I'm a godless spy
I'm a spy, I uncover
All of your secrets, I want them
There's no stopping me now
I'm a liar
Playing the game of desire
Ain't gonna leave no survivors
Would you fall for me now?

Just like Cleopatra (Aah-aah)
The army of lovers
I start a fire
Yalan da mən yanan da mən yaman da mən

Ma-Ma-Ma-Mata Hari
Mata Hari
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
(Ma-ma-ma-ma) Ma-Ma-Ma-Mata Hari
Mata Hari
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
Mata Hari

Undercover
I am a dangerous lover
Drinking my poisonous water
And you're under my spell
Mesmerizing
Moving my hips, you are trying
You can't resist, try to fight it
Got a story to tell

Just like Cleopatra (Aah-aah)
The army of lovers
I start a fire
Yalan da mən yanan da mən yaman da mən

Ma-Ma-Ma-Mata Hari
Mata Hari
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
(Ma-ma-ma-ma) Ma-Ma-Ma-Mata Hari
Mata Hari
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
(Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma)
Mata Hari

Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma
Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma
Just like Cleopatra
Let's start a fire (Shh)
Let's go

Ma-ma-ma-ma, Mata Hari
Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-ma-ma, Mata Hari
Mata Hari

At first impression, the song felt like it was all over the place. But over time, I grew a liking to it as it got catchier and catchier. I think it is safe to say that Azerbaijan is among my favorites this year. I am not a fan of traditional instruments, no matter where it is from. That is the only down side of the song for me. But the rest is burning up.

Kinda disappointed here. I thought "Cleopatra" was one of the most underrated entries last year, and even a possible winner, but this feels like a weak copy to me. I don't see this doing super well, maybe low top 10 with a great staging.

I watched the video more than 10 times yesterday. I simply love it... apart from the multiple screens when she does her Azerbaijani chant, I think the video is quite good, tbh. Of course it's not a high-budget iconic masterpiece like her "Cleopatra" video but I love the dance routine, her outfit, the Ariana Grande-esque ponytail which makes her look iconic af and younger as well as the lightning.. it's simple yet very effective and seductive.

Read it yourself....

Thanks!

This is getting nowhere. Efendi and her political views did not translate in her entry this year and she did not use ESC as a platform to promote her political stance. So there is no reason EBU will bar her participation.

So "good luck" to that person who started the petition and those who sign the petition to get Efendi cancelled.

I swear to god to many petitions these days
P.S my friend sent me this

Ok so I read the petition, and sure there are reasons to question Azerbaijan (and other countries as well) to take part in Eurovision based on their democracy level, human rights violations and wars against other ESC countries, but if Russia is in (which is a far worse example of all that imho), then I doubt EBU is going to react.

It's hard to draw the line, as with Belarus we're talking very severe ongoing human rights violations en masse in something that borderline looks like a regime engaging in a war against its people and then on top of that sending an act having a song openly supporting that is obviously a case on its own, but here it's a bit trickier (the song for starters don't break any rules) and if EBU will open pandora's box, then we could eventually end up with half the Eurovision.

Also this particular petition seems to make Efendi more guilty by association, do they have proof of their "claims"? Did Efendi actually explicitly called for killing of Armenians? xshrug

There was a time I supported Azerbaijan to be banned due to cheating and breaching EBU rules, the interrogation of citizens over voting for a song. But EBU didn't care (money talks) and no point in dwelling in history.

We live in the age of woke culture and a generation of snowflakes ... what to expect really? Everyone is triggered by something these days

I mean I get the Belarusian case, because you don't play around with human rights like that. I would also get Russia. I mean if this is about Azeri lack of democracy, then ok I "get it", although if we're opening that pandora's box then suddenly half of Eurovision would eventually be gone (not that I support a dictatorship). Is it perhaps about the war with Armenia?

I mean I wanted them to be banned a year or two back when they cheated, interrogated citizens for whom they voted for and all that mess, but it didn't happen ultimately and I see no point on dwelling on it today.

I believe EBU's stand is clear that they don't want to get involved in each country's politics since the main basis of the contest is supposed to bring Europe (or now, everyone in the contest) together.

EBU will only intervene if the countries use ESC as a platform to spread political views etc, so I believe that's why Belarus got the warning from EBU. Had Belarus sent in something in line with the ESC regulations, I doubt EBU will disqualify them even though the political climate in Belarus is "less-than-ideal" (a diplomatic way to describe it).

^ @crashworld

I completely changed my response after actually reading the petition (I guess it's good to read before reacting :ROFLMAO:). So I guess re-quote in your response (although your response could still fit the new response)? ;)

Tumblr, mostly.
These are legit grounds to dislike Efendi personally, but not necessarily to DQ her from Eurovision, lol. Like, the EBU will simply distance themselves from the politics (which an Azer DQ absolutely *would* be) and ITV will let her compete with the caveat she has to keep her mouth shut about the Nagorno-Karabakh war. (and she will.)

Personally, I will always try to detach my opinion of the song from the artist in these scenarios (though I don't dislike Efendi anyway), and I'd advise you to do the same.

In 2017, the five-member Azerbaijani juries unanimously ranked the Armenian entrant last and ranked the Cypriot entrant with an Armenian background second to last. EBU has taken no affirmative actions against ITV in the past for these violations.

 How exactly would anyone name it 'violation' ? What if all of 'em would put the song at 11th place? It would still receive 0. Would that be a violation too?

What about Greece and Cyprus, are they violating the rules as well because they give 12s across the board to each other?
