Re: SPAIN 2014

Do you all think Denmark would have won singing in danish? Let me doubt it! :p

I don't think Spain would necessarily be more successful singing in English. Honestly, I doubt it. You would flop as often, but with the added crime that you decided like everyone else to sing in English.

You didnt answer my question :p

Anyways this is a contest in which 50% of the votes come from viewers all over Europe. These viewers can like your song or not, depending on many factors. One of these factors is that they can understand what you are singing. It's not my opinion, it's a fact.
Is it a crime? I dont think so. It has nothing to do with countries' pride for their own language, it's all about having more chances of winning. Obviously singing in english doesnt bring you to the top per se, but it's a plus. Whoever doesnt see it, it's because they dont want to.

I don't mind if we sing in Spanish, English, Catalan, Euskera or Chinese. Let's send the best song and let's sing it in the language it was written.

Yeah, because the random viewer in France, Russia, Hungary, Azerbaijan is that good in English???

Again this myth that English is SOOO universal, when fact is that it's not even second or third language in many ESC countries.

Oh, and not all people need to understand lyrics to appreciate a song, good music will survive and some may actually be interested in hearing some other language than English for a change? I know it's a shocking thought... but yeah, there are many like those.

Re: SPAIN 2014

"Quedate conmigo" was a powerful breath-taking ballad. "Contigo hasta el final" nothing special, they were invisibile among 39 countries, so I thought it wasn't a good choice from the beginning.

I'm not sure we'll have famous singers next year after this failure xthink (nobody will want to)
What about the genre? I think it's time for something alternative or some rock!

Famous artists are probably more likely to pick apart previous songs rather than claim it's political or anything. ESDM's song and performance just weren't worthy of getting a good result, it doesn't mean that nobody else would be though.

Unfortunately most people here don't have a good view on ESC. You can see that with Pastora or ESDM (they claim it's a wonderful experience now but they both looked distrusting at first). Bad result (and awful attitude by the press) + people don't know much/dislike ESC = no famous artist (unless their record company "makes" them, which I suspect has been the case these last two years)

Obviously this was ESDM's case. Not sure about Pastora though.

And I think we need someone sweet, young and fresh, like a new star. If we take a look at the last winners (Rybak, Lena, the Azeri couple, Loreen, Emmelie) all of them have this in common.

So Pablo Alborán, Paula Rojo, Roko or even the guys from Auryn (but with their current stuff, not the crap they competed in NF 2011) or something similar, that would be the best choice. Not that they are my faves (personally I think Alborán is soooooo overrated), but that's the image we need.

Re: SPAIN 2014

Yup I agree. Remember 2003? That's the last year Spain's entry could've won.

So is that it? the European expect Latino sounds from us? I like Beth's song but something of the sort in 2014 would sound pretty old-fashioned.

Maybe Maria Isabel should be an option... Spanish people still remember her and it could bring back some expectations or at least a media interest.

We haven't heard of her in a while xthink not sure that's a good idea.
I found this fan video with candidates  I don't like any of them (well, Roko I do, and maybe Paula Rojo but I don't know really...)

Re: SPAIN 2014

I think Spain should keep the internal selection of the artist and aditionally they should internally select the song as well. It's just a joke what they have done two years in a row with those cheap and fake shows to pick the songs, which obvioulsy were already picked by the production. Itä's better to save those euros for the promotion or the staging, and please, If they don't speak English, at least someone of the delegation should help them and became as a translator, It was so embarrased that ESDM couldn't give interviews just because of the language limitation, where was the Head of Delegation? doesn't he speak English either?

I don't know if he does but it seems he's a useless human being and does nothing.
I completely agree with you. It was obvious Pastora and ESDM had a song in mind and TVE favourised them. The shows are awful too. Let's see how they plan it this year xthink

Pablo Alborán! xlove Please please please! I listened to his debut album for the first time in December and I haven't moved on to his second album because I'm not tired of it yet! And believe me, I listen to it every day! I really do. I just had a two-weeks break due to Eurovision. Now I'm back to it!
