Re: SEMI FINAL 1 - DISCUSSION - 21:00 CET

Ok so here is my review.

Montenegro.
Just no. NEXT!
Iceland. The best use of the backdrop by a mile. They sounded good and delivered a great performance.
Greece. She did ok. Didn't expect stellar vocals from her. Choreo slightly improved. I prefer Cyprus, but this one is fun too. One question... why is pretty girl wearing that horrible dress?
Latvia. What a waste of voice and charisma. I like the melody, I like the voice, she radiates confidence and calmness. But omg the song is so stupid. I wish it was in Latvian, so I wouldn't understand it and just enjoyed lol
Albania. I don't get all the fuss about her. I don't like her. Melody wise she was all over the place. First climb to the note she was perfect, second she was flat. In fact she was flat a lot and too screamy. She can't hold a candle to Sabina or Pastora.
Romania. Fun. I think something happened to her ear piece. She removed it and had tough time catching up to the rhythm. But she did after an instrumental break, so no worries.
Switzerland. I love the show they created with light and pyro. Not crazy about the song or voice. Prefer Hungary from all the rockers this year.
Belgium. I never heard the song in full. I liked it a lot, but she ruined the first half of it. She seems to struggle with low and low middle range, was flat in many instances. Once she got to the part of the song where she had to use her upper middle an upper register she was great.
Finland. One of my favorites, but I didn't like how they sped up the song. It lost part of it's magic. Too bad, cause she sang it well.
Israel. Way too weird for me.
San Marino. It was actually really good. My dad's favorite song of the semifinal lol She had fun and performed well.
Cyprus. Love, love LOVE the choreography. I was ready to kill the camera coordinator who kept showing her face up and close. Nothing against her, but this one is all about the dancing for me.
Denmark. I LOLed at the cello player. So out of the place but so into the performance. Not my cuppatea, but can't say anything bad about it. Yes, she was slightly out of tune, but it didn't ruin the song since it wasn't built around perfect vocals. I liked the approach to the performance: bunch of friends got together for an evening and randomly decided to jam.
Russia. They are adorable and cute and fluffy and so positive. I understand that they are not the best singers in the competition, and usually i'd be cringing as my ear is very sensitive to people singing out of tune. But for some reason I didn't care on this one. They have hypnotized me with their energy and love. It was quite telling how crazy the audience was for them. Usually it was juts the performing country flags waving, with few other flags here and there. During Babushki song EVERY FLAG IN THE BUILDING was waving signaling its owner's approval lol
Hungary. I like them a lot. They are my favorite rock act in the competition. They did great.
Austria. Surprisingly I enjoyed it. They brought the energy and lit up the stage. And I hate rap.
Moldova. BALAGAN! Loved the performance. It's just so fun and quirky, and energetic. The girl in the pink dress is a sick sick dancer. She was head and shoulders above everyone in that performance. My eye just drew to her.
Ireland. I liked hem a lot last year. I like how energetic and jumpy they are. They don't really take themselves seriously in an endearing way. Song is nothing special. I liked the mini-Belagio-fountain on the stage though :) and it's so like them to just jump into that fountain at the end. But I question the Tin Man costumes in the fountain...

My fav postcard was with dancing women in some castle. Those long flowy but heavy fabric dresses were amazing! I want one like that! Lol

As for qualifiers:
Romania – no surprise. Yay!
Moldova – did not expect but extremely happy. xhug
Iceland – expected. Very happyxcheer
Hungary – YES!!! xfruits:
Albania – meh, i'd rather have Finland. xcry
Denmark – meh i'd rather have Austriaxbutt lol i had to use that one ;)
Cyprus – had my fingers crossed, was ready for not qualifying. VERY VERY VERY HAPPY it did.xbounce
Greece – expected. xbored
Russia – it was a 99% qualifier. I'm excited for those ladies. xparty
Ireland – I guess it was somewhat expected. Jedward has quite a following. But honestly, i'd rather have San Marino.

Eurovision Song Contest 2012 - Semi Final 1 - Review
Hello, this is my review of Semi final 1. I will rate the songs from 1-10. Give some commentary and comment stage, design and how Azerbaijan handle this.

It is a really great opening, you see some of Azerbaijans corners and you can see the magnificent stage and the three hosts. The girl in the red dress (what is her name?) is a bit funny. But Eldar seems a bit layed back. I prefer Anke! ;)

I really loved the Swedish commentators, they we're great! They said what they thought (Gina commented after San Marino: I don't want to be the one saying this, but i think we just heard worlds worst song. Edward is laughing to her comment)

The stage is really great! It reminds me of a new version of the Russian stage in 2009. It is suitable for all kinds of songs!
And i really liked the 3D effects in the background.

