I am surprised (and pleased) to actually see some of the media waking upto the fact that the BBC is continually making a mockery of the whole thing and has no idea whatsoever what they are doing. Yet again the BBC fail to promote the song around Europe, yet again they send someone who is out of touch, and yet again they send someone whose voice just isn't upto the job. I actually thought we should have finished last given the staging, bonnie's vocals and running order.

So how to change things for the future. I propose this!

Remain with an internal selection for the artist but have the song chosen by the public.

The artist could pick one song themselves and an open selection for songs from both amateur and professional songwriters could be held (perhaps for 1 month, october?). Choose one professional and one amateur (BBC, previous representatives and jury members & Artist could pick them). Have all 3 revealed, one per week, or per month on BBC Radio (1 or 2) and have a radio poll. Then in march or February have a special edition of Eurovision: Your Country Needs You. All 3 performed, interspersed with interviews with artist, previous artists, writers, show archive footage of previous contests, show fans around the country then have a 15 minute voting period for public. Have a jury judge all 3 songs too. Combine public vote, jury and radio poll to find the winner.

Given Ana's comments during her commentary of the semi-finals she is the last person I want representing the uk. Was it just me or did anyone else find BBC's commentry teams this year to be totally out of line with the attitudes and remarks about other countries. I thought they were downright rude for the most part.

Three things need to happen next year if we want to do well, and it wouldn't be too far-fetched for the BBC to achieve.

1) Get a good, MODERN singer
2) Get them to sing a song the general public wouldn't be embarassed to buy (the UK entry hasn't charted well since Flying The Flag)
3) Promote it around Europe and in the UK to get the British public behind him/her/them

If the BBC do this then success should come along. It's not like British music is never popular with Europeans, so let's act like it.

If the UK put only half as much effort into sending a proper song as they do accusing everyone else of neighbour-voting, they could win ESC with ease.

Finland -> Norway
Sweden -> Norway
Denmark -> Norway
Norway -> Sweden
Iceland -> Denmark

So don't give me that crap, Scandi boy xD But I agree with you, political voting is not that much of an obstacle for a good song!

Funny thing is we had larger support from the Balkan-countries than we did from our friends in Scandinavia. The fact that Norway won the nordic voting quite comfortably just goes to show that no one can win on block-voting alone, so no doubt UK can create a similar result if BBC actually bothered. What they need if some fresh blood, and while I'm not an ageist I really hope BBC will hire a young artist next year, ideally someone a little more current- and modern-sounding than Engelbert and Bonnie Tyler. Bonnie Tyler would've rocked the ESC-stage 20 years ago, but in 2013? Not so much. Some of the people I watched the show with even thought she sounded drunk.

Little Boots might be a way to go although I highly suspect her of sarcasm in those tweets :lol:.

She needs another hit before she is in a position to turn her nose up at ESC xD She's good in the sense that she has nothing to lose and everything to gain from her participation. And the UK. Loss of a great pop act? No way. Potential win maybe!

Trying to grab the attention of Enter Shikari and Little Boots? The BBC should really jump on these social media hypes and realise people want CURRENT stuff.

Interesting article by the BBC themselves...

He said on the Radio he was shocked the amount of people tweeted saying 'yes please' Eurovision has a strong live following. Time to give them a chance to be represented in the act picked.

Littleboots would be good. The acts are thier, the BBC just has to go after them. And a really good song would help as well.

I am posting this on here as well having posted it on Digital Spy

UKer's there is a special 'Points of View' coming up in two weeks with the director of BBC One soon to be Director of TV in general. If we ask the question in the topic 'Danny Cohen Points of View' - what are the BBC going to do about Eurovision? we may get and answer. BBC - Points Of View Messageboard - BBC Television programmes Do not post it in the Eurovision topic thread.
