So overall...I gotta say a pretty unfortunate set of first rehearsals. :cy: is unexpectedly serving vocals, but what else are they serving? :ua: :ua: :ua: :ua: :ua:. :be: were good, too. Albina from :hr: has more stage presence than she did before but the song is still a damp squib and the vocals weren't there. Other than that........even :sl:, which as you know I love, felt like an off day from Ana.

My impressions for semi 1 so far:

:lt: :cy: :ua: had the best first rehearsals imo: The Roop kept their concept, Elena delivered and Go_A exceeded expectations.
:ie: looks interesting as it will be a performance to fully appreciate on TV, but the vocals clocked out early...
:hr: :il: :az: Same market, same decent stagings, so far I can't decide who's more convincing. None of them are safe imo.
:no: :se: Same concept as in the NF, not much to say about it.
:ru: I'm not feeling that giant dress, but that will stick in people's minds for sure. Nice backdrops.
:ro: I'm okay with the conceptual staging, similar to the MV. Too bad the outfit stays and the vocals are all over the place.
:sl: Not impressed by the "we are the world" kind of background and colour scheme. It makes the song even cheesier imo.
:be: Vocals on point as usual but a disappointment visually speaking. Faces on backdrops are a bad idea, and it's so lazy.
:mt: The car crash.com What is going on there? It gives me Sandhja "Sing It Away" teas. Major changes are required asap!
:mk: lol
:au: I can't say how it's going to look like since the preview shows nothing, but I appreciate Montaigne's looks.

As expected, SJB wrecked Destiny's chances. Who decided to put her in that outfit and pink need to get fired immediately. She looked awkward in them. Vocally served as expected. But as I have predicted, she seemed to be a little static at times. I mean besides doing the hand-o-graphy, I don't think she is doing much except standing there to belt.

For me, this is how I ranked:

Above Expectations
- Cyprus
- Croatia

Expectations Met
- Ukraine
- Norway

Expectations Not Met
- Malta
- Israel
- Belgium
- Romania
- Azerbaijan

But as usual, this is the first rehearsals and I believe there are still some amendments to be expected. So I am pretty sure those under the "Expectations Not Met" with technicalities/staging/camera angles issues will improve as the rehearsals go. I mean "The Netherlands" went through rocky rehearsals only to come out victorious in2019. So I am not ruling those who have an "unsatisfactory" first rehearsal out.

Here are my impressions of semi 1 so far :

:lt: The staging looks so bland, and I don't understand the colour choice but well

:sl: Ana's vocals are really great and the staging looks amazing

:ru: One word, EPIC

:se: The light play is okay, and Tusse seem to have improved vocally, I'm still not a fan of the song

:au: I really light the changement of lights behind Montaigne !

:mk: I like the staging except that outfit that they showed, Dotter wants her outfit back :lol:

:ie: Her vocals looked weak but I'm not worried, the staging really 100% fits the song

:cy: That staging looks really great, Elena has also great vocals !

:no: Nothing changed since the NF, still in love with the costume and the staging

:hr: Am not a fan of the outfit but the staging looks amazing

:be: I got funeral vibes :lol:

:il: Clearly not impressed but I don't get negative vibes, it looks like an okay staging

:ro: I think that the idea of dancing is not good but well let's see, I hope that her vocals will improve

:az: Her vocals are great ! I'm not convinced by the staging but Efendi is a queen, she'll slay

:ua: The best staging IMO

:mt: I really don't like the outfit, I never liked the song but now it screams flop

Ukraine so far for me is the winner of the rehearsals, absolutely stunning performance. My concerns are with romania, like it has already been said, the staging looks good and fitting to the meaning of the song like the videoclip, but she needs to work hard on her voice. After seeing her live session I was optimistic, but now I'm really worried...

(shoutout to france now being in the right place in the odds after malta's rehearsal xD)

I somehow hoped Ukraine would have a great staging but I didn't actually expect they'd slay Malta in terms of an actual idea. I think they'll be in TOP3 of the night, along with Malta and Sweden.

Slovenia impressed me the most (smidge bias perhaps). Not surprised to see the positive reactions. It was inevitable. People sleep on stuff like this every year until the rehearsals when the signs were there from the very beginning. Biggest positive surprise was Russia. I thought their entry was in BIG, big trouble but I've got a feeling they might have just saved it. Very memorable, fun and quirky. I dislike Croatia's song and thought it would be a non qualifier here, but props where props are due. Staging looks slick, Albina looks great as do her backing dancers and the vocals were strong. Ukraine as well were very good.

Overall though I don't think I've ever been less excited looking through Eurovision rehearsals. The proper fun for me starts tomorrow. The majority of my favourite songs are there.

Unlike yesterday, I've got quite a lot of thoughts today. Many of them are about outfits for some reason...
  • :no: I wish they'd changed Tix's outfit, but I'm not surprised they didn't
  • :hr: I'm liking the outfits and color palette!
  • :il: Not sure the staging with the dancers is working for me. Also would've liked to see Eden in an outfit more like the grey one in the music video
  • :ro: Was she saving her voice or is there something else going on with the vocals here? Hopefully this isn't the final sound
  • :az: Stage looks cool and so do the outfits
  • :ua: Love Kate's green fluffy jacket-thing (yes, I do know why it's green), love the foresty look of the stage, very curious to see the camera work in relation to the running mannequins on the screen
  • :mt: I feel like hot pink wasn't the color. I don't find it offensive, but I think a better choice could've been made

-Roxen needs to improve her vocals, and that's coming from me, who finds Lesley's voice quite pleasant. :mrgreen:
-Israel has been a fader for me, but i still like the song and i still have it as my qualifier.
-I looooove Albina's outfit :love:
-I'm glad Slovenia added that more powerful gospel part at the end. I'm not sure if it's gonna be enough, but i appreciate the effort.
-Cyprus and Azerbaijan are fighting for a higher position.. I'm giving Cyprus the advantage for now.
-Ireland came dangerusly close to Russia on my list, but Russia stays in front.
-The rest is same old, same old.

Based on the short clips (so EVERYTHING can basically change):

Winners are Belgium, Norway and Azerbaijan as well as the ladies from Croatia and Cyprus.

Not very good: Israel & Malta

Will either work really well or completely fail: Romania

Outstandingly good or weird, I‘m on the fence right now 😂 : Ukraine

I'm disappointed with Israel and Romania. Now I think Belgium and Croatia have more chances to qualify.
99% that I will vote for Croatia and Lithuania in semi final.

I'm not a fan of Malta's song but I feel bad for Destiny

I'll be glad to see Ukraine do well but honestly I don't care about the song
