I'm sure I read somewhere or saw an interview where Bonnie herself was even shocked they chose that song in particular.

well she should of said something then, as shes the singer i'm sure she would of carried some leverage in which song she would sing because she would know which song would be the best choice for her.

Well I'm sure she would like to think that all the songs were "the best choice for her" simply because they made it on the album, hopefully they thought all songs were good. :D

She probably had the belief that they knew better in picking the song then she did. After all they got years of ESC experience and she's just doing it one year.

Maybe she had other songs on it that she liked better and that's why she was shocked they picked that one, cause she thought others would share her opinion. But still she could have spoken up if she thought there were better choices. xshrug

One thing that confuses me is they hire Bonnie Tyler simply because she is well known but forgot that with a well known name comes an associated sound. When people think of Bonnie Tyler they think of overblown explosive pop-rock. The last thing they think of is mellow pop-country, so many are disappointed right off the bat.

They hire someone they want people to vote for off name alone and then stick that person with a song that goes against the signature sound everyone associates with them. What's they point then?

I know Bonnie can no longer sing like she use to but there must have been a song off the album (I never heard the whole thing) that at least sounds reminiscent of her former glory days. For example "All I Ever Wanted" may be watered down but it still had traces of the old Bonnie and a much harder edge.

Very true. As we all know, the BBC don't really put a lot of effort into it and pick songs for the most ridiculous reasons. Like Believe in Me was picked for its name. xrofl3 However as you put her vocals are not that great as they use to be, and even with a rather mundane song she wasn't spectacular live on stage. I would go as far as messing it up completely in the opening lines. The part when the tone of the song and how is it received is set.

You don't win ESC by being friendly.

BBC usually go for that cliche name for a song, just look at past entries "Even if" "It's My Time" "I can" "Love will set you free" It's all very similar with the trend they take, and that's because ESC occasionally tend to be about Love, and world peace etc. So the BBC adopt that with unoriginal junk like the names above; and the BBC don't pull it off with the songs either.

Looking at the titles of past UK entries cliché names about love/world peace have been pretty common since the 70s have they not? They really are out of date

Yet strangely this is the same broadcaster that sent Gina G in 1996 xshock1. I was just reliving that year and I'm laughing my head off because she is so out of place among all those other entries. Gina's shaking her hips in a tight short dress and the dancers are on speed but everyone else is practically covered from head to toe singing ballads xrofl2. And to top it all off you see the audience sitting in their seats wearing suits and ties xrofl. She was so far ahead of her time its not even funny. What happened to that UK???

Shame he was a peadophile.....

Well, thats kind of made it a bit awkward...

^^^
Well that makes sense. There's always ONE guy that actually gives a **** and when they leave it goes down the crapper

Usual pattern, he should trained one of the lesser ESC people to love eurovision or something...

Looked up what? the Pedo thing or Lostprophets?

if its the pedo thing i'm surprised you haven't heard about the scandal around Jimmy Saville and other british celebrities that have accused of being pedophiles. There are loads under investigation.

I definitely knew about Jimmy Saville and heard about a British singer named Ian Watkins awhile ago but I didn't know he was in Lostprophets xdoh.

There appears to be quite a few British celebs accused so when I see the titles I just shake my head and quickly move on. I didn't want to know any of the details but when I typed Lostprophets it was impossible, the headline and first line shown gives all the gruesome details I can take :(.

I had completely forgot he was in the lostprophets - the whole thing is just shocking with how prolific it is amongst our celebrities in the UK. I think Ian Watkins is particularly disturbing because people actually offered up their babies to him...

Anyway its just plain disgusting and not a very nice topic. I don't like to hear or read about it but its pretty much unavoidable on our news. I bet the the BBC are fretting over which oldie they pick for ESC just in case they end up caught up in the scandal. Guess it will be another female just to be on the safe side.

I still believe they should ask MKS/Sugababes 1.0. Their a prime example of an artist who has absolutely NOTHING to lose by entering ESC. When all is said and done their basically in the same boat as Bonnie although their younger and nowhere near as famous or iconic. They do have the ability to be seen as hip and current enough for the televote as well as vocally talented enough for the jury!

I mean all the hype/goodwill they got when they announced their reunion (which they wasted) is long gone. Their comeback single flopped and their album (if it ever gets released which I doubt it will) is certain to flop too. The album is basically sitting at the record label collecting dust, why not just use a song from that? What do they currently have, what are they going to do? Are they just going to tour as some legacy act until they can't stand each other anymore?

There is no excuse for them to turn down ESC if ever asked. Their currently getting zero press and zero chart/sales success. Their already seen as failures so ESC isn't going to ruin any reputation or future possibilities. In fact the publicity from doing ESC could be a second bite of the apple, cause lord knows they need it.
