It sounds a little strange, and probably doesn't make much sense, but looking at all the UK entries in the recent years they all look like pre-televoting era ESC. The staging, everything just feels not up to date enough to attract televoters. You can transport them to the 90s, or in some cases earlier, and they wouldn't be out of place at all musically or staging wise. With the likes of Molly and Jake and Joe they only go half way and not all the way, five steps instead of the needed ten. There needs to be a major modernization revolution in the BBC ESC department.

It seems that is the key!

Thank you UK jury for 2 points!! xlove xheart

I never expected that the only jury points in the final for Serbia, outside Ex Yugoslavia and Balkan will come from the UK! :D

I think the UK will do good next year, it's time for them, this year was the french turn..hahah

I think the UK has to give up on novelty, "contemporary pop"... We need to find a really good folk band from Scotland... An up and coming Northern Irish guitarist... An English/Welsh classicist... Something not cheap or manufactured but warm and inspiring... Good music, with a nod to our national instruments/musical style, killer vocals and actual legit staging.

Or send some heartfelt Morris-dancing inspired grime.

You have just hit the very large nail on the head with a massive hammer.

If you're looking for an authentic, excellent artist that would fit the bill then look no further than http://www.kathryntickell.com/home

We need a credible artist who isn't commercially well-known in the hope that the exposure gained from Eurovision may convince him/her/them to take a punt at it. If they needed any convincing that the contest is changing they need look no further than Jamala.

Glad someone else agrees! I like your suggestion, although maybe something a little more upbeat... In my mind Seth Lakeman would be a great choice:

Funnily enough, although I dislike the song, the performance was quite enjoyable. Completely the opposite from last year, when the song was good but the performance ruined it

They couldn't do good at all though, it was just too weak.

The boys came 5th in our "national jury" in my living room. Would have been a better result... and more deserved. I voted for this twice, but it came 13th on our televote. :( It's harder than it might seem, getting points in Eurovision.

They are too cheap though, I don't think it will happen. The best you'll see are some cheap looking fireworks like in that performance.

Welp... This song came out on top in my post-Eurovision ranking. It was my 3rd fave after Italy and Sweden before... But Joe & Jake had a better performance tbh. So I conclude it as my fave of 2016... now next to Ukraine and Israel. :D xlove

With me too it ended top, and the Italian second. The Swedish song was never a favourite of mine though.
