You are free to allow or not allow someone in your game, but once you allow him, you can't kick him out. That's a basic rule of life.

EBU is well known for ignoring the rules whenever they want (hello Australia!), so please, don't treat us as fools.

WTF is this nonsense. Of course you can, especially if that someone owes you 15 million euros.

And let's be reasonable, if Australia's participation actually was against the rules, I'm sure at least some of the other 40+ participants would have expressed their disapproval and made it publicly known.

I guess his point was that EBU should have responsed that way before Romania prepared a national final, or after Eurovision season is over, which is reasonable point to be honest. I still don't get why EBU kept themselves in no words all this time but just 3 weeks before the contest, everything happened in a sudden. There was even a deadline for song submission and EBU checked all the songs if they are suitable.

Eh?

" Since 2010 numerous attempts have been made to restructure the debt owed and payment plans agreed that have not been adhered to. The EBU has written to the Romanian government on four separate occasions this year alone and received no reply.

In a final letter to the Finance Minister of Romania Anca Dragu sent on 15 April the EBU requested a down payment of CHF 10 million to be received in the EBU´s bank account by close of business on Wednesday 20 April 2016. The Union also asked to receive an unconditional and irrevocable bank guarantee for the remaining CHF 6 million, supported by a payment plan by the end of the year.

The deadline was extended until Thursday 21 April but no payment was made. "

I meant revealing all issues in public. 15 million Euro debt doesn't happen to exist in a moment, of course.

I never thought that there are no exceptions. You are one, still the expresion "we all" refers at a majority. If you didn't care about "we all", why do you think that "we all" will care that you didn't or something regarding your person? Also, if "we all" feel humiliated we don't care that you considere that is your fault. My fault for sure is not. You should understand that "we all" feel no guilt for this, but feel humiliated. It is TVR fault, not mine. If you considere that is your fault, asume it and respect the pain of "we all" or simple, get a life... alone, in that life you should not care anymore about the others feeling. Ah, and "we all" accept that you are sooo special. Why should you live between us?

Stop whining so much! Stop accusing EBU all the time! This is getting annoying! We won't be at Stockholm... SO WHAT?! It is not the end of the world! We still can watch Eurovison and enjoy the whole show.
"We, the majority"... The majority of Romanians are not interested in Eurovision, as far as I know.

Frate, atata smiorcaiala!

Actually, unless something has changed and I've missed it, TVR have also lost the rights to air Eurovision at all. So you can't watch it on TV. You'll either have to watch online or get the stream from another country. xshrug

Hahah EBU breach their own rules all the time, so I don't see any sensible reason that could be an excuse for them to refuse ProTV to broadcast the show. SBS is not a member of EBU and they are allowed to participate.

They should allow Pro TV to broadcast the show if they're able to pay the broadcasting fees. But they shouldn't allow them to actually participate

It's not that TVR is just out of Eurovision. They are out of EBU which involves so much more.
This year for example broadcasting of the European Football Championship and the Olympic Games.
It's likely that EBU wanted to give them at least a chance to sort things out for sport.
Did people in Rumania already realize that they might miss much more than "just" Eurovision in their TV's?

It is known. That's why the entire situation is even more discussed than I've expected. TVR has zero chances to manage this shit in the next...decade.

Swedish TV4 (who picked JESC songs for Sweden 2006, 2007 and 2009) are also a member of EBU and is commercial as well, so I don't know what the hell they are talking about. :?
Well maybe it is just so that Pro TV has to wait till next year to first join EBU and then later join Eurovision...so sadly Romania is almost certain out 2017 and if unlucky also 2018. :/

Oh, I noticed now a 1-year old article where TV4 explains why they are a part of EBU.
https://vipatv.svt.se/204/fordjupning/arkiv-for-fordjupning/2015-05-19-vad-gor-tv4-i-ebu.html

Apperently, they joined in 2004, in a time where they followed the strict format that EBU has, thanks to swedish law about sending TV in Sweden in the 90s.

- The members should follow a few criterias such as having an official mission to show a big well balanced variety of programs and include minorities, said Michelle Roverelli at the EBU.

Things has changed though in Sweden, where they are allowed to air much more commercials now than back then, so if they were to join now, they would probably not be accepted.

So I guess Pro-TV need to air less commercial and put in some different programs to have a shot of joining the EBU. :/

"No news yet. They try to ignore us. But we created noise in international media today. So lets continue pushing. This was a starting point."

What's the reaction in Romania been like to this? Has it been covered by the media? Who gets the blame? Etc.

When that shit happened I was so angry, I understood they didn't pay what they should, but to disqualify them in this way is more than horrific!! :?
