Oh please, 13th is a good placing. The most important thing to consider is qualifying to the final and Portugal achieved it also achieving following year of 2009. Also there were couple songs that could win; Armenia, Ukraine, Greece etc.

Don't forget Vania achieved 2nd in the semi final results and she would be very much welcome of attempting again especially with what Bulgaria doing Poli Genova failed for the first time and she is 1 of the top singers predicted to qualify this year and Bulgaria has the same situation with Portugal in terms of qualifying etc.

Also if you look into the 2015 contest, Suzy did not have that good quality to achieve qualification. If RTP finally made Nelly to take part then I could see a Top 5 for Portugal if it has the right song with it. If Catarina Pereira takes part in the NF for 2017 with something better than Cantor Por Mim it may be likely that she could qualify to the Grand Final.

What I really like in these forums is people talking and giving opinion about thinks that doesn´t matter at all....Vania didn´t win because was Portugal without diaspora working for it and because of his geographic location....the song was the favorite for the journalists group of ESC but finished in 13º, the same happen in 1996 with Lucia Moniz and "O meu Coração não tem cor"...her song was the favorite for the journalists and everybody was thinking that she will be the winner....finish in 6th place....unfortunally Portugal just have one neighbor and unfortunately this neighbor is not very good foe us in ESC....what can Portugal expect from ESC in this situation even with a strong song? nothing....and please don't start talking about the portuguese language....Servia won with Molistva singing in Serbian....language is not a problem, the problem is the model of voting, our location and a very poor portuguese diaspora around the world!

So that's why The Netherlands came 2nd and Austria 1st in 2014 right?
Right song - good voice - nice staging - right clothes and you're set to go, whatever country you are ;)

sorry but....not right:
1. you can´t compare The Netherland and Austria in geographic location and in number of neighbors with Portugal,
2. The Netherland song was a common balad.....rythm wihout changes from the beginning to the end....
3. Austria....well ....we all know why Autria won, we all know that was not because of the song....the song for me is a crap!!

^Netherlands has 2 neighbors in the contest - Belgium and Germany. Austria didn't qualify both in 2012 and 2013. Having neighbors doesn't mean that they will vote for you. Look at Bulgaria. We have 4 neighbors in the contest but we haven't been in the final since 2007. That's 9 years. Nine.

I think that you are focusing too much on the fact that you don't have neighbors compared to the fact that you don't send good songs, good singers or have good stagings.

Sorry but I did´t said that....what I´ve tried to say is that much more important than the song is the diaspora voting....diaspora can be made by country, culture, religion, sexual orientation or other......with diaspora Portugal don´t have any change comparing the remaining countries by groups: EX URSS, Balcans, North Europe etc.etc...

diaspora vote doesn't count so much in my opinion. Also the "block-voting" is a myth.

Just deal with the fact that Portugal isn't able to play the game of ESC. It really is something that is not for them. It never was.

Portugal will again participate in 2017 which is great! It is a long time member and ESC wouldn't be the same without them.

Yes...your words are completely right: this is game and not a contest, and Portugal in fact can´t play this game ( not the contest) against the block groups voters....!

No, it's not because of any block groups voters, really. It's about a whole investment that Portugal is never able to do: a strong national selection, a modern and appealing entry, a memorable staging, promotion... Many things that need a lot of money and that certainly I can't imagine Portugal spending.

Very true. :pt: sending beautiful, authentic songs repeatedly in the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's, and very rarely getting rewarded for it, only proves that. They have paid dearly for not playing the ESC "game" and whoring themselves out for high scores with mainstream pop songs.

However, it appears that RTP is committed to improving :pt:'s record and I'm hopeful to see what they can bring to the table.

I don't think so. Portugal is in no worse shape than half of the eastern countries which partecipate and succeed at ESC.

Excuse me but Portugal sent Filipa Azevedo with a boring ballad when they had "Canta por mim" in their NF. That says it all.

Portugal can spend much more money in this that Greece do, but if fact RTP down´s t want...and if that is the case why are we in this game? does´t make any sense....This is one of the reasons in my view we need to withdraw ESC..

I really don´t want to see nothing in the table...for me it´s enough!!
