Yeah, I meant that. Most boybands extincted in 90's, Blue is a newer band.

Oh okey I get it.

Well that's not really true either though.

NSync had their biggest success in early 00's (the band was just created in the end of 90's anyhow)

Take That is currently huge again in the UK after their comeback in 2006, but then again UK/Ireland has this thing for boy/girl bands that is quite unique there.

Oops that's true. It was just like very long ago... I've never liked boybands (except Blue) so I guess my mind chose to ignore the facts about them

Sorry but the selection process 2009 WAS a sort of copy of Idol/X-factor. The song was already finished and in weekly finals we had karaoke singing.

I still think there's a distinction to be made between people who came to fame through a talent show and those who came to Eurovision through a talent show. Most countries have some sort of televised selection. You could argue that every entry we ever had was a reality star. All we did the last two years was isolate one of the variables.

Please tell me how a Song for Europe was reality television when it was conducted by a regional jury structure.

Sorry but the 2009 UK selection imo had the exact same concept as Idol/X-factor, kinda the same in 2010.

True, we had similar concepts in other countries (Germany 2010, Croatia 2011, Spain 2011). But in most selections (if not internally) acts (known ones and newcomers) compete with original written songs and not karaoke singing with a "kicking out one every week" system.

Now, this is no diss against the UK selections or anything, but I just don't agree with the statement that Jade wasn't chosen through a sort of reality (Idol) concept.

There's also a huge difference between coming to prominence by winning a reality show dedicated to determining who is to represent a country at Eurovision and becoming famous by failing to win (or by winning) a different reality show and then using the fame gained by such a turrn at reality TV to help boost your run at your national final.

And now about the song: So we finally have a song. The main singer sings in falsetto for large parts of the song. Is there a live version yet? Or a live clip of the singer singing in falsetto? Or will this turn into another Germany 2008? A song that sounds pretty good on the CD but which is horribly out of tune live?

I think this might pass as a live performance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_1x0qa4kJE
I'm not much into "boy bands" myself, but thats mostly because the radio has been spammed with it for the last decade and a half, maybe it hasn't been so in the eastern parts of europe? I don't know.
I do like the beat and the song and believe it will be a a serious contender for the victory this year.

My only hopes, is that if UK do win, that we don't get spammed with disco-pop-boybands next year :D

Well, at least it sounds competent. Too bad the choreography screams "90's Boyband".

Well, this is ... good, and somewhat more "music" than Estonia, but Estonia has one big advantage: Rockefeller street is being liked immediately, but it takes some time to realize the beauty of "I can".

It's a shame to see people not only not supporting their own country but also pitting AGAINST their own country. It's fine you don't share the same optimism as us but if you aren't British what are you? Scottish? That'd be nice, Scotland 2012 with DAVID SNEDDON!!!!! :S

lol, cool logic, so if you're British, you HAVE to like the british song, and if you don't like it, you still have to support it?,,,,, because your British, and if you don't do that, you're not British? nice. ;)

Let me remind you that this isn't a war, it's a song contest. and with all the different taste in music there is here, there just might be a situation where you actually don't LIKE the contribution sent by your country.

Most of the British love Blue and their entry! So Im not sure what you mean by this? Only a couple on here say they dont like it and at the end of the day....each to their own!

I think most British Eurovision fans will like it. Eurovision has long been associated with cheesy pop in this country, so there's a fair crossover between ESC fans and Blue. When I've told other people that UK are being represented by Blue, the reaction is "urgh".

If you look back at my initial reaction to the Blue announcement, you'll find similar sentiments, expressed more strongly. I don't mind the song too much now, but I see Blue as more of a gateway to Eurovision being taken seriously here. 2011 could be Blue, 2012 Sugababes, 2013 Alesha Dixon and, little by little, ESC gets more credibility. That's my dream, at least.

Samb moans about everything so why should the Eurovision entry be any different? Maybe he is one of them 'Scottish' and not 'British' people and all ;).

So If you're British, you must like "I Can" and if you're not British you mustn't? It's a song contest what's the big deal? Watch the show, listen to the songs and have fun ;)

I would imagine Alesha would be chosen next year, she's like the BBC's version of Cheryl Cole and currently her last few singles are not charting. Eurovision would be the perfect boost for her and with a song like "boy does nothing" she'll be up near the top ;)

Yeah, I wouldn't be TOO surprised if they convinced Alesha to do it if Blue do well this year! If they fail badly though it's gonna be so hard to convince anyone to do it, let alone established acts! Such a risk lol I hope it doesn't blow up in our faces
