Re: UKRAINE 2019

I agree also that Babkin could've been a NQ. But it's the kind of "real/intimate/sophisticated" act that, if it connects with people, can work. Constantine had probably my favorite song in the selection but he's too inexperienced. He was nervous in the NS, wouldve been a wreck in Lisbon. Plus, the song lacked a catchy chorus.

Look at the top. 2, with that in mind and that Tayanna has the looks, and the talent combined, do I need to say more? xshrug None of them were "intimate" or "sophisticated" (whatever that pretentiousness means), they were both in your face party bangers.

What I meant with Constantine was more the type of entry would fair well with juries I think, however not him (atleast not in his current state as you just point out).

I think however Hrystyna Soloviy could be a good option, we never had something that authentic from Ukraine, and she would bring both the "real/intimate/sophisticated", yet talented Ukrainian female beauty and something very local sounding that would be standing out.

That's why I used those terms in quotes. I'd compare it to Austria, which, you know.... Also, Leila isn't as catchy as this year's top 2.

BTW, Kvinta said he was trying to recruit DakhaBrakha this year, but they were touring at the time. Maybe send then through internal selection. Now watch, the juries downvote them too for being kitsch or whatever, lol.

I think "Leila" was catchy enough, and I think it's the type of entries that juries could actually be more appreciate of than both "Toy" and "Fuego" (and I think we saw in the jury results that they like Pop, but not when it's too quirky or ethnical), but then again we will never know now will we xshrug

As much as I understand the bitterness over the jury results, and I do agree that they downgraded Ukraine a bit too much, I think people here aren't looking clear at the situation. You often did good even with juries onboard, and the few "flop" results I must say were quite deserving tbh xshrug But c'mon, you've been in the top. 10 60% of your tries, that's more than what most countries can ever dream of, so the reactions here aren't really rational.

I'm not sure what reaction you're talking about. I don't think anyone is suggesting that the juries always kill Ukraine. They've never been particularly friendly toward Ukraine, same as with most Eastern block, but they did help Gaitana and Alyosha. And their presence helped Jamala win. In fact, I think out of all the Eastern countries, Ukraine has probably been hurt least by the juries.

Ok maybe not you, but look at some reactions in the thread talking about "jury biasism", and now "no one from Ukraine would want to take part"... apparently memory is short because like you just pointed out, juries have been rather fair to Ukraine throughout the years and if it wasn't for them, you wouldn't have even won back in 2016.

some reactions.

17 (!) zeroes for Jamala when their televoters gave her 10s & 12s (and that's for the entry that should have been liked more by the juries) was everything but fair

Not to mention the EBU's position against us in 2017. They wanted to host the contest in Odesa so we could sign a multimillion deal with "their" company to reconstruct the stadium. We f*cked their money  They threatened to take the contest from us. Then they fined us & UA:pBC president openly went against them. + unhealthy political climate. Did I expect anything else from certain juries? Nope. Tayanna or anyone else... even Adele - they would have given the same zeroes xshrug

When a HoD says "they (Ukrainians) have no taste" I don't want their moronic points :geek:
Last year some of them made jokes about Russian nuclear weapons flying to Ukraine right during their NF broadcast.
The executive board fined us for nothing, for something which is not even in the contract.

Will it continue next year? Absofriggenlutely :p Our HoD won't go anywhere, they won't stop voting for their friends and some of them won't stop hating our country.
We should keep sending strong entries and continue receiving good marks from the televote.

I just pray we won't choose some mess from The Voice (a la German entry this year) in order to impress the juries :?

Someone is still bitter that the mediocre Melovin entry didn't score higher than it deserved I see

^ I'm just not delusional like certain someone.

Oh, and the first talentless show singers appeared. One producer hinted that Masha Rak and Aida will submit their entries.

Aida's 2016 NF entry:

Masha Rak butchering Dalida:

Verka Andriy Danylko said if we want to please the juries we should send Dakha Brakha:

But he will vote for a televote-fave.

Re: UKRAINE 2019

The NF boss basically confirmed the NF 2019 :D

And she slammed Tayanna's manager (who has bitched with almost everyone from the NF during the last 3 days)

Re: UKRAINE 2019

Since they have won with Jamala, I really didn't like their entries, they didn't choose well at all..and results in ESC say so.. :(

That year when Jamala won, that Ukrainian NF was one of the best NFs EVER..it was insanely good!

I'd literally die to see Hardkiss in Jerusalem! xfaint xbow

The performance, outfit, vocals of Hardkiss in 2016 Ukrainian NF is maybe the best ESC related performance ever! xlove xheart

I'm sure if they went instead of Jamala, Ukraine would have still won! ;)

While we're at it... my *current* wish list for 2019 (I would like to add Lama, Okean Elzy, Tina Karol, Onuka and The Hardkiss here too, but I think none of them would even consider enter so).

Tayanna

Hrystyna Soloviy

Iryna Fedyshyn

Sonya Kay

Nastya Kamenskih

Re: UKRAINE 2019

UA:pBC is the one that officially decides our participation but judging from the TV ratings (the best since 2008) and the NF ratings + comments from UA:pBC officials it's safe to say we're officially in, with Vidbir 2019.
