Starting to wonder if the BBC actually ever want to win again. Friend from Ireland said the other day after they failed that realistically Ireland couldnt afford to host a contest and I think that's the same thoughts with the BBC. If they send someone semi decent, get a top 15 then the country will be happy, rather than going out to win.

They really really need to do something serious next year, we've wallowed around the bottom for nearly 20 years now (next year will be 20 since Katrina), either send a good singer songwriter, or something of our culture that isn't usually reflected (folk anyone? Netherlands country songs are going down a treat).

As someone else said earlier, starting to get fed up with seeing our country being dragged through the mud and the joke of Eurovision really is starting to hurt us a lot and backfire.

Fair play to J&J though, did what they could, can't fault them their still young and I hope it doesn't hurt their careers.

That's the silliest excuse for their incompetence.

The BBC have bigger fish to fry the next couple of years with dealing with their funding and all the changes. So expect business as usual next year.

Deserved higher than 24th, which was the same spot they got last year.
Performance was a bit boring though.

Thanks to all the juries and everyone who voted for Ukraine. I am convinced that Eurovision 2017 in Ukraine ( Lviv, Kyiv, Odessa) will be gorgeous!

you're welcome

I think the UK's problem is that if the UK song can't even make the top 100 in our music chart then how the hell can we expect Europe to vote for it. We need to start sending classic pop songs, people in the UK still talk about Gina G's song Ooh Aah... Just a little bit which was a number one hit in the UK but that was 20 years ago, ok it came 8th in the end and probably would have done better if televoting was included then but my point is we need to start sending UK hits not amateur songs.
Or it's simply that the BBC does not give a f**k and does not want to spend money on hosting Eurovision so the UK will always be doomed.

I think the UK has to give up on novelty, "contemporary pop"... We need to find a really good folk band from Scotland... An up and coming Northern Irish guitarist... An English/Welsh classicist... Something not cheap or manufactured but warm and inspiring... Good music, with a nod to our national instruments/musical style, killer vocals and actual legit staging.

Or send some heartfelt Morris-dancing inspired grime.

3 of the big 5 bottom 5 again. They need to be made to perform in the semi-finals, regardless of financial contribution. They aren't bringing enough to the table. Being competitors in the semi will force them to up their act or they won't even be in the big dance on Saturday.

I hope MyHeartIsYours didn't die of a heart attack

But still, expected result. As I said before, it's a nice little song, sung by two lads enjoying to be on the stage, but the song was definitly not offensive enough. Anyway, I wanted the UK to get some higher final result, but not as low as what they got. between 15th and 20th would have been fairer.

For the UK, I'd say look into Australia's strategy. Second year in a row they have finished in the top 5. Novelty may or may not be a factor, but both Guy and Dami Im had strong vocals on their side. Dami literally sat down for 2/3 of her performance. Strong vocals alone can carry you, along with a very catchy or meaningful song.
Well i was shocked when Australia took such a lead as they did, because for me it was a very bland song with nothing going for it

That's what expectation will do. Before rehearsals, this was considered bottom 5, but a decent stage show and vocals was enough for people to believe it might actually do well. But the song never improved. That was always the issue. People are more sad now than they would have been 2 weeks ago.

I think the UK needs to find something a little different next year, perhaps sending an entry in a celtic language would be an interesting choice. Or actually sending something worthy of winning would be a nice change . That's probably the issue actually, we send material in hopes that it'll get the left side of the board.. whereas countries like Sweden/Russia/Ukraine consistently send songs in hopes of winning the contest.

Nope that isn't true, it's been out for several weeks before Eurovision started. I've just looked it up and it was released on 11th March.