What i think could have been better was that they could have been more in the green room and asked some questions. I mean that girl scared Valentina! I just have to say this must be the best semi-final ever! It had fantastic quality.

1. Montenegro - Rambo Amadeus - Euro Neuro
Haha, what the hell is this? It feels like a drunken poor man got a stagepass and just did something. This is not good!
1/10

2. Iceland - Greta & Jonsi - Never Forget
I love this! This is so great! Where can i find words, it has a fantastic sound and the music and lyrics who is all written by Greta is just fantastic! It has a exciting and dramatic sound and i promise you i will vote for it on Saturday and this was my absolute favorite of this great semifinal. But ofc, my number one is Loreen. But if not her, ICELAND!
9.5/10

3. Greece - Eleftheria Eleftheriou - Aphrodisiac
Actually, first i was dissapointed in Greece. They are always best if you ask me. But last year and this year they just sended **** according to me. But this song really was great live! Eleftheria can really deliver live and she is great. Reminds me of Helenas little sister who is fighting for Greece!
5/10

4. Latvia - Anmary - Beautiful Song
In my country they have really said that this is a bad songs. They think it is ridiculous. But i must say i think this is kind of beautiful (just as it says!) and it is a bit happy and catchy. The dancers are silly. But it sticks ALMOST likes Emmys: Boom Boom..
4.5/10

5. Albania - Rona Nishliu - Suus
Oh, what can i say. The auddience must love this. Did you guys hear how they cheared when she was screaming? I think jurys really liked it, televoters to! Im sure it made it until the top 3 in the semifinal. I think hear scream is kind of good, in a weird way. Pretty good song!
5.5/10

6. Romania - Mandiga - Zaleilah
This i really, really, really liked. It has a fantastic partysound and it is just so catchy, it's a real summerhit! On stage they really deliver. But i heard that the singer had hearing problems, does not she have the right to sing again? I think this song maybe won this semi final. But who knows? I really like this! Dough i do not like the drums in the background.
8/10

7. Switzerland - Sinplus - Unbreakable
I love this! They are soooo good. How could they not qualify? If they had, i would have voted it in on Saturday. To bad! They remind me of Coldplay. This was one of my favorite songs this semifinal (after Iceland). A great performance!
8.5/10

8. Belgium - Iris - Would You
Kind of boring, but its ok! The background reminds me of the Oslo design 2010. But a great lyrics!
3/10

9. Finland - Pernilla - När Jag Blundar
I liked this alot but i understanded that this would not qualify. Almost no one knows what she is singing? But i know ;)
A really beautiful song. But to bad, not a 100% nordic final after all this year..

10. Israel - Izabo - Time
It feels like i'm in Japan when i hear this. But this is still from Israel..
It sounds like something from a kids album. Haha i actually laugh when i hear this.
The true stars of this performance is the background singers! They are so cute. Especially the girl!
4/10

11. San Marino - Valentina Monetta - The Social Network Song
This song scares me a bit, but Valentina is my friend on Facebook! (And it was her who sended the request, cool!)
I really like Valentina as a person, she seems so nice! But this song is just terrible. Why don't Ralph Siegell give everything he has and write a nice pop-song for Valentina so she can take San Marino to the final for the first time!?!? Because this song is just ****. But still not:lol:
4/10

12. Cyprus - Iva Adamou - La La Love
Typhical europic pop! I like it, much! This has a great chanse winning this this year. A good performance and a great song. Iva is so beautiful, and the dancers are great. But it is not a surprise this was one of the qualifier. A big chanse this won this semi final.
8/10

13. Denmark - Soluna Samay - Should've Known Better
Soluna is a great singer! The lyrics is fantastic, my favorite part is: I miss you like the Sahara misses the rain.
My friend was so worried that this would not qualify, but it did! The background is great with the sunroses, clouds ETC.
A great song!
7/10

14. Russia - Buranovskiye Babushki - Party For Everybody xcheer
Hahaha! This is so funny, they are making cookies/bread on the stage! Russia makes Europe almost crying, they are sooo cute!
The song is nothing i enjoy like Pitbull or something, but it is still one of my favorites this year! I thought jury was going to kill Russia. But Europe loves Russia! xkiss
9/10

15. Hungary - Compact Disco - The Sound Of Our Hearts
The name of the band tells you what kind of music this is. I really like it! It is a combination of Owl City, Coldplay and Donkeyboys. It is a really great song and i think jury really liked this. But i thought it would not qualify. Because it is very good songs in this semi final. And they took starting number 2 for the final! Peuh, Loreen you are save!
7/10

