Not to be mean but I can't imagine Mae Muller was TaP/BBC's first choice, probably Rina and some other artists said no. Also a bit surprised Olly Alexander wasn't rumored/considered since the choice was between him (and Years & Years?) against Sam Smith last year

This is still a major step-up from the usual :uk: entries we've had. I don't know how well it'll do, but as just a pop song, I really like this. Good job, UK.

If I have to compare, this is better than Unicorn. If I have to compare more, Teya & Salena both ate them up.

:10:
Yeah, these three songs give me the same vibes, too. They could steal votes from each other imo. If I had to compare the bops I would say Austria > Israel > UK ( > Poland) but all three are great. I just hope they don't perform close to each other.

I can’t think she would have been anyone’s first choice at all but here we are. Mae said in her interview that she’s known for 2 months which makes it seem like they had her lined up pretty early on which does seem odd.

I'd have a similar ranking, although for me it's:

Austria >>>> UK > Israel >>> Poland. Israel's entry is more ambitious than the UK's but it's a mess. I Wrote a Song isn't great but it knows what it is and is easier to listen to.

Austria is a masterpiece.

Say what you like but it's been playing in my head since release.

Will it compete with Sam's success last year? Probably not, but with good staging, good marketing before the show and tiktok, i think perhaps the Brits are doing what they do best and being overly negative.

Is it a coping mechanism after the last few decades of the UK at Eurovision? Haha

Oh god, the full thing is absolutely dreadful, it's worse than I thought.

I'm so disappointed. I allowed myself to get so swept up in the rumours and that's on me but I really feel crushed, one step forward, a million steps back, it's so trashy. I think even Solo is better, those lyrics, OMG!

My song fell at the first hurdle, so I assumed the chosen song would be better...I'm not sure if it is.

The music base reminds me of SloMo, it’s catchy. Although I am not a fan of her nasal voice and the song itself isn’t something new, I appreciate the different approach the UK has taken this time. 7 points and it may grow on me.

Cheaper version of a songs from tiktok/shazam/spotify top where lack of lyrics is compensated by some dududu/lalala/pam-ram parts. I'm not against such songs but this UK song is a little bit messy and a hook is not strong enough. It's definitely not a top5 song but if they don't find out their trumpets again (or something worse in staging) it's shouldn't be a bottom 5 either. :6: for now.

So, my initial thoughts after listening to it fully for the first time. I quite like it, it isn't my kind of music, but I know this kind of music is kind of in right now. And it feels like something that has a better chance of getting picked up on Tik Tok and getting radio play for more reasons than just "It is the Eurovision entry". Part of me is kind of glad it is this one because I woke up this morning with the chorus in my head from the snippet we heard last night and it would have been hard to switch gears after that.

It has a lot of potential, Muller might be the first act from the UK in the longest time that can actually do something resembling dancing. This could go big on Tik Tok and if it does, and given how much the EBU has been pushing that angle, it could do well. Though that does feel like putting a lot of eggs in one basket.

I kind of get the feeling TaP/BBC saw how well the Junior act did with the public last year and wanted to get something similar to that in the hopes that will work (seeing as it did win the public vote after all). Maybe it will? I feel the harshest critics are the UK's own, and even then just within the Eurovision fan bubble. Plus Spaceman hardly set the world on fire when it was announced; Embers spent a good two and half weeks in the UK Youtube trending top ten, Spaceman barely squeaked into the top twenty for four days yet went on to almost win.

If the long-term goal of TaP/BBC is to sell Eurovision to the casual viewer in the UK then a song in this realm is the better way to go if they want to say "No, no, Eurovision isn't twee pop songs, it is contemporary stuff too". How well this will land in the end I don't know. Again, I'm not a fan of this kind of music, and I don't know what their plans are. I get a feeling she was selected for more than just being "Safe", I feel there might be a strategy here. What that is we might well see. At least, I hope there is!
