Re: PORTUGAL 2017

What's the problem here? I can't believe Viva la vida won this poll with such a lead. Tell me it's not reliable xD

Do Portuguese people really think this is a good choice for Eurovision?

https://festivaiscancao.wordpress.c...-diva-vencem-a-nossa-poll-com-4061-dos-votos/

That's not a very reliable site and it is particularly old fashioned, I believe. Still, many of us think it is a good eurovision entry. We find it epic and powerful and god knows what else, sadly. We have horrendous taste. Can someone please help? We do value foreign opinions as a matter of fact and it's not too late. Just. xsos

Viva la diva wouldn't be the worst choice and it would make an impression in the semi final, but first half of the SF is not a good draw for this. If it gets through and into the final, a late draw ( far from Croatia) could improve its chances.

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

Predicting the result:
Jury - 12 Salvador, 10 Celina, 8 Viva la Diva
Televote - 12 Salvador, 10 Pedro, 8 Fernando

To be honest I'm not rooting for anyone. The only song I like is Nova Glória but I admit that it wouldn't do well in ESC. I don't think Pedro would either. As for Salvador, the first time I heard his song I thought that if he went to ESC, Portugal would get a placement similar to 2011 with Homens da Luta. But seeing that so many people like his song, I'm starting to get genuinely curious about how he would do in Kiev.

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

I don't know if I can watch the national final tonight. I've never had a stronger yearning before with any selection ever. If Salvador doesn't win with "Amar pelos dois" it's going to break my heart. The song would be up there with my favourite entries ever sent to the contest, "Suus", "Maybe" and "Toi". I'm so passionately in love with all of it, the composition, Salvador, his voice, his mannerisms, the way he feels the music through his body. It makes the hairs on my neck stand up and my heart flutters. It's rare to find a male vocalist with this kind of sensibility. In the jazz world only Chet Baker springs to mind and then I struggle. All I want right now is for Portugal to gift our contest with the most beautiful and sincere song imaginable. It's just strange to think how close we are to getting a jazz torch song like this at Eurovision. I never thought the day would come but it could happen tonight. If it doesn't happen, I might just have to flee this topic for a while as I won't be thinking straight. There are a couple of other songs in this final I really enjoy but there's absolutely no comparison. My heart wants only one thing. Please vote for Salvador Portugalxheart Don't miss this chance to touch a lot of people, and share a very special soul with Europe.

Salvador Sobral IS AMAZING

I just listened to the finalist and if Portugal doesn't send this one, I will be eternally upset with this country. Please, please, please don't mess this up! That was a mesmerizing performance and it really moved me despite the fact I don't speak the language. This could easily become one of my favorite Portuguese entries to date.

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

I haven't been following Portugal this year, but after seeing the comments here I checked out some of the entries and please, Portugal, PLEASE send Salvador. He's in a class all of his own compared to everything else here.

Usually I don't even like this kind of music, but this is such an incredibly strong composition and performance that he elevates it into something magical.

I don't know how highly this'd rank in my overall list, as it's a genre I struggle with and would probably depend on my mood at the time, but this is miles ahead of the competition.

Well after listening to the songs I have to say that I'm team Salvador myself. It has its certain charm that many songs lack, and it stands out because of this.

Didn't expect to like Salvador, but his song has a "timeless" quality about it. Old school Disney with jazzy elements. It's a relaxing, interesting song that would likely do rather well for Portugual in May. I'd be completely fine with this, although he needs to lessen the hand and body movements. They may be amusing, but will likely put off Joe televoter.

Salvador easily stands out, it's a very nice song.

Actually, I think this song has a potential to do very well in Kiev as well.

I like Portuguese selection.

Is this referring to Omar Naber? The thing is, you guys in Slovenia actually had some really good songs in your selection (Fse, Zazarim, Heart of Gold, Flower in the Snow etc.) but this is Portugal. Salvador is as close to 'good' as one can get.
Lisa Garden was better tho

For me the problem with for example Omar Naber, Claudia Faniello, Tako and Jacques Houdek is that we've heart that type of cheesy 90'ies ballads all before in the contest, I can name a few from every year since the 90'ies actually happened. Sure, Salavdor Sobral's song sounds way older than that but there's something mesmerizing about that, because we havn't heard that in the contest for decades so it feels relatively fresh in this contest. It's like he makes the time between the song's era and today non-existable, like it hasn't been a day since Eurovision was in black and white television and with all those jazz ballads. The other songs is just constant reminders of what the (bad) standard was not many years ago, and for me it just gets more annoying every year.

Not that great at translating the words in my head into english but I hope you understand

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

I would say that it's 80% certain that Salvador will win. He will probably win the jury, and finish 2nd with the televoting (at minimum 3rd, but I'm pretty sure he'll be in the top two).
Pedro Gonçalves is probably winning the televoting, but the juries are probably gonna rate him in the 2nd half of the voting, making Salvador win.

One very unfair thing is that some acts are making little changes to their performances tonight, but the juries voted on friday based on the semi-final performances, it wasn't even based on the final dress rehearsal.
Also, a scandal broke out during the week, when Júlio Isidro, the president of the jury for the semi-finals, said that he automatically put all English language songs in last place of the ranking just because they were in English.

Then why bother allowing the composers to write songs in English? It doesn't make any sense to me...

Anyway, I'm happy that RTP decided to add a new co-host in the Final: Filomena Cautela will host the green room and the red carpet event! She's the best xyaaay

I know right? Hopefully the jury in the finals won't have that train of thought. If the rules allow for songs in English and you are a jury member, you gotta rate all the Portuguese and English songs from the same common ground! Hopefully, after he admitted this, RTP will not hire him as a juror anymore for our NFs. But it's RTP, so who knows.
