I hope you're right, I would be very happy :giggle:

It is a beautiful song indeed. I wouldn't mind. Just worried it may get lost in the mix.

But i do think it'll be the chosen one ;)

Edit: I also love Cegueira and i thought it'd receive more love. Wonderful song and wonderful voice.
My favoritism towards Rebellion has more to do with my past connection with Blasted than with the song per se. I like it, but it has some faults. We'll see how it all pans out.

The thing you pointed out about the chorus I don't agree, because the song was made to be sung at a big arena and the chorus is made so the public will sing with them, in the studio version the chorus doesn't work that well because there is no public with them.
Also I don't agree that it is a bad song because it would not work in another genre, most songs can't be covered in another genres, a jazzy cover of "Hatrid Mun Sigra" would not work nor "Love is Forever" as a metal song. "Rebellion" has a particular message and this genre is the best way to people to understand it.
About the chorus: fair enough, but it's not much of an argument if you ask me. It's fine if there's some sort of effect if everyone is screaming Rebellion in unison, but that doesn't really make the song any better.

About the comparison to HMS and L=F: Most pop songs can be transposed to different styles easily. People do it all the time. You name one for which it is indeed hard, namely HMS. Transposing to jazz is inoperable as an argument, because jazz has very different fundamentals in the way chords are used. Transposing to jazz takes a lot of time and changes the song considerably. But I agree that HMS wouldn't really work as a ballad for instance, you would need to change a lot to make the vocal melody of the verse fit well because it's borderline atonal. Chorus can be done though, has been done (check Youtube), will always be a great chorus. Love is Forever transposed into anything even slightly serious would just sound sarcastic (especially metal if you do the dropped bass), but the melody will still stick out as an irritatingly catchy tune.

Rebellion transposed into any sparse style would still have a decent verse, but a *really* ineffective chorus that has next to nothing to do with the verse that came before. So yeah, I disagree with your defense here.

Do appreciate the insights though. It is true that it's a bit unfair to use the same yardstick for rock as for other styles, but I have to make my point in some way.

Great analysis and I must say that altough I still think that the chorus was built to sing it live, the first time I heard i also tought it was weak.
From some interviews that I read, they are aware of the feedback that "Rebellion" has been getting and since many people complained about the chorus I hope they can make it work in the live performance next saturday

Yeah I hope so too, the verse is melodically fine and there’s certainly potential if they work on some things. I have nothing against them.

My personal favorites from semi 1 are teh songs Rebellion, Agora and Passe-Partout, From semi 2 Cegueira.
The festival is exciting as always, and I hope that one of the three will win. Because this year so far, ESC is quite underwhelming, even though I have three songs I really adore .- and probably the fourth with Georgia.

And "Agora" too maybe?

My guilty pleasure this year too xpray ... But that semi is super strong...

"Cegueira" is my favourite, "Rebellion" is my personal 2nd, I would be ok with "Medo de Sentir" too... Not the same about "Passe-Partout". I'm not really worried about what we are going to send - I just know we have to do things right this time.

I know it's still early to talk about that, but I would be really happy if we qualify. I'm confident, none of the mentioned above songs are safe qualifiers but the SF draw couldn't be better.

My pre-show faves are Gerbera Amarela do Sul for semi 1 and Nao Voltes Mais for semi 2. Have listened to them quite a lot. Both are just very soothing. Not convinced they are Portugals best options, they should probably just go for Passe-Partout.

The semi 1 rehearsal have started and @festivaldacanção has been sharing snipets of the live performance their instastories:

It's not the dress rehearsal, so they're not wearing what we will see in saturday, but the staging and graphics in the leds screens will be the same .
At the momment they only have shared the snippets of Meera, Filipe Sambado and Ian Mucznik.
Really curious to see how Blasted and Elisa will stage their songs.

Honestly the POWER semi 1 has. All eight would be top tier entries for me in the contest, controversially I think Blasted are my LEAST favourite in this lineup which just says it all.

Also I've had crazy ideas about Barbara getting a second win for Portugal at Eurovision, perhaps I need to be stopped

You can find the clips in the instastories, you need to pass a lot of photos of tickets to the festival da canção final, but they're there.

I think it's meant to be a funeral...

In a interview Sambado said that he will be making a funeral for the country, the song talks about climate change and corruption in Portugal and it makes sense that he will be mourning it in live TV. It will be weird but it will be memorable and a smart move tbh, the older people that watch the show will probably vote for him.

The death of our country, apparently. It's a political song. I only heard a few seconds so far, can't really comment much on it yet.
i know it was something that happened after the song was released, but it is somehow related to what happened to him this past week? that concert cancelation
