I don't get this, where do they draw the line? Does it only apply to countries that are late to confirm their participation? Otherwise, it could mean a country like Czech Republic that participated a couple of times - and that confirmed already - would eventually be rejected because it's full house and older participants prevail? xthink That's awful to countries that are relatively "new" to the contest.

Exactly. Countries that are returning/debuting wouldn't have a chance to compete and could lose interest by missing out a year.

We are talking about the chance of having more than 46 countries ? :geek:
I think it's not a realistic scenario.
My guess for this year is..

I think it's quite possible for it to happen in the next few years. All it takes is the 40 countries of 2015 plus Ukraine, Turkey, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Slovakia for example. For this year it's hard, but it's not unrealistic at all to think about this scenario in the upcoming years, especially once the financial crisis is over.

Oh, will it be over?
It started in 2008,if i remember well.
And it gets harder year by year.

Yes it will. It's not the first financial crisis that hit the world. And a lot of countries are getting out of it already. But this is off-topic.

Believe me, we will hardly reach 45 countries any time soon!
I doubt Croatia, Slovakia or Bosnia will return soon... plus there could always be a surprise withdrawal.

You never know. Who would have thought the Czech Republic was going to return last year?
If they do well, Slovakia will surely return. They have already showed interest. Bosnia is very interested, what they need is the money. Croatia is harder, in order for them to get really interested I guess the HRT board would need to change.

I really hope :pt: doesn't take part. I'm fed up with RTP's lack of taste and decency. There's nothing to expect from them. 1999-2014 one good entry and that is it (they probably thought that one was bad too). We've got much better to show than this. :? This weak tv channel does not represent the Portuguese music. I really hope people can see that far. So as a Portuguese esc fan, I do not want to see this channel sending a song stating it is "Portugal". It's embarrassing, really. :?

Even if all the remaining countries apply and take part (Russia,Moldova,Portugal,San Marino,Serbia,Montenegro,Croatia,Albania),
and even if no one withdraws (Bulgaria,Bosnia etc.),
the number of participants will be 44.
So i believe that there will be 40-41 countries this year (without Australia).

If no one withdraws, we are at 44 countries. If Croatia and Slovakia return, it's 46.
So I think 41 to 44 is realistic.

I think that there is big chance that :sk: and :hr: will return. Unfortunately, I think :sm: and (maybe) :me: will withdraw. I also don't believe :ba: will return. Hence I think there will be 42 countries, not including :au:

There hasn't been a financial crisis for over 4 years in this corner of Europe. Just saying...
