Re: FRANCE 2018

haha that's fine :)

BTW I saw a lot of people complaining about covers (I did too) BUT #randomfact : Don't ever place a bet on French curiosity, cause french people like what they already know, so a show with half of total unknown singers singing unknown songs is death for the ratings.

LOL. To be honest, the only ones who were complaining tonight were French people. ;)

I as a poor person kindly ask France (and UK!) to wait a bit more to win the whole thing.

French jury murdered the results. Noee should have gone through. Can't believe the amount of points Malo got. Nothing in this semi would give France a good result though. Emmy probably in the best position. Lisandro is dreadful.

Emmy Liyana - OK ou KO >>>>>>>>> everything else

"OK ou KO" is fantastic. I didn't think i'd care for it after listening to the snippet, but boy I was wrong. For something that's so slow and with a repetitive beat, it somehow knows how to drive itself along whilst still keeping things very interesting. The chorus is wonderful, and that sort of key change that happens after each chorus finishes adds to the intrigue. It's a hypnotizing song but you're also very much there with it. I couldn't help but head bob along. The performance is really great as well, and those vocals are impressive. Super classy stuff.

"Eva" is ok, but it's basic and relies too much on cringey showmanship. The pre-chorus is actually great and gets you hyped but then it never delivers fully on it's promise. I don't dislike it, but i'd be disappointed if it won. "Ciao" has some nice parts, but I dislike the highly inflected vocals and mismatched performance. I don't think I can handle the overall package. "Mamma Mia"....... how even did this make the final?

Is there any point though in me even getting my hopes up for Emmy? She was 2nd but so far behind Lisandro. I don't think i'm going to allow myself to get excited. Feel free however to pleasantly surprise me France.

If I'm not wrong, there'll be no votes from the French jury in the final, and the international jury will be composed of more countries + there'll be televoting. If there are a couple of good acts in the other semi, there may be surprises results-wise. :)

Oh maybe Emmy has a chance thenxpray I'm really looking forward to hearing the full version of June The Girl's song. That was the only one that strongly jumped out at me from the snippets.

Maybe :) I hope so too, because I'm not really feeling "Eva" either...

I've re-listened to it once, and the more I think about it, the more it sounds like a Eurovision cliché: it's dated, the chorus doesn't explode as it should be (plus it's in English, which feels unnecessary here), the high note is weirdly placed and the instrumental break to show Lisandro's skills at imitating MJ... It almost couldn't be any more typical and Eurovisiony imo (even Björkman didn't give it his twelve points ).

Results-wise, I don't think this would do well at all: maybe juries would buy that to some extent, but I fail to see televoters reward us like crazy with that song in Eurovision. I already know there'll be better - more genuine - packages at the contest already.

I'd rather see us send a song that's less manufactured and cliché - even if success isn't guaranteed - than send "Eva" and fare decently tbh (if that is even possible).

"O.K. Ou K.O." was my clear fave last night, all Emmy has to do is work on her fierceness to appear in her best light. The song demands queenbitch-like stares and poses imo  and why not a rawer vocal delivery. To be honest, I'm not sure how she'd fare in the contest, if the staging is appropriate, it could enhance the impact of the song. She could also flop Amandine Bourgeois-style, you never know.

Otherwise, I hope there are other solid songs in the other semi because I haven't heard anything so far that would make other nations tremble in Lisbon, let alone pave the way to victory.

Re: FRANCE 2018

tuorem I agree with your opinions on "Eva". That big note followed by the dance break feels shoehorned in, and the chorus just isn't big enough. If you're going to go for a song like this then you need to go full on, making it something that sounds and feels super massive. The whole thing is too Eurovision cliche and not interesting enough whilst doing it.

I'm unsure how "O.K. Ou K.O" would do at the contest as well. It could go either way. Emmy's song does actually share some similarities with Amandine Bourgeois' "L'enfer Et Moi" (both slow and beat driven), which perhaps isn't the most glowing sign, but I do think it's got something special. It also left an amazing first impression which is important. I guess there are areas that can be improved upon, but I think it was a great performance. I think it has the potential to be staged very well at Eurovision.

I agree that it's better to take a risk and at least have an entry that's singular and of very high quality. You can do better than "Eva". I don't care really at all that "Eva" is cliche actually, just that it's not doing it all particularly well.

Re: FRANCE 2018

Now I understand why Louka got so low points in the semi... What a shame that he's terrible live, because the song had major potential. And why did they remove the voice effects? That was probably half of the song's greatnessxshrug However, Eva and OK ou KO have grown in my eyes, I could see both doing fairly well at ESC, Eva would probably do better and has some staging potential as well.

Re: FRANCE 2018

I think Emmy Liyana and Malo were the best. Not perfect of course but I can see them doing well with the right staging in Lisbon. But I gotta say that I have a preference here for "Ciao". His vocals were clearly not on point tonight but from what I have seen online he can wonders if he wants. His voice is so unique. You either hate it ou love it. But is it not what we are looking for in Eurovision nowadays, something unique ?

That's why I think Eva is not a good choice. His performance was good but the song is so cliché and dated. It's the traditionnal upbeat song. It will definitely get lost in the Grand Final full of entries that sound exactly the same.

Re: FRANCE 2018

My ranking of the qualifiers;

Ciao (the least radio-friendly of the qualifiers so perhaps that's why it appeals, the vocal performance wasn't fantastic but it's a quality song and I can feel the passion in the performance)
Mamma Mia (vocals need improving but a great catchy song which wouldn't sound out of place as a casual summer favourite)
Eva (not sure why this appears to be the favourite so far? Can't really tell what the direction of the song is, just sounds like a generic RnB pop song to me...)
OK ou KO (great vocal performance, probably the best out of the four but the song goes nowhere fast for me...)

Pinning all my hopes on Nassi delivering next weekend :?

Apparently, "Madame Monsieur" gave the best performance. Not only of the 2nd SF but the 1st SF too.
So wait and see

We'll have to wait and see of course but their snippet doesn't fill me with too much promise, hoping the full song delivers

Not so many viewers for Destination Eurovision, nothing really strong was against and still, it was third behind FR3 and TF1 (above 4Millions for these two) when FR2 was between 2 Millions - 2,5 Millions. A little disappointing after all the buzz they tried to create.

Erm, sorry but this is something I have to disagree with. This is the very first time that Destination Eurovision aired in France and given that French people do have to reconnect with the ESC and stuff, these are quite decent viewing figures.

Re: FRANCE 2018

So here is what I think about the four qualifiers:

Louka (who is damn hot btw, jesus...) was decent. The staging and the song is good, he was a bit stiff perhaps but overall deserved to qualify in 4th place.
Malo' has my favorite song, cool coldplay/sigur ros kind of song. Charismatic singer, maybe a little over the place, but put some work on this and it can be magical in the final.
Emmy is a cool singer and the song is not bad...but I have a feeling this might be a last place if it goes to Lisbon. It is a mixture of "Black Smoke" (Germany 2015) and "Ou Aller (France 1998) and if we count the amount of points these two songs got it is....*drumroll*...1p. Says it all, so don't pick her France...
Lisandro is the most secure choice for France. Not my number 1 fave, but that chorus is explosive and sticks like glue to the head. He is good too, but need a few dancers or something to make the performance work 100%, but has a lot of potential.
