I said it many times already on this forum, but it's worth repeating.

BBC need a complete different approach to this, stop treating it like some camp-fest or has-beens playground. The emphasize must lie on the song first and foremost and boost local popularity and respect for the contest, but this won't be possible as long as BBC themselves treat it like a joke.

The process of choosing the entry must change radically, I still believe that making the radio BBC1 responsible for actually picking the entry and then present it on a BBC show would be a far better solution than BBC TV themselves being responsible for the pick. UK need to pick an entry that local radio will actually support, in order to boost public interest and interest amongst good songwriters/producers and maybe even acts. However the "fame" of the act is really secondary, UK need to focus mostly on the entry really and boost popularity amongst its own population and radio programmers.

I'd like to see Jools Holland in charge of selecting our entrant. The man has the most awesome live music show on tv. It's on the BBC. He Knows about a million people from all genres of music, all of it's quality. I couldn't think of a better man to take charge. We'd become the Italy of ESC but even better. We'd have an entry to be proud of each year.

My unrealistic wishes of whom i'd like to see represent UK at Eurovision.

Marianne Faithful - I love her and could cry at the thought of her representing my country but it would be an utter disaster for her, misunderstood by the rest of Europe. I think she's incredible though. A woman that has lived. Nothing appeals to me more than a voice like hers.

Antony and the Johnsons - This would literally be my dream choice. Entering something similar to this song.. It would just blow everything else we've ever sent to the contest out of the water. No one has a soul like Antony's. Just incredible. I believe we could win with something like this as well or at the very least, share a similar fate as Rona.. But Antony would only work if live instruments/orchestra was to be allowed. Gosh I could just imagine this being played in a big Arena. You'd hear a pin drop.

The Unthanks - I'd love for us to present some of our folk music to the world. The Unthanks are a Northumberland folk band lead by two sisters. This little ditty is one of my favourites of there's. I think they would be great but would again, like all the artists I have mentioned, need a live environment.

So yeah, this is pretty much the type of music I listen to outside of ESC. It's annoying how the BBC has supported this stuff throughout the years but when it comes to Eurovision.. it's just a joke.

It would be great for wider promotion but if they have a national final they can't promote it then on the radio heavily. The BBC charter won't change it's the same for The Voice. Internals mean it's easier getting around playing the song and promoting it. I think they must have dumped a Song For Europe for promoting an acts album.

The popularity of the contest in the UK is healthier than many other countries. Nobody should say that this is what you're going to get out the contest if they tune in for a laugh fair enough, if they find a song they truely like even better. You will have people abandoning it if you try to make the change too quickly. It will take years to undo Wogan. Least now they acknowlege the background of acts and their careers.

They pretty much said on the BBC Three how to win Eurovision with the Radio 1 DJs unless the lyrics improve for UK entries and foreign entries the contest won't become part of the Radio 1 furniture anytime soon.

They need to do is get out the mindset of asking what song sounds like a typical Eurovision entry and picking songs that can be used as slogans. They're being too serious really with who they are picking these days forgetting is this act capabe of entertaining viewers in the stadium and at home in a good way. It doesn't matter if the act is old or young there are plenty of older acts that would give the younger ones a run for their money any day of the week.

I will add these seperately these are the two best articles I've seen this week

Why Eurovision needs to be saved from the BBC » The Spectator
Five Eurovision myths debunked | Television & radio | guardian.co.uk

Also seen Metro and Digital Spy this week before the 2013 Final really lay into the BBC and what they're doing. A few years ago the papers bought Wogan's it's all political they hate us but finally the press have woken up. I really hope with the press now starting to mount pressure to send a good song they actually do.

I want the BBC to drop it completely, truth be told. Their delegation are completely out of touch, most fans have zero faith in them anymore and it's clear they have no idea what to do with this, just like most programmes they have now besides comedy.

When it is picked up by ITV it would garner interest just because of the change and I think ITV would be very excited to have it and would put the effort in it and promote the **** out of it, which is what we really need. I'd imagine ITV would handle it the same way as SVT, but despite the Christer Bjorkman things, I think this is a huge benefit.

I would like to see a national final in the UK next year. One with a selection of decent songs not stupid songs like Scooch had. If they put there minds to it, it could be a very exciting year for the UK. Invite individual song writers to take part. I do find it very annoying when they select the song writer before finding the person who will sing the song, just look what Pete Waterman did with josh it was a total crash and very dated.

While I agree with you about ITV, I fear that they might butcher it with adverts and may end up showing adverts in place of the interval act, etc. Look what BBC3 did when they completely ignored the interval act last night.

ITV could produce an MF/X Factor style NF also to choose our entry, which would hopefully put more interest in the contest here and also hopefully a good quality song could end up getting picked.

That is true, but this is the case for the majority of the broadcasters anyway. Plus the BBC we're very rude during the Semi-Finals this year, cutting performances by Agnes and the Linda Woodruff sketch, which were important parts of the event. If the interval is a name we'd know or something worthy of showing, I'd like to think ITV would show it and even promote that event. ITV, unlike the BBC, isn't one to waste namedropping or pointing to a spectacle.

Yeah, they were rude, weren't they? I was quite annoyed at that. At least BBC1 isn't so bad when it comes to coverage.

I already sent my views on last night's coverage to @bbceurovision on twitter. Someone retweeted it.

I would love for something like MF to be done in the UK. The BBC could definitely do an interesting show that can captivate good ratings, they just have to care first.

Ana has said she will do ESC now in The Sun, Jake said he would do it with the Scissor Sisters last year so I guess they are highly likely for next year but the BBC will drag it out for months.

Wow, the Guardian of all papers is saying that. I didn't think they would care. Nice to see there are some people here who care about Eurovision in the media from those articles.
