:7: for now - it's not tailored for ESC and that's why I like it - it's authentic and catchy but it's not really memorable or impressive, imo - even though the production is top-notch.
It's a Years & Years song, imo - and they've been quite "above average but not fully amazing" for me anyway - I like it, though and it might get upgraded to :8: in the end but I don't think it will enter my personal Top 10.

I'm floating between a :6: and a :7: - it's a definite step up from previous years, and the production quality is excellent, but as others have said, it lacks a "powerful moment" where it takes things to the next level, something that would be needed to stand a chance of being competitive.

I'm sure Olly will be able to pull off an impressive stage performance however, and if nothing else I admire his genuine enthusiasm and passion for the contest!

What can I say about :uk: 2024?? It "exists"?? xthink

I´m sorry but for me this was pretty much a non-event, waited the whole time for something exciting to happen but it always stayed on the same level musically. Highs and lows?? Nope!! The fact that I´m still not a big fan of his voice doesn´t help either.

In the end I give mediocre :4:, this will mabye get some jury support but in the televote I can see it flop since it´s just too uneventful. I also don´t think the name Olly Alexander will be such a big boost because outside of :uk: and :ie: he´s more or less a one-hit wonder from almost a decade ago.

Please BBC, don't destroy this with horrible staging... You got a good thing going this year, don't mess this up.
I think Olly will have full creative control especially with his experience of putting on huge stage shows in arenas bigger than Malmö Arena and at Glastonbury

I'm not concerned about staging at all. Olly and his team have got this, they will know exactly what to do to have that maximum impact and to get people wowed and vote for the UK.
From what I remember, the UK's delegation have said not only are they aiming for a Number 1 song in the UK but they want to win Eurovision.
Olly's a fan of Eurovision and will know you have to have that something extra and special in the performance to be a winner, the UK has a fantastic pop song, an experienced, creative performer and now we just need to wait for for the impressive staging in May.

It’s good the UK has got the performance in mind, but there are other 36 delegations with other stagings in their minds that could be as good as Olly’s. That’s what we expect in Eurovision: great performances that individually make a great show.

However, the most important thing, in my opinion, is having a good and competitive song and, above all, a song that resonates inside the country. Unfortunately, and after debuting in a modest 74th place in the Spotify UK charts one day after its release, it has already left the top 200 on its second day. For such a big artist and record label behind, it is not a good sign to start with… but we will see.

There is plenty of promotional opportunities to go for this song - we've not seen any live performance of this one yet, and I think we know from previous work from Olly that even in small studio sets, he tries to bring an immersive and unique performance to every show, so I think the Saturday Night Takeaway performance next Saturday will be really interesting to see.

I say good on him for bringing his true self to Eurovision with a song he was including on his album first and foremost rather than trying to do a "written for Eurovision" thing as that would be embarrassing...

But jeez, this year is STACKED, so performance is definitely going to be a key factor in drawing in those votes - 2024 quickly becoming one of my favourite years in a long time, with very few songs I really dislike so far. RIP my easy job at ranking my Top 10 xfaint

I have a feeling that the staging for this one at the contest is going to involve a rotating stage, at least one, what else will be on there I don't know. But given the UK's love for big props (that totally aren't to help secure a better running order position wherever they are drawn) I can see that being the case.

In past years, while there have been some bad winners, it can't be said that their songs didn't contain an epic element. "Dizzy" has nothing epic about it and I honestly see the British fans' overconfidence in the staging as a wake-up call. The reasons? I'll summarize them:
  1. To hope for staging with this fervor is to have unconsciously accepted that "Dizzy" has nothing to give.
  2. As Ayzelto says, there are 36 delegations that will work on the staging and there are expert nations that every year with experience focus on that as a strong point.
  3. We forget that 2024 is an edition with few ballads and consequently crazier and more dynamic. Even just the madness of "Europapa" will be enough to overshadow "Dizzy".
  4. Can someone explain to me what is meant by staging? There is no sure formula for success, much less a staging that can lead an average product to victory. The best package always wins, not just one element.
On Sam Ryder many British people didn't understand that much of the success of "SpaceMan" (which he didn't win but came second in a drug competition) came mostly from Sam's personality which filled and pushed a good musical product (we're not talking about of a masterpiece).

I hope I'm wrong, I'm sincere and perhaps as painful as a wax tear, but here we have a potential bottom 5. If Olly gets even the smallest detail wrong, British fans will experience a surprising "LOTL Effect" on their musical soul.

Personally, I think that staging is overvalued by Eurovision fans, however, good staging can help elevate an otherwise mediocre song or at least make it a little more memorable, and in a final of 24 other nations that can help. It won't be the thing that wins it, however. And as I have said previously I think that this song is missing something. Maybe that something will be added in/added back in towards the contest itself. And I hope that is the case. As there is a part of me that feels that this is more inline with the UK's typical entries than a lot of people are willing to accept. Sure, it doesn't sound like an X Factor winner's song, but it sounds just as nice and enjoyable as many of the songs the UK has put through that have landed in the bottom five, not because they are bad, but because they are just nice and that is it.

I hope I am wrong, but it feels like there is no momentum to this one to make me feel like it will end anywhere near the left-hand side of the board.
