Re: PORTUGAL 2014

Thats not always good - while it allows foreign fans to pay closer attention to the process and have a say, Internet trolls have been known in the past, to hack the votes and vote thousands of times for the worse entries. Usually resulting in a terrible song selection and many good ones lost at the online vote.

That's true. I also do not trust internet voting. Opening the possibility of voting through internet and the rest of Europe is something very risky, not only because Portuguese immigrants are more keen of a particular artist and this can jeopardize the choice of a good song, but also because of the risks of flood voting.
I'm not happy with this decision. NONOIOTAP

That is not a great idea, i remember when tve chose the same method to vote and the result was Rodolfo Chikikikuatre trowing to trust songs like "La Revolucion Sexual" or "Thinking" and the next year another freak, "el Cobra". Anyway i want to help you voting for another song cause in my city, i can vote in Portugal from my portuguese mobil number and obiously i will vote to sapin from "Portugal" in May :p

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

Portugal is in the right semi-final this time, even if it is the toughest one. Well, not the toughest judging by the material so far. xqueenbitch We didn't have France + Spain voting in our semi-final since 2010. Plus, I love the draw and I couldn't have asked for a better one.

The best part: we are sending an uptempo pop song this year!

How do you know? More to the point: why should a Portuguese uptempo pop song be considered best? xshrug

Well, I think is time!

Danca conmigo, Senhora do Mar, Todas as Ruas do Amor, Ha dias assim, Luta é Alegría and Vida Minha were too slow IMO.

Dança Comigo was supposed to be an uptempo dance song :D

And in 2005 and 2006 we had a two proper pieces of Portuguese uptempo pop

I also think Portugal have better possibilities of doing well with an up-tempo song. I loved Senhora do Mar. And also Vida Minha. I really liked Ha Dias Assim. But none of these songs had a very modern sound.
Therefore I would love an up tempo MODERN portugese song. I wouldnt even mind a bit of Brasilian beat to it either... lol...

I'd rather put it like this: I'd love a GOOD uptempo modern Portuguese song.

That's probably harder to find than a piece of Spanish Flamenco over the Norwegian Fjords though, I'm afraid. Still, it could theoretically be done and I'm not totally through with hope yet. I just don't want people to lightly overlook other possibilities beforehand xshrug

I'd skip the brazillian beat... I think? :? Would have to see it first :p

A lot of the less successful countries seem to have high hopes this year so fingers crossed Portugal can join them in the rankings :)

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

Tell that to RTP. Seriously that is what every Portuguese person thinks.

I don't think most Portuguese persons even think about it. Many aren't aware Portugal didn't participate last year or if it still participates at all.
I kept telling everyone I knew and some I occasionally met about it. People politely asked one or two questions.
By the time I had told everybody, the first one had already forgotten and had to be told again :|

Also, I don't know if you've noticed but lately in every interview or ESC/FdC related article there often seems to appear someone informing someone else that there are actually an ESC fanbase and Internet sites created for the subject.
This is respectfully stated in wonder and near-disbelief, in the tone people use when they wish to convey the idea that everything's possible in this world, like if they're talking about exotic and unheard of animals living in your neighbourhood :D

It's going to be between Catarina Pereira (Babić) and Suzy (Emanuel) - both are performing pop songs. It's a wild guess, of course. The Portuguese televoters won't pick any ballad, believe me. Plus, this year's theme for the national final is Joy, so there won't be many ballads anyway.

What I'm saying is that an uptempo (or a joyful midtempo) song is the best choice at this time. The other nations will more than likely vote for a cheerful song and we all know it!

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I know and you're right of course. I'm hoping for a very good version of Canta Por Mim, in which case I'll be more than happy to have Catarina representing us. On the other hand I'm frightened of Emanuel, for I don't believe anything good can come from that direction. Nothing ever did.

Thing is, we're becoming a bit obsessed with the uptempo business, like it's some kind of messiah to save us from harm, in a time when uptempo pop entries aren't doing that well in the contest anymore. Plus, it's hardly our expertize field, chances of failure will be greater if it's not really good.
I just want us to be sure to pick the best song possible, irrespective of the genre it belongs to, that's all xshrug

Not really. Of course in the daily lives nobody thinks about this but us fans, but almost all the reactions on the Eurovision nights and the FdC nights are that the (Portuguese) songs are all old-fashioned, that RTP should try something new, that we are not on par witht he rest of Europe, et cetera.
That's what everybody in my family says about the Portuguese songs in the nights of the shows for example.
