Has good word on the rehearsal made any impact on the odds?

This song was pretty much called dead....is there a resurrection happening

Definite qualifier. I wasn't so thrilled about Vaclav's voice in this kind of music before, but now on stage they are marvelous. It would be a crime if they don't make it.

Although I hated the song at first, I really hope for a qualification now and I start liking it now! Great voices and great staging really should be rewarded! :)

It took me a while to get into to it too! Now, well I think it should qualify after one hell of a rehearsal performance!

Comparing Marta & Vaclav with Morland & Debrah I think the former currently have much more of a complete package than the latter. The CR definitely did their homework this time, while Norway has a lot to catch up with. That is Vienna's biggest surprise for me so far. Remains to be seen what happens tomorrow.

Another surprise: So far I see no positive response to CR in the odds. Even for qualifying they are still in the bottom three. Are the bettors sleeping?

Not just you, it's certainly up there for me. Great song imo

It's happening for me too- if this continues, maybe they'll have a strong enough fanbase to pull off a qualification! :D

I see two faces of the coin here: When I heard the Czech song for the first time weeks before the rehearsals I thought it was surprisingly good, but will have difficulties to qualify because there are many similar (and maybe slightly better) songs in the contest. Also Czech Republic does not seem to have the sufficient support from Europe considering their previous ESC appearances.

On the day of the first rehearsal most of the worries seem to disappear, because many people from the media found the rehearsal outstandingly good. Here in the forum Czech Republic went from "typical losers" to "sure qualifiers" in only a couple of hours. Well, I want to say that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle: The chances of the entry are not as bad as people thought before ESC but they have not risen as extremely now after we've seen only a few seconds of the rehearsal.

By the way, that's generally one thing that bothers me a little: For every single competitor who has his first rehearsal you can find at least one user here who finds it absolutely great and thinks that it is "a sure qualifier now". According to the forum and other press reactions, significantly more than 10 countries per semifinal would progress to the final. But OK: people are enthuiastic about their favourites and the whole ESC, so am I. Who can blame us?

But one last positive aspect concerning Czech Republic which I noticed yesterday evening when watching some more youtube-footage: Marta and Vaclav did a very good job at the "meet & greet" press conference and other interviews: They appeared self-confident without being arrogant told some interesting facts and some funny stuff (remember "kick Czech Republic's ass", I laughed so hard). Let's see what the semifinal brings.

I agree with you that there is never a reason to be over-optimistic. We still are and will be in the second semi-final, in which is more qualification-worthy entries than is possible to save. Personally, I wouldn´t dare to say the Czech Republic is "sure qualifier". But I guess that our yesterday´s optimism was partly a reaction on the staging not being as useless as we all expected. In some previous interviews, Marta repeatedly said that they are going to present only the song itself and their voices ("keep it pure and simple") without any gimmicks. So, it looked like they don´t really know how important staging in Eurovision is. But thanks to the snippet from yesterday and some descriptions of the whole act, now we know that their staging is actually more visually interesting and dynamic than anybody expected, especially in comparison with some others, where the performer just awkwardly stands on the spot and sings.

You are probably right also in the implications that people actually like more Marta and Václav as people than their song. They seem to like their edgy clowning and happy-go-lucky attitude, which is something permanently present in interviews with them, but not so easily translatable into performing a song like Hope Never Dies. Most people who will be watching Eurovision will not be familiar with all the funny YouTube videos, which means that their perception of the performance will be inevitably different than perception of ESC fans, following each step of Marta and Václav for months. So, we are definitely not "sure qualifier". But we stil can hope. :)
