Re: ROMÂNIA - Romania 2011

Yes! We have House songs even in Greek! :D

Wel, not even :se: that is the 2nd most succesful Eurovision country doesen't send songs in national language. I don't remember a song in Sweedish for years. Even this year when they had that awesomes ,,Kom" they prefered a song in English!

And why do you have to be like everyone else? I just hate the attitude of Romanians who find their language not good enough for singing and sing only in that stupid English which they can't even pronounce properly... And Romanian is the most interesting-sounding language from Europe, probably. I found myself trying to read some pieces of text on a wrapper from some chips we've eaten.

Well O-Zone/Haiducii had a worldwide hit much bigger than those mentioned so why not?

In 1993 we sent Dida Dragan with a song in Romanian, but all the people from here said that Laurentiu Cazan should have won with probably first English song made in Romania, I still think that "Say something" is one of the best songs I ever heard and I am sure that could have won the ESC in 1993:

Ehm... back then there was a language rule so I can't see how you could have send a song in English anyhow, so your comment makes no sense :?

I will help clarify this issue. The most universal language we have is English
People can relate to a song a LOT more if they can understand the words
Thus we have to send English songs or otherwise we are being straight stupid

Any country can send a song in any language. There is no rule in ESC that says it has to be English if you're going to sing in another language.

If Romania wants to sing in English, then let it be.

The attitude that a country would be "stupid" not to send a song in English is being STRAIGHT STUPID in itself! Nuff said!

But hey if English makes you happy then go for it, but there's nothing stupid in sending entries in native language and that attitude is ignorant and laughable and one obviously missed that it's called EUROvision.

^The only reason it's called Eurovision is because it was named after the network in the EBU where broadcasters exchanged programming.

Otherwise, the name just implies that its something from Europe.

Exactly and Europe is more than just English. Until 1999 there was even a national language rule.

I just find the attitude that English is better or that it's stupid to send entries in national language pure stupidity.

^ I agree but I don't think you can fault a country either for deciding to send a song in a different language either be that English, French, Spanish, etc.

Well, I never said that, I reacted at comments that it should not even think about sending an non-English entry and that it would be stupid to do so.

But I can't deny I prefer entries in native language, but I know why countries doesn't always send these entries.

I'd wish though that people started to care about the diversity of Europe and that it is partly this we should celebrate and not only the commercial aspect of Eurovision. People talk about "understanding lyrics", but music is art and languages can be used in this form of art. I think music often speaks for itself and many times a different language actually makes a song more interesting in many ways.

Let's just pick "Rändajad" as some random example. For sure that song would lose alot of feeling if sung in English, i'm pretty sure.

^^In other topics you have spoken against the use of English. That is your opinion but there is a free language rule and countries can choose to send songs in whatever language they want. Sometimes they choose their native language, sometimes English, and sometimes some other language.

If Romania wants to send a song in English then they are entirely entitled to do so, its not like they haven't sent a song in their native language recently. In 2008 they sang in Italian and Romanian.

Again I said this is what I personally prefer, never said countries HAD to do so though and again if you read my comments you should understand that my reaction was against people who oppose use of native language for some odd reasons like it's stupid and such, and nothing else.

Obviously countries are entitled to choose whatever and people are entitled to their opinions aswell, never said they weren't. But since it's a discussion board I might well react when someone so strongly oppose the use of native language for reasons as it should be stupid or similar.

^^ Thinking about certain things that they are real, because you think they are, doesn't make those things a fact ;)
