Our flag-bearer was the great Jason Lamy-Chapuis ! xrock

Piece of trivia.
Timor-Leste makes its debut in Winter Olympics with a French boy who has a Timorian mother named Yohan Goutt Goncalves. He has been guested in several shows some weeks ago. A very nice boy ! :)

Togo makes also its debut with 2 girls, one of them being partly French and living in France.

But funniest one, :mt: Malta makes its debut with a French girl called Elise Pellerin.
Apparently she owned the right to run for Malta because her grandfather settled there ! :D She lives in the Vosges.

And also, if certain world leaders had the least bit of respect for the Olympics and their athletes, they would've attended the OC.

I really hope not even a single leader from my country went there, to a acountry with a regime that only promotes hatred (). I extend this to every democratic country and I wish all they would've done the same back in 2008 in Beijing.

Let the sportmen play, I agree, but zero political support. I think nobody from the Spanish government or the Royal Family was there, but if I discover any of them went, I'll certainly write a serious complain.

No one should go to the World Cup in Brazil then... and the Summer Olympics in Brazil as well! Also, the World Cup in Qatar should be boycotted by everyone because they're not democratic either.

I'm done with people portraying Russia as the most vile and most evil country in the world.

Sad news in Norway, just after the opening ceremony, they said on the news that the brother of one of our Olympic cross-country skiers died suddenly today. The cause of his death hasn't been made public. RIP.

Making an appearance on a sports event doesn't make you a supporter of the hosts political tendencies. Do not mix politics with sport! This is exactly what our president said when he was asked why he didn't boycott it. But also as Danny said, there are many countries with human rights issues, but the fact that Russia has been overcriticized should not be forgotten. Media played a great deal in this.

I never asked for a boycott cause that would damage all the sport men and Russian people who only want to enjoy sport.

But leaders going there for something that someone like Putin, someone who killed, poisoned and send to jail to journalist who were saying the bitter truth; someone who barely allows opposition or freedom of expression; especially someone who is promoting homophobia, unequality and hatred. Yeah, I know there are much more dangerous places for LGTB people, but the problem is Russia is walking back with this regime. Not talking about mafia....
He's using the Olympics for his own evil propaganda. That's why I don't want our leaders to help his propaganda and big shame for all those who are contributing.

I wish IOC, FIFA and all those organizations never gave these events to countries like Russia, China or Qatar, but who can trust those corrupt oligarchs who only care about money.

BTW I'm not boycotting these games because I really don't give a damn about winter sports and I never watch them

I'm sure all of you already read this, but I'm quoting Google and the Olympic Charter anyway.

"The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play."

I guess Putin's regime is not following the Olympic Charter very much...

In Portugal nobody really cares about winter sports. We will only have coverage on a premium sports channel.
This year we will have 2 athletes: one on slalom and one on giant slalom. They are both living in other countries, and they are children of Portuguese emmigrants. One of them can't even speak Portuguese

I don't really get your point here. Has he publicly stated that no gay man or lesbian woman is not allowed to compete?

WTF as if this man, even if he's the Russian president, had the power to choose who competes and who doesn't

That's what you were implying. ;)

No, it wasn't ;)

Read again and think about it if you are able. It is not that difficult to understand ;)

Hint: "Olympic Spirit" (and Human Rights) apply not only during the games.
