In past years, while there have been some bad winners, it can't be said that their songs didn't contain an epic element. "Dizzy" has nothing epic about it and I honestly see the British fans' overconfidence in the staging as a wake-up call. The reasons? I'll summarize them:
On Sam Ryder many British people didn't understand that much of the success of "SpaceMan" (which he didn't win but came second in a drug competition) came mostly from Sam's personality which filled and pushed a good musical product (we're not talking about of a masterpiece).
- To hope for staging with this fervor is to have unconsciously accepted that "Dizzy" has nothing to give.
- As Ayzelto says, there are 36 delegations that will work on the staging and there are expert nations that every year with experience focus on that as a strong point.
- We forget that 2024 is an edition with few ballads and consequently crazier and more dynamic. Even just the madness of "Europapa" will be enough to overshadow "Dizzy".
- Can someone explain to me what is meant by staging? There is no sure formula for success, much less a staging that can lead an average product to victory. The best package always wins, not just one element.
I hope I'm wrong, I'm sincere and perhaps as painful as a wax tear, but here we have a potential bottom 5. If Olly gets even the smallest detail wrong, British fans will experience a surprising "LOTL Effect" on their musical soul.
God bless your words, friendListening to "Dizzy," I can see the middle 8 section of the song being the epic part of the performance, if you listen carefully, that part of the song ends abruptly and I think there will be an extended part of the song because there is still another 10 seconds left of the song until 3 minutes.
The Eurofans wanted a bigger name to represent the UK, not some unknown, amateur, and now we have. And I believe Olly Alexander and his team will prove Eurofans right for the UK to finally start sending credible, professional artists with highly polished, expensive sounding, modern songs. "Dizzy" is not going bottom 5, it's ridiculous to me that this is even suggested.
The difference is when the UK was bottom 5 in the past, we deserved to be there, because the songs was either very old-fashioned and too cheesy, or like last year we had a weak performer who was out of their depth on the big Eurovision stage.I do think bottom 5 predictions are on the harsh side, but expected given the UK’s recent love (Sam Ryder aside) for that region of the leaderboard.
When Olly was announced in December, I did think a top 10 was quite achievable given his ability to sell a song. Since Dizzy has come out, I am leaning more towards the 12th-16th range finish which isn’t bad of course but a little disappointing.
With the right staging, we could get to 10th imo, but I don’t think we’re making it into the top 10 which is a shame, but it would still be an improvement on Mae. That’s the key thing, showing to the wider UK public we’re making progress.
I hope the staging elevates the song. I like it as it is, but I’m not wowed. We need a wow moment (or two) to capture viewers’ attention in May.
I fully agree. Our bottom 5 placings were totally justified. I still like the recorded version of Embers (to a point! The difference is when the UK was bottom 5 in the past, we deserved to be there, because the songs was either very old-fashioned and too cheesy, or like last year we had a weak performer who was out of their depth on the big Eurovision stage.
"Dizzy" is a quality pop song with top, top production and we have a great talented performer. Plus the song is very British sounding and sounds authentic to Olly, definitely not manufactured. For me I'm just excited by the level of potential in the UK entry this year, it reminds me of the good times of 2022 with Sam Ryder.
I think Olly will have full creative control especially with his experience of putting on huge stage shows in arenas bigger than Malmö Arena and at Glastonbury
Olly's experience of live TV performances is unmatched; ranging from a slot at the BRIT Awards to hosting and performing an entire concert during a prime time BBC slot at New Year's. He'll be absolutely fine!Perhaps. But playing a live consert and putting on a three-minute-ESC-spectacle are two quite different beasts...

He debuts at 5 on the official big top 40
Also apparently hes heading for a top 20 debut inside the official charts
Wait, why is murder on the dancefloor with Sophie Ellis Bextor on the list? That song is over 20 years old? What have I missed?
She's had a revival in her career since the pandemic in the uk because she kept doing livestreams on Facebook of her kitchen disco but this most recent success is because murder was featured in Netflix's SaltburnWait, why is murder on the dancefloor with Sophie Ellis Bextor on the list? It's in the final scene in the movie Saltburn, which was released on Amazon Prime and was quite popular. Which in turn made the song go viral.Wait, why is murder on the dancefloor with Sophie Ellis Bextor on the list? That song is over 20 years old? What have I missed?
