Some news:

Male hockey:
Canada blasted Norway with 8-0, and this is an expected result, even though in the first period the result was 0-0.
Russia - Latvia 8-2, this is another expected result.
USA - Switzerland 3-1, well USA isn't that strong candidate for the gold, but they did win this game!

From the female hockey matches:
Canada overpowered Switzerland with 10-1. It seems the gold medal is upon reach here! :D In the same group Sweden defeated Slovakia with 6-2 and secured place in the semi-finals.
In the other group, USA was too strong for Russia, winning 13-0  and Finland barely won over China with 2-1! Both Finland and USA will play in the semi-finals, likely a Canada-USA final game for the women's hockey!

Canada earned another gold, this time in snowboarding (women). And this was a great accomplishment as her first qualification time wasn't good at all. On her second try she grabbed the 3rd position. In the final event, she grabbed the gold!

In the male skating program, Plushenko has a slight lead over an American and a Japanese guy. (Plushenko was on ESC 2008, just to give you a heads up).

Oh god, looks like this olympic games is going to get a very bad grade for safety and to a degree in organisation after the events of biathlon yesterday and with that awful crash of our representative Anja Pärsson just a few hours ago.

Finland defeated Belarus with 5-1 in men's hockey! Finland overpowered them! I watched the game and it seems that the Finns are heading this year for the gold along with Canada and in-turbo-gear Russia! :D In the other group, Sweden won 2-0 over Germany.

In women's hockey, Canada destroyed Sweden with 13-1 and really we should get the gold here! :D

Latvia and Slovenia managed to grab their first medals on these Olympic Games. Latvia grabbed a silver medal in luge double, Slovenia earned a bronze in women's cross-country.

I am so happy! Finally some good news to Finland :)

As Aletem said, Finland won Belarus 5-1 in mens hockey. I thought they played rather good but still they have to play better if they want a chance for the gold. I still remember how sad I felt in Torino 2006 when Finland lost the goldgame against Sweden. I say that now it is Finland's turn to take the gold. Did you know that Finland has 5 silvermedals since our one and only gold 1995? So it should be about time!!!! :) We may not have the best inviduals but we have a TEAM! Everyone knows each other so well and I just want our "old" players like Saku Koivu, Teemu Selanne and Jere Lehtinen achieve something big before finishing playing ice hockey. I mean, Selanne will be 40 this year!

We also took our first medal in these olympics. :) Peetu Piiroinen silver in mens snowboarding. People here in Finland were already getting a bit depressed... but now we have a first one and we can relax a bit!

Go Peetu!!! GO Finland!!!

I was a bit worried about Finland not getting a medal till this. I still hope Ahonen could grab a gold in ski-jumping (long jumps) and in the team competition. As far as the hockey goes, I think they really did well against Belarus. The Belorussian team is not Norway, Latvia or Germany. So a win of 5-1 says a lot. Hagman was a positive surprise for me, and so was Ruutu. (I know the old wolves such as Jokinen, Peltonen, Koivu, Salo, Lehtinen, Selanne). If Finland keeps playing well, a medal should be guaranteed for them. :D

Also in the last match of yesterday's hockey program, Czech Republic won the battle of Czechoslovakia. They defeated Slovakia with 3-1. Slovakia will play tonight against Russia in the same time. Also today, Canada is a big favorite against Switzerland and so is USA against Norway.

Women's hockey:
USA - Finland 6-0 judging by the results, it seems that Canada - USA will be the final in women's hockey. In the semi-finals, Canada will play Finland, while USA will take on Sweden.
Russia - China 2-1

Men's hockey:
USA - Norway 6-1, An expected result over here. I still think that team USA does not have the capacity to grab gold on these Olympic Games. A medal is possible though.
Canada - Switzerland 2-2 (3-2 over time). Disappointing, but from my perspective a pretty much expected result. If Canada cannot beat Switzerland, well they can wave goodbye to their dream to reach a gold at home soil. Canada has now 5 points, 1 behind USA (they collected 2 against Switzerland, as a victory after over time counts as 2 points). Switzerland has 1 point earned tonight, while Norway can hope not to loose with a big difference against the Swiss in their last match.

