If I had to name one :cz: possibly representing :pl:, it would definitely be Ewa Farna. But this... It would be so funny if he actually made it! :D I kinda wish he doesn't though, not immediately the year after he'd been competing for :cz:.

Apparently Ewa's mother went to the same class as Albert's mother in Czech Republic. I think Albert speaks some Polish, even though he's ethnic Czech unlike Ewa.

He speaks Polish very well, during TVN's Sopot Top Of The Top Festival 2019 his band was in the group of contestants (which was full of ESC stars, btw) and he talked to the public in Polish.

Does this means that we will get finalists judged by covers performed, and then in the final there would be 3 random "ESC" songs? xfaint
Or they will record ESC songs after all three finalists are known?

The finalists have been chosen and now they have time to decided about songs. If some of them has their own song, it can be used as well but the final word belongs to producers and TVP, because TVP has an agreement with Universal Music. So, some songs were made already, but if someone has a really good one - they may let them to sing it.

For example: as I read before, Saszan's song is created by the same people who made Viki Gabor's "Superhero", so we can assume its catchy, at least. But we don't know if Saszan won the semi.

It's a little bit messy, but I felt the same before JESC national final and one thing led to another and result was great. I don't mind if we send a totally new a fresh act, because the most important thing is a song. I hope, they created good ones.

So it's a pre-record? And still, finalists were chosen based on cover performances despite someone who didn't quality could bring some ESC song worse going? xcookie

Yes, semi-finals are pre-recorded. A final will be broadcasted live which means the finalists have about one month to select songs for themselves. In my understanding after reading the rules and posts from Polish Internet (some people even talked directly to director of "Szansa na sukces" to get more details) - in the first place, producers assign particular song to the particular participant but this is not a must, because if the finalist has got an own good song, it is a chance that it will be included instead of those already done songs from Universal Music.

The final episode will be the only one where not only juries can vote, but tv-viewers as well. And TVP have a special spot for 4th contestant (not nessesary from semis) but they don't have to use it.

@A-lister

Would you be satisfied with Kayah as choice for Poland? :)

Depends on the song, she's very hit-or-miss as an artist but she has a couple of good ones, but her best stuff was made with Bregovic and practically most of those songs are Polish covers.

I didn't know that Alicja Szemplińska was in it! She truly was a worthy winner of the Voice edition :-) So I am going to root for her too.

Big problem for Alicja is strong semi-final (no. 2) with many good artist.
In my opinion good option for Poland is Stashka because she winner (as representative Poland) Baltic Song Contest 2014 in Karlshamn, Sweden:
Her loser rival in this contest is Anabel Conde (ESC 1995, Spain) with Andorra song from 2006:
My number 1 at this moment in Polish selectoon Julia & Wiktoria Szlachta (Szlachta Sisters) is good in theme first semi-final because sing ABBA songs in TVP summer events:
In New Year Eve girls welcomed 2020 with song "Happy New Year" :

@Mrm Why the "angry"emoji?

I know it's not the best concept and it kinda sucks that only 1 act gets through based on cover versions (and not their potential entries) but the concept did work for Poland in JESC very well and it's something different to what other countries present. I will not judge until I hear the final entry.
Good luck, Poland!

It's not the best concept, for sure. But after not qualifying for two consecutive years, I think that it's ok to try something new. Also, it's a super big national final (for Poland standards): 3 SHOWS dedicated to find the right entrant/entry, 21 participants. That's really huge and I love the dedication, the effort put into it. Poland tries to step up its game and unlike Germany or the Czech Republic, they try to draw attention to Eurovision/their entry and create popularity etc. (I am still ashamed of the fact that Germany plans to broadcast a pre-recorded show on a channel no one cares about at 9:30 pm! weekdays!).

Also, I think that there are some incredible and talented acts competing. I thought that only newcomers would apply but there are many well-established, popular or former Voice winners and contestants taking part.... + I was told that Lanberry got asked to come up with potential entires and she's responsible for both JESC victories.

See Szansa na sukces more like a casting format/show whose final show results into the national final.
I really think it's just there to make the Eurovision entry more popular, draw attention to it and create easy money/an entertaining show.

Apparently, the three winners of the three casting rounds are already known and they are working on suitable and convincing Eurovision entries. Thus, what's the point?.. from the broadcaster's point of view probably just fun, entertainment and attention.

I do not dislike it... I just think it's stupid to eliminate artists based on covers. Germany did the same back in 2017 and look how it ended :D
