Pastora was the only one who gave me the "winner" feeling while watching her performance! She can do it! :D
I had that feeling as well. just b4 those 1st rehersals of big 5 I was thinking how I still haven't heard "the winner". now I think I have.
very very curious how this turns out.

[SUB][/SUB]Mark my words, this is gonna win after a close battle with Russia and Iceland. I'm not a massive fan of it but from an objective point of view it's definitely one of the strongest ballads this year.

If Spain's ever gonna win again, this is your chance. I'm gonna place a bet on you winning so don't let me down.

Some people will be disappointed. Pity because it is quite obvious it does not stand a single chance even to do well.

And would you mind to give the reasons you have or the objective reasons you have seen to say such an adventurus statement? All facts here and there give me a slight clue that the song won´t do as bad as you predict. Top ten in betting odds, top ten in Big brother game thread, Top ten in Grand Final thread, Positive comments and reactions to her rehearsals. Well, I respect your prediction but when you say "obvious" I would like to know what are you refering too.

^ Keep in mind that these are fan opinions though (incl. the bettings which are carried out by fans mostly). Although I 'get' why it is loved by many fans I just cannot see it appealing to neutral audiences. It is neither contemporary (far from it) nor has it a Spanish vibe (despite the language) nor is the melody in any respects memorable at first listening. Sure, Pastora Soler has a great voice and it is likely she will be able to match the expections on Saturday but good singing along will not make up a lot for a weak composition. Austria's entries last year was a huge out-dated power ballad, too, but faster building and in English and yet only managed to finish second to last with the audiences all around Europe and the Caucasus states and 18th with the jury votes included. I do not know why this should fare so much differently.

I don't see any similarities between Austria 2011 and Spain 2012 with the exception of both being ballads.

It obviously in the end comes down to taste but Spain is much more popular than Austria, more melodic and certainly not as draggy. We will find out soon enough but Spain has a much bigger mass appeal.

Austria 2011 was very very Disney.
I don't have that impression with Spain. it's not that cheesy. (sorry Austria)

CC92, I don´t know if you have information about the percentage of "fans" and the percentage of "neutral audiences" who will vote during the contest but I am quite sure fans will vote in thousands, that´s why all we are here, aren´t we? So, I can imagine somehow the final result of the voting.
Probably the performance itself will make the difference. Voice, dress, deliver of the song. Don´t you think that long note substained during several seconds is impressive enough to capture the attention of some "first-time viewers?". I still think there are positive reasons to think she will do well.

In any case, as Matt said, is a question of taste so we will see soon.

I agree that Austria 2011 was a different type of ballad (and a much worse one ). Though both have in common that they are pompously building ones relying to a high degree on the performer's vocals. Unlike Matt, I do not think Quédate conmigo (to stay with me) is easier on the ear or more exciting than Austria's wailfest. Also I would say it is cheesy, even if not as much as The secret is love. But of course, such perceptions depend on each person's auditory habits and taste. Probably it is more appropriate to compare it with Malta's entry for 2009, still in this case, the conclusion would be the same.

@ IBEROSPAIN

No, I do not have any data on the percentages of fans in the actual voting. But given the fact that there are each year songs doing incredibly well or even topping the fan charts and nevertheless sink in the final receiving hardly anything from the televotes, fan opinions cannot be a crucial factor. Think of how many people in your country watch ESC and how many of them consider themselves as fans. :(

Quédate conmigo has more similarities to Is it true? or Everything than to The secret is love.

I would say they were more instant and could have been played on the radio actually. Because even though they benefited from good (live) vocals, the melodies were memorable enough on their on. On the contrary, I cannot imagine Quédate conmigo (to stay with me) having a life outside of the contest. Then this might apply to Molitva as well, give you that, but it is another evidence.

I Dont know how the charts go in the rest of Europe but I dont remember "Running scared" charting in the Spanish charts. Even Lena 2010. I agree it works in countries like Sweden, Germany or Denmark but there are 42 countries voting. In other words: I dont think being a radio formula success its not a reason to win ESC.
