Yes, in 2006 he deserved to win far more than (though he wasn't the best in 2006 either though imo)... in 2008 however there were so much better options

He has some good songs yes I admit...

Yes I believe it to but it's a bit srange situation for me because I know that he didn't deserve to win and there was much better songs but I'm happy that he won because it's the first time that one of my fave songs won...

We'll never know but it was a solid song and it made people sit up and take notice of Eurovision (not to mention giving Finland their long-awaited win) so it was a particularly important entry all-round.

Actually, invading another country is a serious offense. Serbia was banned from international events like ESC for a decade or so, wouldn't it be fair to do something similar with Russia?

But we all know it won't happen... EBU has proven itself that it can't even protect its own rules

Yeah, we were talking in the Ukrainian thread about them possibly withdrawing, but at this point, I think Russia should be banned from participating until they get their act together. Say what you want about issues in any other ESC country, but nobody else is invading their neighbors. Russia should not be given this international platform to spread more propaganda.

Yes, put on some troll masks, use firework stage effects and of course people will take notice ... I'm still not sure it would have won or even reach top. 10 without it though but that's hard to prove

I hope not because it's totally related (and everyone who still pretends politics aren't involved in ESC should wake up and smell the coffee finally). If mods would delete this discussion then they have no knowledge of Eurovision history and are simply censoring a relevant (on-topic) discussion...

Serbia was banned from international events like these back in the 90's and that's why we didn't see Serbia in ESC for a decade since the break-up of Yugoslavia, now whether one agrees or not with a banning like that is a different question, but when one ESC country is invading another it's highly relevant to discuss whether it's ethical or not to allow them in the contest.

Why? We're not discussing politics, we're discussing how the politics should or shouldn't' have an effect on ESC. It's a valid discussion given what's going on.