16. Austria - Trackshittaz - Woki Mit Deim Popo
This is catchy! But the effect with the butts does not just work. It looks so stupid. This feels so dirty, but still a bit good. :?
Still great partysound :D
5/10

17. Moldova - Pasha Perfany - Lautar
I really don't like this! His clothes are terrible, the dancers to! The song just sucks and it makes me ill. Austria we're better then this! How the hell can they always make it to the final? Just sending ****! I mean last year?! How could the jury not make them stay in the semi final?
1/10

18. Ireland - Jedward - Waterline
Lets face it, Lipstick was much better then this. But i still like this. The fontain looks a bit stupid, they should have rain comming from the roof. Like Eric Saade in 2010! But this performance looks a little bit stupid, but the song is pretty good! I don't think Sweden will give it 12p but maybe 8p? Great clothes! Great hair!
6/10

I must say i would like to replace Moldova with Switzerland to the final. But this was a really great semi final! 1000X better then the first one in OLSO.

Re: SEMI FINAL 1 - DISCUSSION - 21:00 CET

It's always random, they used almost the same graphics as they did last year in Germany but it's all just in random order.

Is this true? I've got the impression that they choose their own order to present the qualifiers. And in that case it would not be random...

If only Latvia and Finland had passed instead of Greece and Moldova it would have been perfect.

I'm pretty happy that they were the only casualties though.

I think when they say random, they mean that it's not in an obvious order (e.g. 1st to 10th, or alphabetical). But I don't think it's randomly generated - I think they choose an order they believe will be the most exciting for viewers.

I don't think it's THAT random... Sometimes the camera shows "on purpose" the next qualifier! At least last year it was too obvious!

I'm actually glad Romania didn't have a chance to perform again, Elena just proved she was a true, real singer. :D

Aaaanyway, I just don't get Moldovan song, that was my least fave qualifier last night. :? But the rest was mostly ok, really glad Cyprus made it, thought she was kinda in danger... And I also started loving Icelandic song. xheart

It is true! Jan Ola Sand chooses in what order it should be. Last year making Eric Saade mad placing him as qualifier nr 10.

Don't think we should be too surprised if they've placed Sweden in the 10th envelope again this year. :p
Seems they purposely place the big favorites near the end.

Well it couldnt have been that random, as they must have had the golden ticket with Ireland written on it printed out before the results began...

And that looooooooonnng walking shot of Jedward behaving like children on crack (as usual) could not have been coincidental, because it wouldn't have been possible if they'd not been announced last.

And they do indeed always film the qualifier that is going to be announced next, plus one or two others to keep the suspense going.

All in all I thought it was a great night. All my favourites qualified, except for Latvia and Finland. The really bad entries were relegated and I am GLAD! This is such a change from 2011 when loads of songs I liked didn't qualify.

Better than expected performances: Albania; Finland; Switzerland; Moldova; San Marino
Worse than expected performances: Montenegro (even though my expectations were already extremely low); GREECE!!!!!!; Ireland (it lacked some punch IMO)

Re: SEMI FINAL 1 - DISCUSSION - 21:00 CET

Gr8 stage. It doesn't distract attention from performers, it helps to concentrate on them. I really liked lights and camera work, though there were few minor screw ups. Eldar was weird as always  Nargiz seemed a lil' bit slow/wooden, I really liked Leyla.

For the 1st time I watched the 1st semi with my mom, this time our opinions almost coincided.
Our 1st general impression - ESC had better editions and there was not a single outstanding song. Though there were good performers.

Russia was the ultimate fave, we had a good laugh
Iceland - their vocals didn't match and Greta performed rather solo than in a duo. Though they looked fantastic and after Montenegro it sounded chef d'œuvral )))
Albania - weird song and awesome performer. Probably the only one who felt the full unity with the song.
Surprisingly we both liked Cyprus...
Ireland - we really disliked them last year but this year they seemed much better. Fun, immature, happy, kids would love them )))

We didn't mind to see Latvia and Finland in the final, but oh well.

The interval act was awesome.
After Montenegro our commentators said "if you're still with us after this..."
Before showing "Big 5 + AZ" clips in the end NTU experienced some technical problems and switched to our back-up Kyiv commentator (I had Dusseldorf 1st semi flashback  ). Last year she sounded excellent, this time she was on dope xhippy Giggling without reason etc. ))))

Happy for Greece and Cyprus.
Not happy because Belgium, Finland, Israel and Latvia didn't make it.
Extremely not happy because Albania and Ireland made it.
