Is she even an actual singer. I know she can hold a tune, but is she known as a performer in her own right? I really thought she was a songwriter and didn't perform, save for maybe demos for the songs she writes.
A lot of songwriters are "failed singers" that never made it big despite being talented. Not everyone in the industry makes it and it's all about who you know. Look at Sia, she wrote a lot of hits but her own career took off very late. And for some it just never happens.

Some songwriters are also treated really shitty by big record labels. Hits that they wrote for themselves will be taken away and given to more "hopeful" or already successful singers, while they are left with crumbs. Jennifer Lopez biggest hit during her debut weren't even sung by her but the original songwriter.

And I think Laurell was just never able to really set foot in the industry, only as a songwriter. Until "Habit" gave her some momentum now.

My gut feeling is honestly that Marcus & Martinus are gonna be going to Liverpool, :12: from all 11 juries in the final

Do you really think the Swedish public will fully get behind a couple of Norwegians representing them? Surely that's against some kinda law in Sweden, right?
Honestly yes, the feud between :se: and  is like two young brothers, it’s just for fun

For me they appear like two competitive middle aged men with big bellies, bold heads and red beards, drinking lots of booze. One of them is very rich, the other one sings a lot.

Marcus & Martinus are only there for promotion. Right now Maria Sur is the runawa winner but we still haven't heard the apparent strong heat 4 songs yet.

I am not sure about that at all. Shes #3 now in the odds, she doesnt have the dynamic or a Melfest runway winner.

3rd MF heat based on studio and rehearsal snippets:

1. Casanovas – “Så kommer känslorna tillbaka” 10/10 – as I thought, Casanovas will be the most for me in this heat in the end lol, names in this heat are a bit weaker, and the tons of anonimous pop songs, so they can stand out. Classic dansband schlager, like in MF in 90s and 00s, a nostalgic sound, the lead singer has good vocals..

2. Marcus & Martin us – “Air” 10/10 – this seems really good, I thought they will be MF by numbers, but they are not, just reminds me of Mans a bit, that type, it has potential to go really high in 2023 MF…
______________________________
3. Nordman – “Släpp alla sorger” 9/10 – expected form Nordman, it even has a bit of a modern sound, but still really authentic.. Vocals are really good..

4. Ida-Lova – “Låt hela stan se på 8/10 – this is definitelly smth different, I cant tell everything based on snippets (studio and rehearsal one), the semi operetic voce is maybe a bit in a mismatch with this song, but we will see, the whole song can surprise…
_______________________________
5. Melanie Wehbe- “For the Show” 7/10 – Melanie is just solid, maybe I expected more, but that’s it, I like the outfit from the rehearsal..

6. Paul Rey – “Royals” 5/10 – I knew it, he went down the MF road 100%, he was the best when he appeared for the first time, this is not for me, even his look now is more polished and MFized.. :/ but I do like him and I can’t give less than 5.. :(

7. Laurell- “Sober” 3/10 – uh, this lacks almost everything, vocals, composition, the lyrics.. The worst thibg is I can see her in semis instead of somebody.. Duuh :(

Very excited for the show tonight! The last few days were pretty boring without a NF show.

That's what we call withdrawal symptoms! 😂😂😂 After Sanremo and last Super Saturday it is normal, I guess!

I think that Melfest has the same problem as the german NF. Someone in this thread has already said it. The problem are the people who chose these songs. They get so many songs every year I doubt that these acts are the creme de la creme. In Germany we know that the acts last year were definitely not the best and some of these songs that they chose were just terrible. The most generic music I've ever heard. I have the same issue with some of these Melfest songs. I wonder why that is. Like how do these people not realize that these songs are super generic? Or maybe that is what they want?

It feels like nepotism. Most of the songs chosen are from producers that were always there on Melfest even from 10 years ago... and Europe is eating whatever the winner is, though.

I believe in those 2000+ submissions half of it might be these well-crafted but predictable demos from these producers. The only thing is picking whoever wants to sing them.
