Ok we have some news !

EBU officially announced today that countries now have a new deadline to register: January 10th.
That is to say that the countries that declared financial difficulty as a reason not to go to Copenhagen (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Serbia) can still consider participation after all as they have 1,5 month ahead of them to find funds or sponsors and send an entry for this year’s contest.

Well, so if EBU goes this way, I think Polish TVP will go the same. "No answer until 10.01.14 blah blah blah"

Bulgarian national broadcaster hailed the EBU deadline extension after their announcement about withdrawing from Eurovision Song Contest 2014.

On Facebook, BNT replied they are seriously considering any possible support which is welcomed. “…generally any help in this situation is welcome.” posted BNT on their official Facebook page today.

The same situation seems to apply for Serbian national broadcaster as well. With the regional organized Eurovision fans been furious on RTS decision to withdraw, RTS seems to leave a (small) open window to reconsider their decision.

Not to forget that Bosnia & Herzegovina and Slovenia already said “yes” to Eurovision 2014 but only if they find sponsors by January 10th.

The good thing is that Bulgaria & Serbia are not totally out yet.
The bad thing is that if also Slovenia & Bosnia dont find a sponsor, the number of participating countries might be even 34. (14 in each semi)

According to Tomoe on the forbidden forum, BNT's Eurovision related pages are run by OGEA members. So the news about the intention to reverse their withdrawal in case they receive a sponsorship should definitely be taken with a pinch of salt.

He said it clearly
“We use all the time we have until we announce the full list of participants in early January to see if we can find solutions for the challenges of our members. This is partly why there is a gap of about six weeks between the deadline for application and the announcement of the full list of participants.”

34 participants??

It get's easier these days to qualify through the semifinals. :p

well actually I would say minimum 35 - I expect Greece to take part, after recent events. But 35 is only there providing Poland say no, Slovenia and B&H withdraw applications because they couldn't find a sponsor.

I'm quite optimistic that we'll have at least these 37 countries. Maybe there will be a surprise and one of the withdrawing countries or Poland changes its decision.

Well considering the EBU bending over backwards to get countries to return/stay in and the extra time we better have more then 35!

If they don't I don't know what to think then xshrug
