A pleasant rumor doing the round of Cyprus last 24 hours that RIK - barring the unexpected - closed .. for this year's representation of the island in Eurovision ...
If that sounds intense the last hours and you like it enough to ShowTime-cy then ... Michalis Hatzigiannis ... go to Eurovision with Cyprus, writing song for Valanto Tryphonos.
The cooperation and friendship between the two holds and after that year has followed Michalis Hatzigiannis in several performances ... However, the most ... possible sentence holds in his hands the moment RIK if there's been something stronger ... then the budgets of song by Mihalis Hatzigiannis is an excellent choice to represent worthily Cyprus in the next contest Eurovision ....

PLEASE LET THIS BE MORE THAN A RUMOR!!! This is just what Cyprus needs this year in my opinion! Valanto is a great vocalist, and a nice ballad by Michalis Hatzigiannis can take her far as we saw with their first single together!
By the way, Valanto is in Cyprus this week according to her Twitter. She posted a picture of herself and her brother yesterday. Hopefully it is not a coincidence. Come on CYBC, choose Valanto NOT Giorgos Doukas!

In my opinion, Valando is the best Cypriot female vocalist right now! I just hope the song will not be an American-style ballad just to show that, though.

After the negative response of George Papadopoulos for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 CyBC is awaiting the answer of Valando Tryfonos. She is the next option to represent Cyprus in the contest next May and she is considering the proposal.
There are rumors that she is considering participation under a song penned by Michalis Hatzigiannis (Cyprus 1998) as Showtime-Cy reported. Valando Tryfonos is known to the Eurofan community from her participation in the Greek national final of 2011. There are no information yet regarding the response of Valando Tryfonos and her record label.
If Valando also turns down the proposal the names for a proposal will go (according to local media) are Philippos Constantinos (former member of band ONE, Cyprus 2002) and George Doukas. We hope Valando responds positively and give Cyprus one more time a great voice for the contest.

I agree, unless it's a very well written ballad, but the positive thing is that Michalis Hatzigiannis does not write American style ballads / wailing stuff, etc! His ballads most of the times contain at least minor folk-ish elements, and when they don't they are clearly pop or pop-rock. I posted the song he composed for Valando in few posts above, and here are some other songs he composed for other singers:

According to Showtime CY blog, another name has emerged in the running for Eurovision: Vera Boufi. She is Anna Vissi's niece.
According to the same blog, they say that now the "list" of artists that have come into contact with CYBC and are in the running are: Valanto Trifonos, Despina Olympiou, Vera Boufi, Giorgos Doukas, & Filipos Konstantinos. They further say that a choice is supposed to be made public by early January. Hopefully they come to their senses and pick Valanto!

Vera Boufi is nice, I like her, but I prefer Valando! My ranking according the names that were rumored so far:
1. Valando Tryfonos
2. Despina Olympiou
3. Vera Boufi
4. Filippos Constantinos
5. Giorgos Doukas
6. Kypros Harilaou (because he was rumored too)
Btw, Vera Boufi's best song is this IMO, a nice pop-rock powerful ballad:

I don't think "imitate" is the right word. "Resembles" is more accurate IMO. Their voices are similar, it's natural.
