I'm guessing he's referring to the buddy voting of the eastern european countrys which makes it practically impossible for anyone else to win, regardless of the quality of the song. (I don't know about the UK, but that's a common attitude here from the anti-ESC people)
The last 2 years alone is proof enough that it isn't. That + the re-instated jury, so it wouldn't be all that well thought through to place a comment like that based on what i'm guessing it is, so I may very well be wrong here.

No your absolutely right, he's mocking the voting trends of the newer eastern countries which many UK citizens probably didn't know existed before their inclusion in eurovision, all very silly, ignorant and so not necessary. I thought he was above that but meh, eurovision will always be a subject which is 'cool' to make negative jokes about here I feel.

lol yeah the last talent show singer we sent was andy in 2008 and the last boyband must be before 1996 cos that's the first eurovision I remember and I don't recall any UK boybands between then and now!

Ye, it's not without a few weird looks I can tell ppl that I enjoy this. :) Either way, the subject got me a bit interested, and after a bit of research, I can tell that he's not completely off in some aspects / countrys.

..... to just mention a few to make a pattern out of it.

Anyway, They've all been one nation not long ago, and language is very similar, though I doubt all songs sent have been the "best" to everyone each year :)
But I doubt that's the case ALL over the competing countrys, since then,, as I stated before, neither germany or Norway would have won, with such a "landslide" victory as they both did. :)

No she didn't....it was the Eurovision selection programme 'Making your mind up'. So it wasn't a reality programme as such as it was all to find our entry!

Lol I completely agree, my friends think I'm crazy liking eurovision!

Back to the voting though, I think the middle placings of countries will always to some extent be affected by neighbourly or 'regional' voting as it's only natural. The same can be said for the UK/Ireland as without Ireland we would have had an even more abysmal score the past few years (minus Jade of course haha) same as Ireland can normally always rely on us to give them decent points. I'm sure if the UK was in the centre of europe surrounded by loads of countries raking in a few guaranteed 8-12 points every year we wouldn't be complaining! Those few neighbourly votes countries like Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina etc get don't in any way guarantee them a good placing anyways so I really don't see what all the fuss is about, having a lack of neighbours just means the UK has to work harder to get a good place, GAME ON I say!!!

In fairness it was a talent selection programme modelled on the likes of X-Factor etc. The winner just happened to win the chance to sing for the UK.

Yeah but how else would they find someone to represent us?!

Open submission selection. I would have thought this was painfully obvious.

Oh, why the UK sends some boyband or a "talent" show singer every year?

Hmmm, maybe we get to see Susan Boyle next year

Every year? I guess boybands extincted in 90's, Blue is the last one. And UK sent them only this year :)

Nah, the british people love their boybands (and girl bands for that matter). Westlife, Boyzone (not british but still.....). there are several out there (new ones too ;) )

Which is kind of what they did but let the public decide who was best!?

Wrong. It wasn't an open song submission - the song was already decided. Open contests also allow the public to decide the representation. Eesti Laul is one example of this. Melodienfest is another. Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins, Piosenka dla Europy...

Sorry but the selection process 2009 WAS a sort of copy of Idol/X-factor. The song was already finished and in weekly finals we had karaoke singing.
