Sooooo lemme get this straight (pun intended): If one does not go completely nuts for this over-the-top softcore mess it means that one has internalised homophobia? My gods…
Not at all, but targetting fans of the performance and proclaiming that they need Jesus to save them and whatever other nonsense an ex-member of this forum was doing is most definitely internalised homophobia.

As a straight person, I don’t care about the "sexual" part (I neither find it appealing nor apalling). What bothers me more is that everybody criticises Sweden for staging a music video when UK clearly go for the same direction. This doesn’t feel Eurovision-y at all. It feels out of the competition. It’s just too much. Too messy. And I am not sure whether the casual viewers will buy this. I can imagine many of them saying "why is the UK exaggerating so much“. But we will see.

But then again, we can only based on that 30 sec clip that was shown, maybe the overall performance may not be all that sexual.
It's clearly a bit provocative in places but I think it would go without saying that full 3 minutes isn't going to be as 'wild' as that 30 second clip, which is from the spoken word part.

---

I still maintain that if the Olly was exchanged for a female singer, and his dancers also then the reaction wouldn't be as visceral. There is many previous examples of such that the fandom endlessly praised. Even Maruv a few years back would have been dry humping a stage had she gone and almost everyone was head over heels for that.

I am going to be blunt. I find the whole "It is too chaotic" line that is rolling out right now really rather silly. It is clear that the clip is coming towards the climax of the song, the cinematography and presentation of the entire performance isn't going to be like that for the entire performance. If it turns out that is the case throughout then sure. But for now, come on.

Fair enough. I didn't see that.

I did not see half of you guys criticising Spain in 2022 for letting Chanel shake her hypnotic booty round that stage in Turin which is what I and many others are taking issue with - let Olly be Olly! We adore him for it.

My word, maybe her booty really was hypnotic after all! If we can harness this power then no one will ever complain about the UK's staging ever again. And the BBC can finally get their money's worth out of those giant trumpets!!

With regards to Spain 2022's performance, it's alot easier to be onboard with the sexualized staging because the song warrants that and Chanel did it pretty tastefully. Plus we have the overall performance staging to gauge right from the start and Chanel gyrating with her booties out with the dancers was just a small part of the overall performance.

As for Olly, well, I would believe this kind of staging would be in line with his artistry and image.
Likely those critics are those who aren't familiar with his persona.
Again, the criticism is based on that 30sec clip that we have for now, so naturally this would be the talking point.
Maybe once we have the entire performance, then likely that 30sec provocative part would be considerably overlooked.

But I still stand by that the expressions with the tongues are off-putting and should have be toned down, because I am not sure what they are trying to achieve there and how they actually gel with the overall routine.

I can only speak for myself: I don't mind the guys being flirty and suggestive. In fact that I find a nice change of pace HOWEVER I don't like the whole setup at all. Why the need to put them in these ridiculous cheap ass gay porn outfits in a room that looks like it came straight out of a SAW movie? Really gives the whole idea of men loving men a dirty/filthy stamp. That's is what makes me feel uncomfortable. One could have just went more into the direction of the music video. Maybe with just Olly and another dancer interacting in a passionate way. That would have been somewhat daring and much more tasteful.

I do agree with you in some sense with the decisions made on the staging concept.
But maybe what you have suggested would not have cause such an outroar, which I believe Olly is aiming for the shock value.
Anyway, I doubt he cares what the detractors said about the staging.
People in the industry knows this kind of attention is good for the entry overall, rather than having a lukewarm response that no one cares.

I like it.

And I don't care if straight or gay people are bothered.

Actually, I even don't try to persuade anyone else to like it, it's enough for me to like it.

If some people are bothered by this presentation, it's not my problem.

If it was something that is 🚫, EBU wouldn't allow them to do it in that way.

So, make peace ✌️

I don't know. I get the point about Chanel's outfit, it was at the edge of being too revealing. But after all :es: didn't show us a softporn performance. Maybe I'd also be more okay with :uk: staging if it didn't have that demon-ish touch?! Like wtf, why are those facial expressions and that tongue needed? Okay obviously it wants to be provocative in the strongest possible way but for what? If I were a "classic gay Eurovision fan" I'd probably feel even offended by the cliché gay touch this staging has.

Chanel was cheap. This seems a bit weird and sexual but who cares. Be gay, have sex, whatever. It's 2024 and it's Eurovision. I'm a straight male too but let's not be prudish. Go to church and go look for your inner Ezio if you can't take this.
