Dear friends. Today a very special woman from San Marino simply taught us that anything is possible in life. Maybe things can happen for us. There will be dark times but we must not dwell. Who knows, perhaps their is a pearl in our shell? I know that tonight Valentina had one in hers.

The road to this moment was long and arduous. This past year especially has been hard. Many lost faith along the way. I almost allowed myself to wallow in the dreadful possibility of failure but I didn't. We were right to believe in Valentina all along. Valentina is in essence, the spirit of the contest. She is what it's all about. Reaching out to people, no matter what country you are from. Sharing your heart freely, the dark parts and the light.. and that is what Valentina did with "Maybe".

I thank Valentina for a lot of things. Such joy she has brought us all over the past three years. I thank her most though for interpreting these songs so honestly. For fighting on. For showing us that anything is possible. Never say never. For bringing us all together here. For making us laugh, for making us cry. People thought this was the end but they couldn't have been further off. We've only just begun.

What will happen from here? Who knows... but one thing that's certain is the place Valentina has cemented for herself in a lot of our hearts.

Thank you Valentina.

Those were the words I was looking forward to ! xrose

What you say is not untrue. She's the proof that one can achieve his dreams if he believes in himself ! :)
BTW, Valentina seemed really beyond herself tonight, like she was possessed. I'm certain she had your words in her heart and they gave her all the force to achieve it. ;)

And you know, sometimes, as we say in French, life is a slut, and especially when you are a very sensitive person, and I presume we are many by there. But sure you can believe in yourself and in your life because you're a great person, seeing through hearts, clever, generous and very creative so you have all the roads open to have a great and peaceful (and creative and artistic ;) ) life ! :D

The press conference is the most hysterical thing ever. The accents on display. The guy in the red from Pollaponk, the people from the audience asking questionsxrofl2

Incredibly strong accents for the win xyes

 Icelandic accent is always the cutest !
Oh Icelandic are cute aren't they ? And peaceful, calm and tolerant. I should move there ! xrofl3

I still can't believe it. I honestly thought she had no chance. Crisalide was the better song, but this year her stage performance was more honest and authentic. Maybe that made a difference.

I am really so very happy for her, it was so touching watching her at the press conference, you could just tell by the look on her face what this meant for her! Crisalide last year was my absolute fav song, and I felt so disappointed when she didnt pass, but this year, WOW, things worked out for her!

Never say never guys, true story!!!!!

I don't think San Marino qualified for the song - it's totally meaningless, especially compared to Crisalide. But I'm totally fine with that! Every country should be able to get to the final.

I think they qualified because of Valentina - she became a star and Eurovision sensation without having qualified twice. Her fans and the juries carried her to her deserved final.

Maybe, Andorra and Monaco return then...

That's what my Mother said tonight, that my words were with her.. watching it back, Valentina did seem possessed by something. Just look at her eyes, watery throughout and with a glint in them. I think Valentina has been overwhelmed by everyones support these past few years but she must have noticed the massive drop after last year. The year prior she was a massive fan favourite and this year so many jumped ship. Imagine how that must have felt for her? Getting my message through to Valentina really was the most special moment for me.. probably ever in my life. Sounds silly but it's true. It really was a wonderful moment and I hope it did help her find strength inside.

Valentina does inspire me. Even in the dark moments, I can find peaceful solitude and comfort in her songs. It doesn't even matter to me that they are Ralph Siegel relics from 800 years ago, Valentina makes them special. She's a one of a kind...

And despite what some people say, I think this was the right moment, the right song for her to reach the final with. This one really did touch me.

But I really don't believe the song was meaningless. It passed for quite the opposite reason. "Maybe" was poignant, devastating in moments.

"Crisalide" was uplifting. Valentina emerging from the year before. "Maybe" is a lament. Valentina put everything on the line in that song. Valentina sings of all the things that could happen but nothing is certain. Her voice is achingly blunt and honest. Her pain and longing is up front. It's a song of hope but you literally hear Valentina's struggle throughout. I can see very clearly why this went through over "Crisalide" (even though both should have made it).

I don't think her fan base would have been enough to carry her alone, especially as many fans lost interest in her this year. It really was the song.

They qualified, because the song itsel tells her story, and she put a lot of passion in the performance because of that. In the 3 minutes on stage, Valentina told everyone her life and that actually was touching. This was indeed the big difference with last year. Music is strange thing - you think that one song is better than another, but the only that matters is the emotion and the passion. So Valentina was spot on with that and I'm very proud for her and San Marino!

Valentina is an awesome girl and beside her being awesome I liked her song + performance too!

But why did her eyes appear so black? Her eyes aren't that dark. For a moment I thought she was wearing black eye contacts

well, I must say that I wasn't that convinced by Crisalide  and by far I prefer that one... Well maybeee it's because it's so reminiscent of French 70s music that I love in secret (:oops::oops: I listen to real music as well ! ) but I find that one way more meaningful. Maybeeee as well because I understand more the question of wondering why and hope than the message of the butterfly blossoming, I don't know, perhaps !

And last year she was 2nd, and very nervous. The dress, the ball, it seemed... not ready, while tonight she was really great and vocally perfect, and really powerful.

Oh, you know, for the French blogs where I write articles with a now Eurofriend, we interviewed her by mail, and asked what would be her perfect day, and she answered : "To wake up, make love, eat, sing and dance while drinking good wine.; D" And we asked her who would she be if she could be someone else and answered Lady D, to be able to help the others. And she said she loved kitesurfing

Oh we interviewed several singers (who dared to answer us, which was the case of half of them). The best person was the singer of Aarzermnieki. he's a great man ! :)

Awwww yaaaayyy!! Valentina's finally through! Although she should have qualified with Crisalide last year (still melodically a far better song for me) her performance tonight was so genuine and touching that I was rooting for her all the way xup

I didn't like "Maybe" that much, I would rate it as 10th or 11th of the semi.
But after tonight my opinion totally changed! Valentina was just amazing and I am so happy (but shocked) that San Marino are in the final this year! Go Valentina, no matter where you finish in the final, you have proved that you deserve a lot in life :D

Plus, this gives me a great argument to use against people when they say eurovision is all political or neighbour voting

Hello my fans, hello ESCUNITED.

Tonight we party all night long in San Marino. I cannot tell you how my heart feels. Very strong emotions. I feel very appy at last and I would like Matt to give me my job back on the Expert Panel next year.

I want to give my special greetings and regards to all the fans that supported us. I hope you all look forward to Valentina's entry next year and please continue your support this Saturday. I believe there is a pearl in all of our shells.. even the roughest, dirtiest shells. Even the shells that don't believe in Valentina, there is still a chance for a pearl in your shell non believers... Maybe. Yes, maybe you can no? Yes, Maybe.

Thank you once again my fans, Thank you ESCUNITED. I hope to see you all next year in the City of San Marino. My heart for you, with the warmest regards and love,

Valentino.

Seriously, what did she do personally to you guys that you like her so much? :? She's just an average singer from a small country xshrug Plus, the 2012 entry was much better than this.

It must be nice not seeing the joy in anything even for a fleeting moment :)
