...

Re: FRANCE 2018

I'll admit that I've not gone all the way back to check, but it seems that I am about the only person rooting for Igit and "Lisboa Jerusalem" I think it's such a charming typically French song with delightful staging and a wonderfully entertaining delivery. For those who have seen Amélie, I could imagine it as the background music when following the gnome going around the world. :p I full well know it's not got a hope in hell of winning, and frankly if France want to do WELL they should not select it, but I don't give a damn: It's my favourite in the final by a country mile and I am so chuffed to see it there at least! :D

As for the rest...

Mercy, Eva, Ciao and Rêves de gamins are all decent songs which would make good winners for me.

Mercy: Great singer and I like the wordplay. It just doesn't quite come alive for me enough to stand out though.
Rêves de gamin: It's a fun little entry; possible could be a little better done, but it's a good laugh. Would be doomed at ESC.
Eva: WHY WHY WHY DO THE FRENCH PUT RANDOM ENGLISH INTO SONGS?! Seriously!!! It's ridiculous. The build is wrong too - not coming to a decent climax. But having said all of that, I do enjoy it a lot at the moment and, with some work, I could really see it doing well.
Ciao: Unique performance style, but I am not quite sure about the vocal work... We shall see how it works out in the final!

Then the rest...

Mamma Mia: Good feel, but so forgettable. It just meanders about without really doing anything for me.
Ailleurs: A little Douwe Bob maybe? I dunno. It's sweet and charming, but floats on by and I am really not hugely into it.
OK ou KO: Always fighting an uphill battle given it's rap and I detest rap. Possibly the cleverest song of the lot - I love the KO/chaos homonym use. She certainly slays the stage when performing, but it's just not the type of song I enjoy, which is a shame.

Re: FRANCE 2018

Quick question to my French friends on here...or those who are awesome Googelers. What time does Saturday's show end, does anybody know? We're going to do a live stream after the show and I certainly don't want to start until we have a winner.

Apparently, the show might be longer than anticipated and end around midnight instead of 23:30.
