Re: RUSSIA 2016

Well I agree with you USA is somewhat in the same boat and for example Israel as well. The Brits may be headstrong sometimes, but it was a long time ago they waged war of aggression and centuries ago they were any threat to their neighbours. What I'm saying isn't an exact science and I would never feel the same way towards for example Israel. Sympathies and respect are earned qualities, nothing you can demand or expect being fair. Perhaps it is true Russia has a longer way to go than others to meet trust and respect. It surely doesn't help when they're rushing in the opposite direction

And who is that who can say what is right direction? Assad is on western eyes dictator and tyrant (even we all know that Assad's Syria is only secularised Arab state on Middle East) and is legitimate to fight against him, but hey Saudi King is democratic ruler cause his country is US alliance. For me personally Assad is amateur compared to for example Turkish president.

We goes to far in offtopic here

Well, it all started with the accusation of "Swedish gay fans" ruling all of Eurovision and booing everything Russian. It's was getting really tedious years ago already to see this constant bashing of Sweden at every possible opportunity. If you are annoyed by Russia being criticised, don't take it out on Sweden for crying out loud! :D

ps. Meladze gang etc. Considering that my dad knew him since his student days I can guess what kind of person he is and I'm thankful that he gets your money. Bigger = better. If it was my will I'd sent them all to you

As for Russian entry. As long as it's not another hypocrite twisted song about peace and respect that would be gr8 and a nice step forward.

Just pointing out facts, not division. All I'm saying is that considering the circumstances, I find it hard to see that Russian TV will pick a Ukrainian as their entrant or vice versa. Of course acts are having careers and are popular in both countries, I never said they weren't, but just remember all the reactions back in 2009 when Anastasiya represented Russia?, and it wasn't even a "crisis" like now... just saying.

Re: RUSSIA 2016

From what I gather Ukrainians and Russians in general don't have a problem with each other at all xshrug

Those who do are only a small minority with their own special interests. And as always the minority always chants the loudest making it sound like their the majority when in reality their not xdoh

It seems the West would like to see Ukrainians and Russians hate each other and keep saying they do but the truth is they don't know much about everything as they claim they do.

Then 90% Russians (according to latest stats) who support their president are bipolar or delusional because liking Putin and liking/being neutral to Ukrainians is impossible. You rather steal from/murder us or like us.
Anyway. I won't be surprised that their entry will get our 12pts from televoting no matter what they send. Just like we won't get 12pts from them for sure.
So I guess minority is the voice of sanity but their million (what an irony) voices won't be heard.

Those who do are only a small minority with their own special interests.
ps. Gimme my "special interests" bishez  Wait a sec. I have none. Dayum!

Re: RUSSIA 2016

Maybe we should stop discussing politics. Yes, maybe politics of my country is far from being ideal, I don't like things did by president of my country, but we are here to discuss music. Because now it seems like if Russia sends in 2017 ideal song, it would be hated just because it's Russia. Is it tolerance? I think not.

So in order to change the topic in Russian ESC thread, I'll post some artists I want to see from Russia

Peace to everyone xheart

Maybe it was because people didn't like "Mamo" at all. I'm neutral to Anastasiya, but as for me Mamo is really one of the worst russian entries sent to ESC (along with Lost And Forgotten)

Funny, I happen to think it's the best Russian entry to date (I for one can't stand the imported English lyrics "peace and love" cheese that has been sent for the past years)... but that's irrelevant... the reactions were targeting the choice of artist (being Ukrainian) and that parts of the lyrics being in Ukrainian and not the actual entry itself. Of course I don't refer to the common comments about "like" or "dislike" the song, that's happening every year with every chosen entry from every country, there will always be haters and lovers of a song so that's hardly uncommon.

Maybe it's not because she was ukrainian, maybe it was because country with population over 140 millions people sends artist from the country that can be compared with the region of the bigger one?

It's like Italy goes with artist from San Marino, like it was no choice

Re: RUSSIA 2016

Mamo and Lost and Forgotten are my two favourite Russian entries.

I'd love them to go back to that sort of music rather than the fake peace and love ballads they now send. They're not real music. They're just cynically designed identikit reality winners songs with added world peace to win over the gullible. They're almost parodies of Eurovision peace songs.

It's not simply the politics that makes me hate Russia at ESC. It's the way that politics influences the crap they send.

Preach! "Mamo" was beyond awesome to me, and "Lost and Forgotten" isn't far behind xcheer It's definitely the Russia I'd like to see and hear again in the contest.

I don't get why people may prefer fake songs like "What If" and "A Million Voices" tbh, it's so formulaic and so not representative of the Russian music.

In my opinion, the Russian delegation is just wasting talents (RIP Dina's and Polina's potential) on unadventurous entries. And that's strange because Russia CAN afford sending true interesting music as they qualify all the time.

I hope for a change next year, I enjoyed "Shine" but three songs about peace in a row are more than enough. I want genuine songs.

Re: RUSSIA 2016

I agree as well that Russia's style is definitely in need of a change, even though I liked "A million voices" very much. A more traditional ballad like "Mamo" would be welcomed, or something like "Song#1" as I miss that kind of music in Eurovision.

Re: RUSSIA 2016

Everybody hated "Mamo" and "Lost and Forgotten" when they were competing now suddenly their the best Russia has sent  They placed outside the top 10 and even then people said they finished too high. Its popular to trash the Russian entry the year its competing and then praise it later on when it gives them a chance to trash the current one

Those type of songs will NEVER come close to winning, something the Russians involved in ESC and people here know deep down. And judging from the reaction of Polina's placement last year that's pretty much what people here seem to want, Russia out of the running before it even starts xshrug

Mamo came 10th. And do you know if us who are praising that song said we didn't like it back in 2009? That sounds a little bit too ridiculous.
And even more ridiculous is suggesting someone wants Russia to flop just because they like the 2009 and 2010 entries instead of the recent ones. It's a matter of taste. If you read these comments and that's what you automatically think, I think your view is too skewed and biased to judge our opinions properly.

I loved both songs at the time and never understood people's hatred of them.

It's not as if it's a straight choice between competing for the top spots and sending cliched ballads. The likes of Serebro and Dima managed to do well while sending normal pop songs.

What I hate about the current Russian songs is that they are so cynically constructed to gather votes with no attempt at creating anything modern or musically interesting. I find it thoroughly depressing that such trash still does well. My country repeatedly underperforms at Eurovision, but I'd much rather that than repeatedly send stuff that makes Eurovision look so awful.

Re: RUSSIA 2016

Same. I've always loved the aforementioned songs and always disliked the uninventive ballads they've sent recently. And I don't care if it's Russia or another country, had "A Millions Voices" been sent by the UK, Greece or Norway, it wouldn't have changed my opinion about it. Songs like these are specific to the contest.

The issue I have is that Russia's music scene has a big potential for the contest, and I find it sad to come up with songs like those while they could promote the material that's genuinely liked by people in the country.

Of course, there will always be some people who'll say Russia is trash mainly because it's Russia, but I don't think that was the point of our discussion. Even with those songs made to please everyone, they didn't win (both in 2013 and 2015), so why not get back to genuineness?
