Re: UKRAINE 2016

That puzzles me a bit. I'm not sure, but if I remember well, the german counting in Lasha tumbai was hence interpreted as an allusion to the german occupation in Ukraine during WWII. So, ESC is the place for silly songs about serious political subjects, but not for serious ones? Or was the fuzz about the german counting just a fan hoax back then?

This is the first I hear of the German-occupation connection in Verka's song. I only know about people saying "lasha tumbai"="Russia goodbye".

Anyway, this is what he (thanks yulichka) said.
"Андрей Данилко, занявший второе место на Евровидении в 2007 году, полагает, что у композиции с политическим подтекстом будет мало шансов: «Это развлекательный конкурс, и людям не нужны проблемы, с которыми артисты туда едут. Однозначно, не нужно воспринимать и подавать свое участие как миротворческую миссию — зрительских баллов это не добавит. Вспомните выступление наших «Гринджол»! Им просто поломали карьеру тем, что отправили на конкурс с актуальной песней».

My translation: It's an entertainment show and people don't want to hear about the problems that the artists bring with them. There's no need to use it as a peacekeeping mission - it won't bring any more points.

Yep, "no political subtext".

Unfortunately there's Ruslana who said that she's gonna vote for Greenjolly-2 patriotic songs.

This is the first I hear of the German-occupation connection in Verka's song.
I'm guessing whose fans made it up back then  Nvmnd.

Thanks a lot for enlighten me on this point. Indeed this discussion about the german counting must have been a fan spread rumor ....

Re: UKRAINE 2016

Ruslana was the host of the allocation draw:

Semi #1

1. Jamala
2. The Hardkiss
3. Brunettes Shoot Blondes
4. Svetlana Tarabarova
5. Vladislav Kurasov
6. Aida Nikolaichuk
7. Lavika
8. Tonya Matviyenko
9. Anastasiya Pryhodko

Semi #2

1. SunSay
2. Pur:pur
3. Peaks of Kings
4. Pringlez
5. Victoria Petryk
6. Arkadiy Voityuk
7. ALLOISE
8. NuAngels
9. Japanda

Ruslana is not the only one in jury... so
The channel invited her so the channel's vote can be the same, as well as NTU's (I hope they learned from JESC).

Re: UKRAINE 2016

I don't get the fuss about NeAngely? Is this really what Eurofans want? Imported Swedish disco-trash?

Pity that Zlata is not amongst the names, but out of the announced once Tonya Matvienko, Jamala and Anastasiya Prykhodo sounds most promising (atleast on paper). I wasn't a big fan of Jamala's last attempt, but something tells me this will be darker and more serious in the tone of her latest stuff which I like.

I'm not for nepotism, but if having Ruslana on the jury could help out Matvienko (who I assume will have the best entry in the end) then I guess it could be good with a little support ;)

Re: UKRAINE 2016

Andy believes 3 songs qualify per each semi.
:? if The Hardkiss don't qualify it will cause drama-tsunami.

Re: UKRAINE 2016

Whaaaat? I thought 4... Although why more? I think 3 finalists per semifinal is rational.
Same here. I'd love to have just 6 songs in the final (such a change from previous finals w/ 20+ songs)... but not with such draw in the 1st semi.

If STB inserts their 15 min. commercials after 3 entries  and adds Ruslana 1.5 hour concert as an interval act everyone will forget the 1st half when the voting starts.

Re: UKRAINE 2016

I like Prikhodko's song. It's not a winner but good enough for a NF.

Her accent though. Yikes. It's like she's did not improve at all since her Action days. Didn't she say there was a Ukrainian version too? That's the one she should sing at the NF.

Considering the slaughtering of national languages in Eurovision I can get the "logic" these days going with English, but I agree, it's senseless if one can't even pronounce it properly. She should get her act together and go with the Ukrainian one (if it exists), it will be soooooo much better for sure!

Anyways I'm waiting for Tonya Matvienko (mostly) and also Jamala (I think her song can be interesting this time around unlike the vile "Smile").

I guess not everyone can have the strength and memory the Maltese have

Re: UKRAINE 2016

Andy thinks that it wasn't the running order.
They were choosing the semis only.

Re: UKRAINE 2016

It really is an interesting line-up in Ukraine this year. Looking forward to Jamalas song, I do loved "Smile", but this seems to be something absolutely different and I hope it to be a real emotional song. :) But there are many names explained in the thread that seems interesting like Hardkiss, Japanda and Anastasiya Prikhodko which I loved for Russia in 2009! This will be a NF to look for this february! ;)
