lol, I also woke up early (at 4:00) :)
They invited all my fave performers: Sarah McLachlan, Loreena McKennitt, Nelly Furtado. I'm wondering if Alanis & Avril will be on the Closing Ceremony.
I relally liked the 2nd part... all those effects and professional dancers )))
The torch  :D

Great show indeed. The loss of a live, especially at such a young age is always devistating. The death of the luger tempered the opening ceremony but I hope that all nations will still enjoy this experience and I wish every country the best of luck!

I watched the whole ceremony (here it was 21:00  ). It was great, there were some flaws. Like the part when the last ice from the ground did not pop out due to hydraulic problems. All the 5 athletes were suppose to light the fire inside. As for Gretsky, nobody knew who will light the main torch (the one outside) and it was a surprise until the last moment. Although, in the polls he and Rick Hansen were the favourites to light the main torch. As far as the organization, it was great. I did like the 3D effects and Donald Sutherland telling us nice stories. :D  (His voice is epic!). I think that Bryan and Nelly could have sang a better song than that one and Kd Lang went way too far singing Hallelujah!  It was a unique opening, quite interesting to watch.
And yes the death of Nodar Kumaritashvili was a tragic one. :( Here it is all over the news, even our prime minister gave an interview regarding the tragic event. I am glad that the Georgian team showed up on the walk and hopefully they will compete in the next few days. Apparently the track is way too fast and today they have shortened it so none could get hurt (the stiring is modified and the track will be slower now). The sports here could be postponed for one day.
Everything else looks great so far. Toronto will bid for 2020 and there is a high chance to get it. :D One more fact is that Canada has never earned a gold medal on home soil (neither in Calgary or Montreal), but this time we are getting a gold for sure!

Congrats to Croatia for getting their first medal on these Olympic Games! :D I remember this guy, as he was the one who carried the Croatian flag. Our commentators were unsure how to pronounce his last name (Fak like Faaaek or like Phuck). Good job, although I was hoping that Fak could snatch a silver or gold and Klemen Bauer from Slovenia to grab a bronze.
Canadians are still anxious to get their first gold on a home soil and Canadian athletes face huge pressure from the media. I hope the media will stop with their comments such as "its a disappointment, since it wasn't a gold". :?

yep, Vatroslav, I thought the same... that it wasn't Kostelic  :D
It was a 2nd surprise for me in biathlon after yesterday's Slovakian victory.

*sigh* our media overrate our sportsmen - they don't kick them enough, imo
There are some serious problems that last forever (esp in biathlon), every sportsman has the same problems which we see every damn year (constant low speed or screwed shooting) and most of them can be solved easily. I hope they will say something after the Games b/c right now it isn't the right time of course.

And Canada won their first gold medal on home soil!!!!! :D Alexandre Biladeau won a gold in men's moguls. The moguls discipline is a very interesting sport and fun to watch. I am glad that Canada won a gold here, because he deserved it. He is now known as the Canadian hero!! :D

In the other group of women's hockey matches, Finland defeated Russia with 5-1. This game was pretty much a decision of who will advance in the semi-finals and it looks like its going to be Finland. In the other game, the favorite in this group, USA, won over China with 12-1.
