The last time, we had two songs sung mainly in french (meaning not just a line in French like Hera Björk or Evelina Sasenko) was back in 2007. (Patricia Kaas and Evridiki for Cyprus). If France wins, I hope this will have a washback-effect on the songs next year and we will have more different languages.

Actually in 2010, :ch: tried in French with "Il pleut de l'or" (though no one remembers...) and in 2009 we had "La Voix" (though French was hardly recognizable...)

So last time with 2 songs in French was in 2010, :fr: and :ch:

I saw this picture on Twitter this morning, there's a giant poster of Amir on the exterior of the FranceTélévisions HQ in Paris

13071930_10154017533047324_522472455570383658_o.jpg

They began the promotion on TV as well with the song played all the day.
Apparently, we will also follow his journey to Eurovision everyday in 5 minutes before the main program on the evening ! That's a cool idea !

[Yet, during AAAAALL the talk-shows on France Télévision, you can hear that Eurovision is crap. And yet, all these persons will lick as many asses as possible to host it next year if we win  ]

I don't care enough about the French language.

I wonder what you would say if everyone who doesn't care about the Bulgarian language started to call your country Boo-something. ;)

Please France, do not waste this chance. You have a positive, modern and catchy song, now all you have to do is promote it and do an extraordinary staging that no one will ever forget. This is the perfect winner for Eurovision 2016 unlike Russia's Dima Bilan 2.0. GO AMIR!

I wouldn't care about that tbh. We're so used of some xenophobes like you to hate everything about Eastern Europe to the point where we just stop giving a fuck about your opinion. That's how the East works. You show us hate - we let you to talk to the hand.

Justified opposition to Russia is not the same as hating everything about Eastern Europe. Russia is just a part of Eastern Europe, btw. It's sad that you cannot see the difference.

I think that you are over complicating stuff. In the end of the day - those are just singers and I like the French song as well. I just like the Russian song more. I understand that it's a big drama for you (how can somebody like Eastern trash more than a Western trash), but personally, I don't care. Bye.

Differentiating between Russia and Eastern Europe seems to be too difficult for you. If you think I'm overly complicated because I do make that difference, I cannot help it. xshrug

Bye bye!

You're right about 2010, but I didn't count 2009 because the entire verses were in english and as you said, the french parts were not really recognizable.
So I messed up 2 times with one post....
I should stop posting from my mobile while being in the bus....

BTW, the spokesperson this year will be former Miss Europe Elodie Gossuin

You have got to love the French commentators, Stephane Bern said that he'd bathe naked in Stockholm's central fountain if France won!

And I know it doesn't mean much, but it seems that France is on the verge of crossing the 400-point threshold in the OGAE poll with 3 clubs left to vote (Austria, Azerbaijan, Sweden) and has already smashed the all-time record posted by Loreen 4 years ago

The French Minister of Francophonie, André Vallini, finds it "consterning" and "unacceptable" that the song is half in English, and not fully in French.

The last time this situation occured was in 2008 when Tellier went to Belgrade with a 100% english song, he was forced by the government and FTV to add some French words on the stage.

After Russia's first rehearsal, it looks like France is about to take over Russia in the odds.

What does the word "consterning" even mean? I put it on Google Translate but it gives me no translation.

GianlucaTomoe well it means something like "it's a shame", "stupid", when you look at something and you find it quite bad. Appallingly or distressingly may be better words for it (Dismay/Distress) Terrible is an option too.

You forgot to add he mostly spoke about the euro 2016 song (not Guetta's one, the supporters anthem for the french team) and only after he add _ same for the eurovison song_ which proves that he did not even listen Amir's song.

France seems to be equal to Russia on Betfair right now (I usually follow their odds the closest). The upward trend for France is likely to continue until he rehearses, but where it'll go then is anyone's guess. Amir does know how to sing and can deliver an excellent performance, but he doesn't always do it, and France's visual setups have been shaky for the past few years. If they get it right, France is a very strong contender, but who knows what's going to happen. The song is going to be a radio hit all over Europe, but that alone doesn't give you points in ESC.
