I don't get why they are trying to compete for Sweden and not Norway (I guess MGP is less prestigious but still)

and I find it interesting how willing the Swedes are to vote for them. I know for a fact that if a Croatian or Serbian, heck even Austrian artist tried to represent Slovenia no one would be voting for them in Slovenia.
It's because they're perceived as a child act in Norway because the Norwegian public has known them since they were very young, they could rebrand themselves in Sweden

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I just have to say it. Smash Into Pieces have to win this year. I've been a huge fan of their music for a few years now and I still believe they were massively robbed last year. Of course, Loreen won Eurovision and all that, but in my opinion their entry was much better than Tattoo and Loreen won Melodiefestivalen mostly just because she's Loreen... They have 0 bad songs, so it's almost a given they will set the stage on fire and bring us some real quality music. Rooting for them as I've legit never rooted for anyone else in any national selections.

I beg to differ... Loreen didn't "win Melodifestivalen because she's Loreen" otherwise she would have won with "Statements" as well (and she didn't even reach the final back then).
She clearly had the best package again.

But yeah, Smash Into Pieces would have been a great addition to Eurovision.
Let's hope their entry this year ain't too much pop (looking at the songwriters, I'm afraid it won't be heavy at all,.though).

What I don't get... why are we getting 5 different heats with only 6 songs competing?
I can still remember the "8 songs in a heat" editions and I personally enjoyed them more what we've been facing lately.
I feel like the diversity of genres/songs have slightly but continously decreased.

So basically,.only 2 entries get eliminated per night since there will be a "2nd chance round" after semi 5 on the same night (in which viewers can vote on the remaining songs without them getting performed again)

What I meant was that Loreen, in my opinion, didn't have the best song. Definitely in top 5, maybe top 3. Her popularity unarguably boosted the ratings though. It's no mystery that popular artists can get away with imperfections simply for the sake of their fame. Slimane is a good example of this - why didn't France go with national selections, like they usually do? Because they knew Slimane would win anyway. I'm sure you remember everyone saying last year, even before the songs for Melodifestivalen got released, that it's just a formality and Loreen was going to win no matter what. I'm not trying to undermine her success, she's a great singer and I loved Tattoo. However, it's pretty obvious, that if the song had been sang by an unknown artist, even if they had exactly the same voice as Loreen, they probably wouldn't have won the selections.

Since there is no second chance round, how many songs qualify from each heat?

Still 12 finalists. Top 2 goes DTF. There's technically a quick second-chance voting at the end of Heat 5 consisting of all the 3rd/4th placers - two of those entries will qualify to the final. (which seems like another rule change in the making, because it gives a big advantage to the Heat 5/4's run-off entries due to recency bias)

Not wanting to dance anymore, but I must dance
There are people still trying to make the Norwegian promotion twins a thing.

I think that's because they're the recent second place (and they had hype going into the final this year). Things could change after the songs are heard, of course, but let's not forget they dedicated an entire skit this year to the fact that Danny's "cursed" with never winning Melodifestivalen.

Since they announced the participants of Melodifestivalen 2024 the other day here is my predictions. I have sorted them into four categories. Group 1. The entries that SVT believes in and where the winner probobly is, Group 2. The serious artists that will participate to promote their music but doesn't have a broad enough appeal to win, Group 3. The "no way in hell they will win", and Group 4. The wild cards, could go high or low.

Group 1.
Lisa Ajax - Awful liar
Adam Woods - Supernatural
Liamoo - Dragon
Maria Sur - When I’m Gone
Jacquline - Effortless
Cassiopeia - Give my heart a break
Kim Cesarion - Take my breath away
Danny Saucedo - Happy that you found me
Dotter - It’s not easy to write you a love song
Jay Smith - Back to my roots
Marcus & Martinus - Unforgettable

Group 2.
Elisa Lindström - Forever yours
Smash into pieces - Heroes are calling
Melina Borglowe - Min melodi
Clara Klingenström - Aldrig mer
SCARLET - Circus X
Medina - Que sera

Group 3.
Samir och Viktor - Hela världen väntar
Engmans kapell - Norrland
Fröken Snusk - Unga och fria
Klaudy - För dig
Gunilla Persson - I won’t shake (la la la)
Lia Larsson - 30 km/h
Lasse Stefanz - En sång om sommaren
Elecktra - Banne maj

Group 4.
C-Joe - Ahumma
Dear Sara - The silence after you
Chelsea Muco - Controlla’
Annika Wickihalder - Like
Albin Tingwall - Done getting over you

I know it's early, but if the betting odds are any indication, then the real competition in Melodifestivalen 2024 will be between Marcus & Martinus and Danny Saucedo.

I hoped Wiktoria would be back again with a banger

I still don't understand how she flopped so badly in 2017 with As I Lay Me Down? Like even though the vocals weren't the best, I still don't understand why she was completely ignored as the song is such a banger

A bit of a weird time to bring up, but is anyone else surprised Anders Bagge isn't returning? I figured he'd be a shoe-in, but i guess they can't find the right song for him, and he's got enough other gigs to do...

I don´t think he is interested tbh. He got the maximum result last time, he proved he could perform on stage which was his goal and he came in second and was the peoples favourite. I doubt he has any ambition to go to ESC so he is probobly done with Schlager-SM.

The more I think about it, the more positive I feel about this line-up! With ESC being held on home soil, I really don't mind there being plenty of familiar faces. The fact that several of the big returning acts are artists that have somewhat different flavours compared to the "usual" scandipop also makes me feel positive (rock with Smash, poprap with Medina, indiepop with Klingenström).

I'm really curious how Clara Klingenström's return will turn out. Considering how huge Behöver inte dig idag was and how she unfortunately has failed to chart since, I wonder if her record company will put actual money into her performance this time around and give her a memorable number of some kind instead of just having her stand on stage. Would be so incredibly happy if she somehow managed to improve her placing compared to last time, but I'm keeping my expectations under control.

However I really don't mind if this year ends up just being the coronation of Danny, like last year was with Loreen. He is charismatic and has a ton of experience, he's got more talent in his pinky than Mello-robots like Robin Bengtsson or Liamoo has in their entire bodies. Plus he's said that this will be a number with the same effort into it as Amazing had, which sounds very promising.

Also, the chance that the audience will vote en masse for Norwegians that can't even speak our language to represent us when we are hosting is close to zero.

Groundbreaking! (that's ironic) >> The famous second spot is only for Swedish songs :devilish:

There are only six songs per heat, but seeing Smash into Pieces, Fröken Snusk, Cazzi Opeia, Danny Saucedo (instead of Dotter) and Medina closing their heats is interesting. Frightening a bit too (I'm really not a fan of Medina)

Looked it up and the last time a Swedish language song got to close out the season was "Evighet" in 2006...
