Re: PORTUGAL 2014

Short genre descriptions of the 10 competing entries :)

1. Catarina Pereira: power ethno-pop à la "Canta por mim", but improved
2. Ivo Lucas: pop ballad à la Simon & Garfunkel
3. Zana: ethnic-folk with balkan influences
4. Carla Ribeiro: pop-rock, much like one that can be heard on modern rádios
5. Ricardo Afonso: rock
6. Rui Andrade: a modern Disney-like ballad
7. Lara Afonso: pop entry with 1960's influences
8. Raquel Guerra: (a mid-tempo ballad?)
9. Madalena Trabuco: a sweet and touching ballad
10. Suzy: latin dance entry with african/kuduro sounds

I was reading these descriptions on ESC Portugal. I can't believe Rui is making a mistake like that. A Disney-like ballad!? Game over! Maybe next time. Ballads don't do well with televoters here (except when they are fado-influenced) and this year they will flop horribly since there is no jury voting for them. These people never learn.

Looking forward to songs 1, 4, 5 and 10. It's between Catarina and Suzy, but I think Carla is also a contender. This, of course, based on the descriptions only.

Lots of modern stuff according to them! Damn my suspicious mind :?

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

Personally I would love to have a good folk song representing :pt:. :p Let's hope that the mentioned one is as good as they say.

Latino/dance style is not my cup of tea... :?

According to him, his song was up and ready for 2013. It didn't happen, so it's been patiently waiting for the 2014 opportunity ;)
Ballads are his style anyway.

They seemed very excited with zana's song though. Only time they used contender for victory words...

This is the prodigious mind behind song number 10

He also made Portugal's entry in 2007!

LOL! Those were definitely Emanuel's bad years.

In his defense, I say his new sound is modern and appealing. Now it's more like this:

Imagine if Suzy's song is somehow similar... Fire!

Although a short description of the songs is not much to judge after; I still things are looking good for Portugal this year! I am eager to hear the songs!
Song number 10 might be right up my alley!!!

What, do you just assume I'm a Catarina blind fan for saying that? You should know me better then ;)

I think you took this way too personal, Daniel. And you assumed what I think about your taste. Take it easy, because all you should think I meant was 'would you be surprised if Catarina's song was overhyped?' ;)

Oh ok, I'm taking things too personal today actually, sorry
ESCPortugal didn't seem to hype Catarina a lot though, maybe they were disappointed by it
They said it sounds different from "Canta por mim" but the sounds of Babic/Coelho are still found throughout the song.

It's ok Daniel. :D Personally I think it will be disappointing no matter what . I know it doesn't fit your taste, but even if it did, liking something is not a way to label people. We're all entitled to our own taste, I never tease anyone for his/her own taste. xrunhug

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

Second day of rehearsals, ESCPortugal reports:

01 | "Mea Culpa" | Catarina Pereira

Catarina used again a wind machine in the second of today's two rehearsals. She sang very well. "Mea Culpa" is a more adult song than "Canta por mim", but the energy is still present. One of the songs that can surprise next Saturday! (What, it was already as pre-favourite )
Catarina dances energically through the whole performance, and the instrumental, in the middle of the song, reminds them of "Canta por mim".

Oh actually I liked "Canta por mim", but I'd never be a blind fan of anything. Sorry again xrunhug

02 | "Eu Vou" | Ivo Lucas

Ivo Lucas' song is a surprise! A very fun and commercial song that will make people sing along. The song is catchy and would easily be a success in a Portuguese radio.
It's not a song that would easily stand out ont he Eurovision, but could be a surprise in the results.

I'm getting Malta 2013 vibes from these descriptions.
