the thing is, if we send a crappy song, we will probably get some pity-points from few neighbors...and 0 from others...and byebye finals.

that's the thing with these "blocks". they can help u so that u don't end up on the last-last place on the board (with 0 or 2 pts) but they can't push u to the finals. u have to get points from others as well. so yeah, we all need good songs.

Well dear, I know from "a very first moment" that it is never enough only to get the points from the neighbours.....and it doesn't work out in ANY block (Scandinavian, Eastern european, Mediterranean, Caucasian etc. etc., you can call them whatever you want), you HAVE TO reach some points from the others, "far away" countries as well....
If you have A DECENT and A GOOD song, the voting blocks are not important at all. That's why I say that the people who lean on the voting blocks only, and have a big expectation about it, are funny and hillarious (at least to me). :)

I guess my country has the worst draw it could get... :( Semi with the most contestants, in the first half and with no Netherlands-supporting countries.
yeah, but remember, people are 50% of points. so, if u have a good song, juries will send u to the finals, even if people continue with this neighborly bs.

and again - good song will be supported, regardless of geography and politics. it always comes down to that ;)

This year it will be extremely difficult for Bosnia. I mean Maya can not compete with ex yu superstars like Željko, Nina and Kaliopi are. And for sure Serbian 12 will go to Macedonia or Croatia (audience will probably vote for Nina and jury for Kaliopi).

But who know. With great song, every scenario is possible.

That's true of course. It's not that you can get to the final only by support from neighbors (as is said before), but it can HELP you and make a difference between 11th and 10th place. So it doesn't mean my country is doomed to stay in the semi this year, but it's still very bad luck.

Serbia & Fyrom are in.

Actually her songs are her worst enemy, but yeah she's a known name in ex-Yugo area, so she'll make it to the final thanks to having all those countries in the semi.

I don't know how she will manage in the final though.

Okay whatever happened to not putting Greece/Cyprus together? And Turkey with its usual 12-pointers?

Ugh. Poor Netherlands, in the 2nd place death-row. You're not getting in this year either :?

It's only the second time since the two semis started that Greece and Cyprus are in the same semi. What's the problem with that? It's all matter of possibilities. If it happens to be in the same semi, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't... With only 12 points you go nowhere. Everything is up to the rest countries voting for you.

Second semi is really interesting  Who would say that we would basically get a half ex-yu + a half of ex-soviet semi (+ the rest of the world ). It is interesting that it is random and BOOM you get an outcome like that, but that's the interesting part of this - you don't know what you end up with :D

I think Montenegro and Russia are the biggest "losers" of the draw, but that doesn't automatically mean they will not qualify. It's just that they will need really good songs in order to make it as they don't have the support of the countries that traditionally vote for them.

As for :rs: I am obviously happy with the outcome :D 2 times we didn't have a great draw, but now we can be satisfied.

Russia is unlucky by the draw?
Will get at least 40 points from Israel-Moldova-Latvia-Azerbaijan.