Also, Plushenko did not win a gold medal. :? He missed by 1 point, behind Lysacek from USA. Maybe this comes as a bad luck from Dima Bilan's decision to participate again on ESC.  Both skaters did really well, it was just who scored more bonus points.

Some hockey results:

After Russia lost from Slovakia in overtime (1-2), they won over the Czech Republic with 4-2 and are first in their group. Slovakia had no troubles defeating Latvia with 6-0.
Now:
Canada - USA 3:5   xrofl3 xrofl3 This Canadian team couldn't beat Switzerland (won 3-2 after an overtime) and now they lost from USA. The Americans aren't that great challenge.
Norway - Switzerland 4-4 (4-5 after an overtime)
Standings:
1. USA 9 pts (goes through the quarterfinals)
2. Canada 5 pts
3. Switzerland 3 pts.
4. Norway 1pt.
Group-2
1. Russia 7pts. (goes through the quarterfinals)
2. Czech Republic 6pts.
3. Slovakia 5pts.
4. Latvia 0pts.
In group 3, Belarus won over Germany with 5-3. The game between Suomi and Sverige will begin in an hour.

More hockey news and updates!
Sweden defeated Finland with 3-0 in the last game of the preliminary round. Both Sweden and Finland continue to the quarterfinals. There will be some play-off games played first and then the 1/4-finals

Play off games and 1/4-finals
Switzerland - Belarus; The winner of this game will play against USA in the 1/4-final (QR 1)
Czech Republic - Latvia; The winner of this game will play against Finland in the 1/4-final (QR 2)
Slovakia - Norway; Winner of this game will play against Sweden in the 1/4-final (QR 3)
Canada - Germany; Winner of this game will play against Russia in the 1/4-final   (QR-4), one will go home early

So in the semi-finals it will be QR 1 vs. QR 2 and QR 3 vs. QR 4

My guess is that USA - Finland will be the semi-final (I believe that the Finns lost from Sweden on purpose, so they can skip Russia and Canada in the further matches)
And the other semi will likely be Sweden - Russia, I don't think Canada will do well. Not against Russia!

Canada defeated Germany with 8-2! Also Switzerland barely defeated Belarus on penalties with 3-2. Czechs also barely won over Latvia with 3-2 after an overtime.

In women's hockey, Canada defeated Finland with 5-0 in the semi-finals and USA defeated Sweden with 9-1. Canada and USA will play in the final. I think Canada will win here surely. :D
So far Canada is 1 gold medal behind Germany and USA. I am counting on the women's hockey and both curling national teams. :D

The 1/4 final hockey games are over and there are some unexpected results:

USA - Switzerland 2:0, USA goes through in a hard game against the Swiss. They beat them for a second time on these games. And so far they are the only team with no lost game.
Finland - Czech Republic 2:0, Wow what an exciting game was that. Finns scored their first goal in the third period, just 8-9 minutes before the end of the game. Their last goal came in the last minute. Finland played with patience and grace and deserved to pass to the semi final, where they would hit on USA. Go Finland! :D
Canada - Russia 7:3, This was a surprise for me. Canada played their best game this season and after beating Germany with 8-2, this time it was big Russia's turn. Well done Canada!!!
Sweden - Slovakia 3:4, Another surprise!  Slovakia got the Swedish scalp! I am not that surprised as Sweden played one good game, against Finland, so they didn't really impress on the other matches. Can Slovakia now beat Canada?? They already beat Russia once at an overtime and I believe they are a very capable team. :p

The semi-final games are:
Finland - USA
Canada - Slovakia

Some more news! Canada had an exploding two days where we reached 4 gold medals and some silvers and bronze along. :D
Firstly, Sweden defeated Canada in women's curling with 7-6 after an overtime. The game for a curling match was more exciting than watching a Champion's league penalty shoot-out in soccer.  It was that intense!

Canada won the gold in women's hockey team defeating USA with 2-0!! :D

In the men's hockey semi-finals:
USA - Finland 6-1, I am surprised! USA outplayed the Finns.
Canada - Slovakia 3-2, Which means Canada is getting a medal and we are hoping it will be a golden color all over it!!  Canadians got their job seriously in the past few games!

Right now Canada leads with the most gold medals (10 so far)! :D  These are definitely the most successful Olympic games for Canada. Vancouver brought Canada much luck! More gold medals please!! :D
