5pts... not bad but one of the most safe choices they had.

Re: SWEDEN 2014

Sanna may have had a ballad but it sounds a rather contemporary power ballad. Everyone was hailing Ace as some unique saviour of Melodifestivalen when the truth is, she had yet another electronic pop song. The sound of her song has been everywhere for the past few years. She's hardly revolutionary. She got to number 1 in the charts for a reason, because she has an accessible pop song.

Ace losing to Sanna who's finally got her win after 7 attempts isn't a huge tragedy. Maybe if Ace had some kind of deep, exquisite, experimental composition then it might be. She had yet another brattish mainstream pop song that blends into everything else currently poisoning the music airwaves.

We live in 2014, I prefer something catchy contemporary over a ballad we heard millions of times... Ace is nothing revolutionary, but it's still fresh sounding and had different of layers from the verses with the country/banjo to the more hip-hopish chorus...

Somehow I see the people giving this 0 in the poll as thinking "BOOO U WHORE!!!!111 MY FAVORITE DIDNT WIN SO IM GONNA HATE DIS SONG!!!11". Whereas if this had been an internal selection and no other songs would have been made known, it wouldn't receive as much hate as it's bound to receive now from butthurt fans.

The biggest failure tonight were not named Zia, Panetoz or Ewald, but instead - Yohio.

This is an absolute catastrophy for him. I see no future career for Yohio at all. He could end up working @ McDonalds if he doesn't solve this up very quickly. He's already passè, which were proved in the televoting. Last year he was something special and exciting. Fresh air in the musical sphere. But this year, he weren't as exciting.

You can't rely an entire career on Melodifestivalen. It's embarrassing.

I feel sorry for him. I guess this was a much needed reality-check for Yohio.

Can't blame the juries now, can you?

Well, had the German juries given Ace points she'd won xshrug

But yes I am surprised by the jury vote, but it was still very close between the two...

But this is indeed a generation gap, my father who is from a whole other generation would argue similar "there's no melody"...
But there is no melody in the chorus. The verse has one, sure, but whatever is there is crap too.

I go by melody first, last and always when I listen to songs to see if I like them or not. I care absolutely nothing about what's in the charts or what's modern. Never did.

If this had been an internal selection, I still would've hated it because it's just bland and empty!

What a shame.

What a shame.
What a shame.
What a shame.

Instead of choosing a song that sticks out and excels in its genre (girl pop), Sweden has picked a mediocre female ballad that we have already so many from in ECS history? I mean, I like ballads, but this is really not one that turns heads. It only adds to the poverty that we're seeing so far this year...:S

Well, I love M.I.A. and most people would say it's just noise... the "no melody" comment is based, imo, on a conventional idea about what music is. But I guess it's just about taste in the end of the day...

My guess is you hate the Polish entry too (which is probably my favorite this year)?

Following the crowd musically is boring. Who cares really if something is "fresh" or not. Sanna's song was solid and that's why it won the contest finally for her. To be totally honest, i've heard Ace's type of song a lot more recently than I have Sanna's. I'm already sick to death of that type of party song. At least you have Poland though this year which in my opinion (even though I don't like it) feels a lot more authentic than Ace's song does.

M.I.A.'s stuff is in a different league to "Busy Doin Nothing" which was tailor made for Melodifestivalen and the charts in general. That girl has some really freaky cool, experimental stuff.

Trust me, I'm not a crowd-follower, I just like to stay updated... but I like to think of myself as a person with a quite diverse taste in music but I'm talking from a Eurovision/MF perspective here, Sanna's type of songs we are overflooded by in ESC yearly... ESC is losing credibility with staying so out-of-touch... I mean it's not as if ESC is filled with alternative cool music either... it's just dated conventional stuff like Sanna's xshrug
