Austria is like the only country who started taking Eurovision seriously after winning, it's weird :')

I think they've always been serious until 2003. Then they didn't care anymore until Lena won, I guess, only to end up discouraged until Conchita rose like a phoenix y'all

I'd also hold that they're the first country since Germany who hadn't already seen success before their victory.

To be fair it's not like Denmark, Sweden, Azerbaijan, etc, didn't take it seriously already, and it's not like Germany doesn't take it seriously now.

The Eurovision cake is made of party, schlagerpop and ballads. Austria starts to realize you got to be the icing on the cake in order to win this.

My point is that Austria have only started putting in effort now they've won, where in most cases a win follows such an effort

Well, their 2011 bid looked like a lot of effort, by 2012, 2013 and 2014 they put in less effort every year. They were just lucky Conchita and her manager wanted to join Eurovision so badly and at their own expense, otherwise they would have pulled this year for a long time. I wondered why so many ORF folks gathered on Conchita's couch in the green room.

So, it's not like they were never keen on winning, because they were in 2011 and at least they were in 2000 and 2002 as well. But Austrians seem easily fed up and discouraged. Number one or I be gone....

Nevertheless, I appreciate their ambition, which can only help improve Eurovision as a whole and give it a little more credit in the music industry. Let's see for how long they can keep up their spirits.

On the other hand, Sweden for instance seems to be addicted to Eurovision, but when it comes to their Melody festival, it's just a huge pile of schlager crap. I'd rather see a final with 10 perfect songs, like Austria 2011, than all rounds of MF with an underwhelming final with a clear favourite and darkhorse. Quality over quantity please!

While Austria did put in a reasonable effort in in 2011, I wouldn't say it was 10 songs of incredible quality. They had Trackshittaz, Nadine and one other half decent one in the superfinal. That was about it. It was ok, but certainly no better than your average Western European national final. It was on a par with the likes of Switzerland and that's hardly a model to aspire to.

This seems a much bigger and more serious effort than anything they've done before. Those two songs Anselm posted earlier are fantastic. I'm really getting excited that Austria could produce a show to challenge the likes of Eesti Laul and UMK.

I think Charlee and Klimmstein were pretty good in 2011 as well.

And also in 2012 there was a good NF, but with the wrong winner. A shame that !Deladap had to pull out their fantastic song.

It would have been an amazing performance with those street dancers supporting them.

2013 was pretty poor, the Bandaloop were my favourite but their live performance was horrific.

I liked that they have chosen three different artists as coaches. Maybe we can hear a hip hop entry.

Since I pick my favorites purely based on the Song Title only, I am throwing my support behing Open Heart Surgery.
