I'd rather pick Anna Book, as she won't take part in MF obviously, GRRRRR  :( I'd choose her as a host country's representative, that would be simply brilliant!! xlove xheart :)

Here's a translated interview with Anna F.:

How can we imagine the search for new talents for the Song Contest?
There is a team of great people (musicians, managers, producers, bookers) that will make a nationwide scouting through clubs, via Youtube etc. Those who don't get noticed by the team can also get in touch via audition@orf.at

What excites you about the task?
I think it's interesting to work together with other musicians. Often conversations or jam sessions lead to ideas you wouldn't have had otherwise. Since I often work alone as well I always regard it as a pleasant change to get together with people and allow full bent to creative cooperation. Naturally, I mainly want to help young musicians to find their way. Especially in the beginning of a career it's important to get insider tips you wouldn't otherwise get from producers or record labels (sometimes on purpose).

Do you maybe have some talents in mind already?
No. The team is currently in the middle of the scouting process.

You will also be responsible for coaching the musicians. What would be an advantage for them to bring alone in order to stand a chance for the Song Contest?
Above all, they should have something individual, personality, their own style that makes them unmistakable - the passion for music and of course a good song.

Will you also approach more well-known artists? Or do you think it's better if an unknown artist represents Austria at the Song Contest anyway?
How do you define a well-known artist? When they are played on the radio? In that case they are probably mainly unknown artists. For me it's also a personal concern to give exactly those a platform.

What do you expect from the Austrian entrant next year? Can Conchita's success even be repeated?
I mainly expect passion for the music. The success at the Song Contest is secondary - for me it's more important that the artists can establish themselves after the show in the long run. Conchita Wurst is successful but not only because of her music but also because of what she embodies. This time the focus will rather be on the music itself. For me it's important that we also show Austria how many good and diverse musicians we have.

Are you actually personally a fan of the Eurovision Song Contest?
So far I never really devoted myself to the Song Contest, but I see it as a chance to get rid of old patterns and always the same sounds - at least when it comes to the Austrian entry.

I feel like Austria and Hungary are becoming the new Eurovision powerhouses. This sounds very interesting.

Also the Netherlands and Finland are on a very good path.

I like the attitude "success is secondary", hence authenticity and quality rule. That was the same attitude Conchita has shown (and the Linnets of course).

Unlike last year's Nathalia Kelly who was too naive for ESC and had a bland, generic song.

These countries could be the frontrunners for a new Eurovision, that appeals to a much broarder audience, basically to all song lovers around the world.

Similar to the route the BBC took late year. I like it.

The BBC just picked a random singer. ORF is doing a big national final with real scouting and the involvment of many famous names. I can't see any similiarities.

Well, at least BBC's route this year was not too bad. One year you're up, and one you're down. It's not like the UK is completely way off, they've started to have their share of decent results by 2009.

The scouting was done through BBC Introducing. They didn't just pick her randomly.

And in another interview Anna F. stated Bilderbuch, Parov Stelar, Soap&Skin and Ja, Panik as examples of good Austrian music. xheart

Soap&Skin is insane. I think I'd cry if she was to ever be represented in Eurovision xheart

I think i'd probably go one further and spontaneously combust on the spot from the sheer shock:lol: Anja Plaschg is my favourite artist ever. She's extraordinary. She would never do it though. She announced she was uncomfortable when picking up her EBBA award. I highly doubt that she'd want to compete in a singing competition where her music (that she wouldn't even be able to play live) is judged and ranked by people, given a number next to it. Also, a Soap&Skin entry would be very bad for my health as she'd have to win, otherwise I literally would have a massive fit.

For the German speakers out there: Here's a really interesting radio interview with Alexander Deutsch (musician and Anna F.'s manager) who is responsible for the scouting process of the Austrian NF. http://files2.orf.at/vietnam2/files/bgldmagazin/201442/mz_podcast_alex_deutsch_312222.mp3

A quick summary of what he said:
- They're already coming towards the end of the scouting process
- 150-200 artists are being considered at this point
- What they're looking for: authenticity, originality, independence, high quality, real musicians
- He hates casting shows and isn't exactly a fan of ESC either
- There won't only be complete newcomers but potentially also more known artists
- National and international producers will support the artists and help them work on their songs

Which all sounds great to me

I still don't like the idea that someone who's not a fan of eurovision (and talent shows), is running a NF which is about both of those things. :?

But it's not - which is a good thing in my book. I think it's great approach they're taking: Finding a unique artist instead of trying to cater to Eurovision.

it's not the actual NF. I think it's a great idea, kind of a more developed version of what the UK did this year. It's just who is in charge with it all.

That sounds soooo good, especially the part with the producer teams. I wish we would do the same instead of the youtube thing.

Well hopefully this process and the hosting of Eurovision by Austria will help the guy and other artists opinion of Eurovision change for the better.

Having someone who dislikes talent shows involved sounds good to me. Last thing I want is a national final that tries to ape X factor or Pop Idol. Couldn't care less about big voices. We need good songs.

It doesn't worry so much if he doesn't like Eurovision. He probably dislikes the clicheed europop stereotype many hold about the contest. What many people consider to be eurovision style is often awful.
