Re: FRANCE 2018

Malo was wonderful. Reminiscent of Sigur Ros vocally. He has character. It is something potentially unique in this year's Contest. His song is quality to me - much superior to Lisandro's track which has an ok chorus but that is it. If the French fail to see the potential in Malo and favour Lisandro then I can only hope MadameMonsieur are as good as reports suggest in semi 2 & they grab the ticket to Lisbon. France clearly has some strong options but the one that seems to be favoured (Lisandro) certainly isn't the best choice.

Re: FRANCE 2018

these are quite decent viewing figures.

that's the worst they did a Saturday night since Telethon (October 2017), they should have done better when there was no strong shows yesterday evening.

So considering it's a eurovision thing : it's average/good. Considering it's a Tv show with music talents, that's the worst they could have wished for. I want it to be succesful as you want it to be but let's not put our blindfold right ? this is bad. FR2 is the second channel in France, when you're the second channel you're not doing that kind of viewing figures.

I truly wish they're gonna end up higher for the finale but with the 1st blind auditions of The Voice France... Let's just hope they keep the format, the show will grow over time/years.

I just wanna ask you a simple but important question: What did you expect from the very first semi-final of a brand new national final in France, where the ESC is seen as a trashy and awful contest? I ain't writing this down with an agressive mood towards you, but I'm clearly standing up against this kind of criticism (not your message though, I got that you weren't upset at all by FTV but by the viewing figures) towards FTV. They did their best in order to provide us an outstanding national final, what should we request besides?

Let's see whether the viewing figures will increase or not, but well... this disappointment is mainly due to the "movie" that FR3 did air at the same time as FR2 did with Destination Eurovision. Besides, this doesn't necessarily mean that this won't be reconducted for the following years. FR3 did a mistake, but they ruled yesterday's viewing figures and this is great.

Moreover, as you told me that this is pretty average for a TV show with music talents, I do assume that we should take into account that this was the very first edition this year, not the 3rd or the 50th like Melfest with their 10k million of viewers every year. We must be aware of the fact that the ESC isn't rooted in French people habits. We have to wait some time in order to see it getting better and better over the years.

Do not be so rough towards them, I believe that for a first time launch of this kind of TV show or national selection (whatever it's being called), this could've been way worse in regards to the awful reputation of the ESC in France.

I expect it to reach over 3 or 4 million viewers for the grand final within two weeks. And, in a nutshell, they did gather twice as more viewers as the latest French NF did. (without any semi-finals :?)

Malo was wonderful. Reminiscent of Sigur Ros vocally. He has character. It is something potentially unique in this year's Contest. Can't wait to notice how much M&M will grow on me as they already did!!! :D

Re: FRANCE 2018

So about the french finalists...

"Emmy Liyana - OK ou KO" - Good! The song starts really well but then it kinda... stays there. It's like a microwave. It heats and heats but it doesn't cooks. Still, way better than the lasts entries France has been sending to eurovision. 8/10

"Lisandro Cuxi - Eva" - This is really, REALLY good! France could win with this. Without a doubt! I'm surprised by it's quality. 9/10

"Louka - Mamma Mia" - The music is really cute but his voice it's a little weak. Requiem good but not better. 7/10

"Malo' - Ciao" - It's good! I don't love it but wouldn't change the radio station if it was on. However, I think it would do very well at Eurovision. 7/10

I'm really surprised by the quality of french NF. Every finalist is different from each other, current and air friendly.

I just hope we have something similar in our portuguese NF (because we ALL know Salvador's song was a diamond in a horrific national selection). Fingers crossed!

Actually I'm quite fed up with "making excuses" . We're not talking about kids that are clumsy towards something, we can keep rooting for them as I do but I want to point out bad things too, I just like being honest, because that's how I like ESC, I'm not into those one way thinking. So It's not really about being harsh or rough towards them, it's just telling them : it's not good enough.

Should we really take into account that's the first drawing of our wannabe artist ? no. They are professionals working in the music industry and TV industry for ages and yet they keep making mistakes. I don't want to hear any excuses anymore. Do . Your. Job . Make it sleek. I'm not saying it was (the show) bad or horrendous, I'm just saying A LOT of things can be improved, I'm not saying what they're doing is in the wrong way, it's just "not enough" in that way. And I know that one of the biggest problem in France is taking criticism and do something with it, we're so easy to offend and "do our thing" and put our blindfold on, and we're gonna be first to put the fault on someone else.

This is a great start with very very bad viewing figures, now let's work harder and harder to make it flawless without making some kid excuses, let's say it was not good but let's keep working on it and rooting for them.

This is all I wanted to hear from you, you basically pointed out the mistakes that have been done yesterday (apart from the viewing figures which are quite decent for this first semi-final in France).

I was just willing to tell you that no matter how it'll look like in the following weeks, be sure that they'll improve it. FTV is taking it more seriously than FR3. :? Moreover, these issues about the too small stage will certainly be fixed next year, they just needed to see whether it worked or not. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME. ;)

We should be proud of this too.

EDIT: Oops, 550 000 viewers last year for the first semi-final.

Euh...

Re: FRANCE 2018

Yesterday my favorite was Emmy Liyanna but tbh I'm not sure she would be able to score very high in May... Lisandro would be a less risky choice. But we still have to see what the acts from the 2nd semifinal have to offer!

John1 Marvelous Please stick to English, this is international forum and there are members who do not know French.

Mrm I actually started to like OK ou KO more and more, but Eva is great as well xcheer French NF is strong this year, but I would be very happy with either Eva or OK ou KO for ESC 2018 out of Semi 1 qualifiers :D (other 2 qualifiers are OK as well)

I watched Emmy's performance on YouTube just now - I'm sold! Her vocals fit the mood of the song, it's got a good beat and it's got a good message. With a bit more polish before the final, she will absolutely be a contender

Now let's see what the second semifinal will offer

Re: FRANCE 2018

Big big fan of 'OK ou KO' here. I've had it on repeat for the last two days and it hasn't lost any of its magic. I love the kinda smoky RnB vibe it gives and Emmy's voice is a perfect match. I'd be absolutely thrilled to see this representing France in Lisbon, but I also loved 'Rêve de Gamin' from the snippet so I'm looking forward to seeing how that one measures up in its full version!

As for 'Eva', it gives me major Hungary 2014 vibes, which for me isn't a particularly good thing but I guess for ESC that's a good comparison. I just don't know if it's got the magic it needs to do as well as 'Running' though. I'm just hoping Nassi comes along and outshines Lisandro as I feel they're fighting for similar votes here.
