Well, it's a function that usually works best on April 1st from what I hear ..

I just noticed that green "thing" under each members flag, now what does that mean? It says XXXXX is on a distinguished road...

It's called reputation. You can approve of a helpful post and increase someones reputation on the board. I am just testing it out currently. It may go away or stay, not sure yet

Below every post you should see a bar with different icons...one is a star and when you hover over it "reputation" should come up. Again, just testing right now

Just a question; it seems that threads from the Guildo's Games forum are not visible under 'What's New', which happens to be my preferred way of navigating forums. Was this done intentionally? If so, is it possible for a user to change this as a personal preference?

Hm, can you check that again tomorrow? I just checked using a dummy account and it shows up. So do me a favor and try again once a new post was made and let me know if you still can't see it.
