It's too obvious that's how they are thinking. The thing is, we don't even have to win it. We could enter something really beautiful and honest.. I just wish my country could have a "Suus"/"Birds" moment.

In my opinion, you did in 2012, but i seem to be the only one here who liked this entry :mad:

I quite liked that entry as well until I saw it performed. It was so forgettable.. Opening the show probably didn't help either. The song also had a strong air of cheese to it. Bonnie's song this year was the first entry I can remember truly being proud of but I can see why she didn't do well. Nostalgia played a big part in my love of it.

Heres a nice little Quiz for you all!

q1) Which 4 countries have given us points most frequently, and how often in the last 10 years?
q2)Which 5 countries haven given us points most frequently, and how often in the last 5 years?

I know they're similiar but they give us something to do!!! :)

The funny thing about Engelbert Humperdinck is that he was brought in at least partly because he was a "big name". :D I doubt there were many outside The UK who even heard his name before, less had any idea of his music. I still have no idea of any of his hits. It's like Sweden would send Svante Thuresson and root and build up our hopes on him being a huge star and all (update: we actually sent Svante Thuresson 1966 :D). Sorry for stupid comment.

Top 5 allies in the past 10 years;
1. Ireland (70 points)
2. Malta (45 points)
3. Bulgaria (19 points)
4. Cyprus (17 points)

Top 5 allies in the last 5 years;
1. Ireland (39 points)
2. Malta (22 points)
3. Bulgaria (19 points)
4. Albania (15 points)
5. Greece + Spain (14 points)

Haha. I hope the BBC at least confirm soon. It's getting so dull having to wait until March before we can even start thinking about who we have representing us.
Also, I think we should always send our new entrant to perform in the top 5 ally countries as well as countries who gave us 12 in the previous contest, to secure some points. A full tour can be expensive, but being a bit more selective should do the trick.
I'm hoping that 8 points to Russia will also bring in some benefits for us... but who knows? We don't really deserve it if we keep repeating these mistakes. When I say "we" I mean that one person who gets to pick for us.

BET YOU BLOODY CHEATED, and i said how frequently, not how many points they given us. But they're still very similar, I have to agree. On tours you need to think whos going more very likely give you points. But also the genre needs to be considered. A Pop song then they should be touring extensively in Scandinavia, Any sort of Ballad then stick to Eastern Europe and in particular Russia, Baltics and other ex-soviet countries, and ALWAYS go to countries with a close history with us. I.E. Ireland, Malta and Cyprus to maximize possible points. They toured extensively with Jade and we did exceedingly well. But this year as far i'm aware, Bonnie spent ALOT of time in Germany (that went well) and around Ukraine, Romania and such, not much of a tour.

Your not alone i didn't know of his existence until he was announced as our singer.

:lol: the only reason I knew beforehand who Engelbert was is because here in the U.S. some channels every now and then run infomercials from Time Life advertising collections of oldies music and his song "Release Me" is always featured. Outside of that I have never heard anything else of him but I know like 3 seconds of "Release Me" and what he use to look like because of that infomercial! :D At least you can still hear Bonnie on the radio.

^ Yes, no one could have missed Bonnie Tyler. I guess most people at least recognise her name and pretty much all recognise her hits, so to make the connection is easy. Not that I think a name matters much when it comes to score big. Her name just keeps her from the jumbo place. Bonnie didn't do much impression in the final 2013 though, just OKish I think. I agree with RainyWoods Engelbert Humperdinck's performance 2012 was pretty bad and everytime you kind of got nervous he would fail the high note in the end (and he never did nail it fully, he sang 3 times I think - rehearsal, juryperf and final).

Bonnie also performed her entry quite badly, and I believe that it is one of the main reasons why she failed. As soon as she done performing, I knew that it will be a bad result.

I'd much rather the BBC went for an unknown singer who would actually like to take part than trying to find a has-been who won't snub them...

Have to agree. Before it started i had hopes of doing well with her, not expecting like 3rd, but on the left side at least. But when she started i was like oh my god. She messed it up at the start but i think she pulled it together towards the end.

They might have to actually put effort in then.

Absolutely correct. She managed to "recover" near the end, but the overall impression was very.....messy, to say the least. She didn't look or sound like someone who has so much experience and who was the biggest star of Eurovision 2013.

I was really sad for her as I adore Bonnie as a singer and because this song was in my top 3 :( However, if I didn't hear the song before the contest already....who knows where it would end on my list after listening to it for the first time on that night.

So, imo, a bad live performance is what is guilty for her failure.
