I’ve tried to write
A million other songs but
Somehow I can’t move on, oh you’re gone

Takes time, alright
And I know it’s no one’s fault but
Somehow I can’t move on, oh you’re gone

Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way

Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way

Tem tanto que trago comigo
Foi sempre o meu porto de abrigo
E agora nada faz sentido
Perdi o meu melhor amigo

E se não for demais
Peço por sinais
Resta uma só palavra

Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way

Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way

Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way

I’ve tried, alright
But it’s killing me inside
Thought you’d be by my side always

I haven't been able to stop listening to Saudade, Saudade since it won the selection. It's such a beautiful, haunting song that deeply soothes. I liked it very much from the get go but with each listen my fondness grows stronger to the point now where I think it may quite possibly become my favourite Portuguese entry ever.

There's just something so warm and comforting here that manages to float above the melancholy. It's gorgeous dream pop. Such entries are rare enough at the contest and when they do come they tend to lack a weightiness that I not only long for but need with this kind of music. I think a big part of that is down to MARO's rich, earthly vocals. The performances I've watched, particularly the acoustic and piano versions are mesmerising. Saudade, Saudade is a poignant song I can get lost in for hours. It's so, so very good

:12: points for this tender, sincere entry. I hope it does very well at the contest.
Yeeeees!! I felt this from the beginning..
So glad you finally mannaged to reconguze the fantastic melancholy of it.. 😍🙏🙂

There are some songs that make me proud to be a fan of Eurovision because I find it an honor that they come to the contest stage to enrich it and make it special. "Saudade Saudade" is one of them, my unrivaled number one this year and one of my favorite songs in the entire history of the contest.

I had already written here weeks ago, before the Portuguese festival began, about the effect this song had on me: a melancholic liberating cry. Today, it continues to have the same effect on me with every listen. I find that even the individual notes have been chosen with special care here because from the very first ones I feel shaken with emotion.

This has to do with memories I have of Portugal from a trip I took several years ago with my ex-boyfriend, so every time I hear this song it brings to my mind the beauty of Lisboa and Porto and envelops me with that sense of "saudade" that is the focal point around which all the music moves. This is the strength that a song can have. This masterpiece, for me, is not just a "Eurovision entry", but has become the soundtrack to a moment very dear to me.

I would like to thank Portugal that in the last few years has given us true pearls that I have loved very much and have always placed very high in my personal ranking. Your recent contribution to the contest is a sign of the great quality and sensitivity of your beautiful music scene.

Beautiful comment. I agree with you, Krishoes. "Saudade Saudade" is the song that, better than others (also of "Brividi"), manages to give the listener a whirlwind of memories and emotions. This Song is like one of those horses that many do not consider winning but that has all the potential to finish first.

I feel joyous for the (mostly) positive reaction this song receives. If I can add more positivity to this thread, here is my take on this beautiful piece.

"Saudade, Saudade" feels like the warm breeze that seeps through the surface of your skin. The warmth lingers with you, as you wander through acres of blooming forget-me-nots, reminiscing about the significant other you lost as you gaze towards the bright, sunny sky up above.

While regarded as a simple, minimalistic piece, the song is a tune full of life, light, and feeling. The song is something that you can take out of its association with Eurovision, and still cherish for its sincerity and simplicity.

Nothing else that I can say, :12: says it in a better way.

Ok, I've never posted here before, but this time I feel I finally have to. When I listen to Saudade, Saudade (and I listen to It a lot) sometimes I smile and feel like crying at the same time. Mind you, I don't remember if I EVER felt like crying because of a song. This is something special. I would gladly give 12 points, but unfortunaly did it a while ago.

I didn't have time to come and comment on the result of the Final, So.

But what a great victory for Maro
I was almost sure that she would win the jury, but I was very afraid of televoting... Áurea was the biggest flop in the history of the Fdc for me, while Diana Castro was a huge surprise (has been highly praised post fdc). Syro comes to prove what I thought, the Portuguese jury kills any generic pop music. Very happy to see Quatro e Meia in second, they were amazing (I hope you come back one day). Also a little surprised to see Degráde good on the jury and bad on televoting.

was one of the best Fdc ever... and the best song won, what a pearl !!!! xheart

the first time I heard Saudade, I was quite surprised (I didn't know Maro), but only in my top 5 (Aurea was the first favorite ) . The next day, I listened to the songs again, and I totally fell in love with Saudade ( never thought i could win) . Maro, Blacci e Quatro e Meia quickly were the 3 songs that stood out to me, but Saudade it was special, it was sad but happy at the same time, and with the versions that were released, I realized it would be my absolute favorite. I identified a lot with the lyrics, because I lost my grandfather a year ago, it was strong enough to make me smile at times and cry at others.
Refreshing and nostalgic at the same time, + Maro's voice = pure magic and an atmosphere around the unique music

So proud to be portuguese xheart another right choice, and possibly my favorite portuguese entry of the decade xbow

Thank you Maro !!!!

We all know that I love the song but ... it`s not only that. I just realized that I am also living for the "lesbian pottery circle"-vibes that the live performance just oozes. xheat

(Don`t take me too serious I`m on meds because of COVID lmao)

This song gives me France 1991 vibes. Or should I say: Saudade reminds me of Sade. I have nothing bad to say about the performance or the instrumentation. It's just slightly to the boring side.

Even though I dont understand a thing about all the positive reactions in this forum I am happy for Portugal. Before reading the reactions in this forum (and elsewhere) I was sure this was a certain bottom 3 in this semi. I cant stand the song myself. But (at least) a decent result for Portugal is always a good thing for me. I have a very weak spot for Portugal.
My all time favourite from Portugal dates back to 1969: Desfolhada Portuguesa.

Me too - I am in love with this song; it's magical - beautiful, melancholic, soothing all at the same time (Saudade) - a real eurovision gem. xheart (I've just logged in after months and the first thing I did was to give 12 points to it, I'm totally enchanted.) The language transition also works so so well. Long story short: Love this to bits and will vote heavily for it, bravo, Portugal!

It's a truly wonderful, but I never want to hear anything saudade-related from Portugal again after this year.

Much like Iceland, this too is just so soothing and has this ethereal quality to it, I really like it! My fear is that both could go under the radar for being to subtle, hope that doesn't happen. :8:
